The History of Development of Halo 1 and the evolution of the team and ideas that eventually transformed the FPS genre and the course of the Xbox forever. Part of a mini series on Halo.
One of the most interesting things about CE’s development and the final product is just how obvious it is that Bungie never intended it to be an ongoing series. The first game was relatively self contained, the Covenant were just 1 dimensional bad guys, and some of the lore/events would be retconned in later titles (we literally see Johnson die. He gets swarmed by Infection Forms and after the flashback is done you see pools of blood where he and the rest of the marines were standing. The Covenant also KNEW FOR A FACT the Rings were weapons, and prior to the Flood reveal the main objective was to take over the Ring so the Covenant can’t use it against humanity. Both of these would be changed in First Strike/2). It’s also interesting how early on Bungie wanted Halo to be set in Marathon and both share a lot of the same lore/concepts. It’s definitely an interesting what if scenario thinking about what the game would’ve been like if Bungie was instead bought out by Apple and made their original vision for the game.
Enjoying the video! At 3:47 - the bug wasn't just on Asian versions but all versions. It was anyone who installed to their root directory C: instead of the suggested location, then uninstalled, wiped their drive. I was PR Director at the time.
And yet after all Halo did for Xbox. The way Microsoft is casting it to the side like it's garbage now is dreadful. I will not be buying the next Xbox.
