I worked in a industrial bakery, in Stockholm, in the 80s. And that was also my wartime placement.
My dad worked in the local clinic. His wartime placement was one story down in the wartime clinic. The clinic hade a absolutly gigantic bombshelter that was almost as large as the clinic under the floor
@@matsv201 My local clinic used their shelter for a rehab gym. Insanely solid walls, armored doors and hatches for the windows.
If you ever had major surgery in Swedish a hospital, chances are it was done under ground, since moving the operation rooms would just have been to mush work. You also minimize the risk of loosing the gear in the first strike.
With the hindsight of Syria and Ukraine we can say that it was good call.
@@ImmersedInHistory now when I think about it. The shelter was probobly larger than the bottom floor because it was under the lawn as well.
My guess is that the clinic that is in a tiny town would be used as a front line clinit and totaly overseen because the town is so small.
The intresting part is thst swedeb clearly planed for clinics to be bombed

They are doing amazing work right now.
What we would have been had we continued.
Also stores of things like food, fuel, lube oil, grains but most importantly, coffee! Nothing gets done in Sweden without coffee, the government know this very well.

Great take my guy, I'm also a firm believer of don't go round being violent but be prepared for when violence finds you and its something a little dismissed by a majority of the population
The pamphlet “if the war comes” is actually being printed and sent out again since a few years back in an updated version.
A big thing with the Total Defence Doctrine was the Dualship Between the Civil Defence and the Military Defence.
Hand in Hand together for a better and Brighter Future was the slogan often said by the leaderships.
So for the most the civilian populace both felt as they were in control and that they also contributed to the protection of the society, Even if you refused to carry any arms you still had an important role to play as a defender.
There was not much Nihilism or fear of war in the civilian populace infact id say Sweden was as usual one of the happiest countries in the world even during the Cold War.
Good education and a Military which felt like they were your neighbour and not a Parade Force helps alot.
We can also see it now, The reports in international media of Sweden beeing in a fear of war couldnt be more Wrong.
Sure the politicans clearly spell out the danger and so does our military Command.
but that is normal here and infact id say we are instead going back towards our normal way of thinking instead of 20-25 years of drunken Idealism.
If you look at how the Conscript volunteering has boomed since Ukraine was invaded where instead of beeing happy you were not drafted young lads and ladies areinfuriated or devastated to not be picked.
The home Guard has had an increas in signage by over 250% since 2021.
And whats even more important we see a huge increase ofRefugees and Migrants who has become Swedish Citizens or wish to become,.
infact that group was also very happy with how the Government clearly stated the danger of the situation and what they expect of the Citizens.
It might very well be so that the best way to get groups into the regular society is through a reintroduction of the Total Defence as a way to truly become a Swedish Citizen both in paper and in soul for those who had a hard time before.
And if so id say thats worth every penny so to speak.

The shelters are being renovated now and new once are built in Sweden.

I was shown one of those caves in the lat 90s. The stuff was still there. Just a small forest road by some imitation rocks. The rocks open with a 4 lane wide 4 meter high door just cm from the door. Behind them there was more.
The dude put on the light and there was trucks behind them as far as you could see. The cave also widened.
I asked if they wasnt supose to be secreat. Was told they would all be gone by the year after.
And the truck was all loaded and some had trailer.
