- Drifting is sick, but what if you wanna rip some skids in a car that’s NOT a 240SX or E36? This is a list of 9 very uncommon (yet super capable) drift cars that you won't have to pay the drift tax on. These cars are undercover burners-of-rubber, and this is the ding dang D-list.

LOL That's kind of what went through my head too when you showed the Outback Legacy. Those suckers are impossible to slide (they tend to start sliding then quickly grab traction). That being said, this video may actually address a problem I have been having (that I recently learned, my AWD doesn't always seem to engage).
I also agree, I love that car. I love mine, still had it for over 10 years, and hope at least 10 more
FWD + McDonalds trays stuck under the rear wheels needs mentioning lol
Hahahahah My MAN!! My buddies and I used to do that in my first car I had. Was a total pile, 87 Nissan Sentra. Never had so much fun in my life before "drifting" -I use the term VERY loosely- in parking lots with the McDonalds or Wendy's trays under the back wheels, e brake cranked to the max..

Pvc rings over the rear tires is a ton of fun too and you get more control over the car.
Tsuiso Sim Drifting I was about to say something similar. The trays get shredded in like 2 minutes tops. Some kid my friends knew used too do crazy ass shit with trays. Spinning around Ike a mad man. I love how weird old Donut was. This video was great.
You can actually drift the Outback while keeping the 4wd! Welding the rear diff instead of the center diff still gives you a "driftable" lower-grip rear-end while still being 4wd (meaning you can drift at higher speeds with more control). It's something different but it's tons of tun.
U think it’s the same on a 2001 forester?
Any Subaru, honestly. Be warned, it does essentially turn the car into a track toy. Welded differentials aren't drivable in normal conditions, and it will put more wear on the center viscous coupling. @@samuelmendez4972

@@KHRacing 240 sx probably
Except the 944 is not cheap...the most expensive 944 you will buy is the cheapest one you buy.
Not kidding. The parts aren't cheap, the maintenance requires a lot of disassembly, meaning a lot of stuff that can break on a 30yo car, and require a lot more work per mile. Especially the variocam DOHC versions.
I love mine but they are not what people think they are going into them. Which just makes my first statement become even more true, as the cheap ones are the uncared for masses of porsches that people bought because they thought they were cheap.
@@asymsolutions project cars are never cheap. Cheap project cars are cheap to buy and then expensive to get out of your garage
Happy to see my Merc on this list, I've only got a 4 cylinder one but it was great fun on the beach in the summer! Definitely get a manual if you get one, it's a decent box!
I've 2 w203's and they both have the V6. I plan on manual swapping one and basically making it a race car😂imo it's one of the most underrated cars you can get for less than an arm and a leg
C230 is a fun car to drive. Very comfortable too. I drove the automatic version for 5 years. 1 thing I didn't like was that they have electrical issues pretty often.
The problem with drifting the C230 is that it has an electronic e-brake. Boooo. Plus, just finding a manual Mercedes is a chore. Manheim tonight lists thousands of them for sale at auction, but only 2 are sticks.
The problem with drifting the Infiniti J30 is that motor can't handle sliding... the oiling fails which blows the motor. Same holds true for the Z32 (but not the Z31) 300ZX. Likewise, don't try to drift the MR2. Sadly, several of those cars can make and hold sick slides until after a few passes the motors all die from no oil. You'll also see that fate if you try to drift any Suburu other than the WRX (which is a pain because it is 4wd).
“No drift tax” - well not anymore

I’m so glad the J30 was on this list. The whole time I was watching, I was thinking to myself, “ man..I wish they threw the J30 on here, but I know it won’t be.” Then surprising me at #2.! I love it. I’ve owned 2 of them, one being my first car. I knew nothing about it. Just bought it from my neighbor. I loved getting it sideways, and was always surprised on how well it handled/corrected so smoothly through slides.
Couple of corrections, the MN12 cars with a V8 never had a stick, and they never had a 289 either. Some had 302s and later ones got the 4.6 mod motors. The only MN12s that had a stick were the Supercoupes with the supercharged V6.
What about turbo coupes? No standards?

POP UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS!
RIP
I’m not kidding, I literally went gravel road drifting in my 02 Outback (the 4-door sedan of course) and eventually ended up destroying a chain link fence about 12 hours before this was posted. Fortunately in my state, 1 in every 10 cars at the junkyard is an early 2000’s Subaru Outback, so I replaced all the parts today for basically $80.
As for drifting them, even the 4-speed autos can drift pretty well with the stock AWD setup (though life of the AWD system may or may not be reduced..) The 4-speed autos use hydraulic-actuated clutches to both ends to split power. It is a wierd sensation when they are in stock trim. If you yank the E-brake, the computer detects it and will momentarily disengage rear-wheel power as the wheels lock up, but the instant you release the brake, it diverts almost 100% of torque to the rear for a second or two, ripping the tires loose on the rear until they catch up to the front tire speed, while allowing the front to pull the car in whatever direction they are pointed. (The changing torque transfer can lead to severe, fence-busting overcorrection if you aren’t ready for it though)
The earlier 2000’s manual trans AWD is actually less effective at this because it has a viscous lsd that can’t disengage and therefore impedes awd drifting.
The more you know...

Fun fact about the Crossfire:
1.) I used to be a lot attendant/swap driver, and we sold a used one to a customer. When they handed me the key to go deliver the car, the Chrysler emblem had come off, and guess what was there? The ghost of a Mercedes symbol :-D dead serious
Remember Doug Demuro talking about the same thing with the Pagani key lol
Well, maybe that was a repair? Take a used M.B. hood, paint it, and slap a Chrysler emblem on it. Or are you joking/mistaken because of the kinda similar shape of MB and Chrysler emblems? One’s a pentagram with 5 lines, the other is a circle with 3 lines.

I love the way you gotta weld the diff to make half of these cars drift! some even need a manual stick shift conversion 😅
Just picked up an e39 a week ago :) one of my bucket list cars!
He’s like a “live rear axle isn’t good for sliding” (James earlier), lists hachiroku as one of the best drift cars.
Timothy Wenzler lists S10 right after that
I chuckled a bit too
and live rear axle isnt even that bad in drift

It's easier to slide a live axle than IRS, wtf is he on about?
