The Verdon Gorge is Seb Bouin's favourite place to climb, its where he has climbed many of his hardest routes and some of the hardest routes in France. 4 years ago his journey began trying to climb what he would go on to climb La Rage D'Adam, the cruxy overhanging route which he has now made the first ascent of and given a grade of 9b/+ , making it one of the hardest sport climbs in France. And after his recent history of climbing Move 9b/+, Patanics, 9a+/b and Mamichula 9b we reckon he might be onto one...

tous les ans il est de plus en plus monstrueux !!!! il ne s arrête jamais de progresser ça crève les yeux ;;)) maintenant il cavale dans le 9 b , on a l impression qu il est filmé a 90 degrés ; c'est un modeste , je suis sur que le 9 c n est pas du tout un problème

Seb seems to have the same combination of traits that led Adam Ondra to his greatest successes: hard work, systematic training methods, modesty, a relaxed personality when not climbing, and an authentic emotional connection to a particular, area, milieu, and route. After his success on 'Move', he might be the person to repeat the remaining 'Big 3' (Change, La Dura Dura, and Silence) and perhaps even push the boundaries further.
I don't think he'll try to do Change or Silence, he already said that flying back and forth to try Move was super tedious and it was more challenging because he was under time pressure. He did say he wanted to send Jumbo Love so I don't know. But in my opinion, he'll try to find a project in France

That is a beautiful route! Some of those moves and positions were insane! Especially thru the crux! Hard to imagine what kind of routes pro rock climbers will be bolting 10 years from now, but it will be amazing to watch.

I agree! I've only been there once, but that was back in 1982 when the French sport climbing association had just been started and they invited 2-3 climbers from each country to visit for two weeks. I got to represent Norway along with Finn Dæhli and we spent a very nice week in Verdon, climbing up to 7a. On a partial rest day I went for a run along the entire canyon bottom alongside the river, really spectacular!

Jesus... When Seb grabs the first normal hold after the sequence, he relaxes like it is 6a. And he is still in the 60deg terrain with many meters to go.

Hosannah is a multipitch route yeah, some say the hardest in France. 5 pitches, 160m : 8b/b+, 8b, 8b/b+, 8c, 7b+

@@kemrone The route name is partly called that because he's good friends with Ondra and also Ondra tried the crux for half an hour or so and couldn't figure out any sequence.

Adam Ondra avait fait une montée dedans et avait complètement buté sur la section du crux, sans parvenir à trouver de séquence envisageable. Vu l'animal j'imagine qu'il est pas resté très zen devant cette section et que ça a gueulé un peu...et voilà d'où vient le nom (avec évidemment le jeu de mot qui va bien =) )

Il y a plusieurs big wall sur el capitan, la plus difficile actuellement c'est le dawn wall, qui comporte des longueurs jusqu'à 9a

C'est un passage plus technique??
En gros c'est l'enchainement de gestes le plus difficile de la voie. Il y a plusieurs disciplines en escalade dont l'escalade de bloc et la voie. Le bloc consiste en un enchainement de gestes très techniques, en général sans corde (cf. Fontainebleau). Le ou les pas de bloc définissent en général la quotation d'une voie, si bien qu'elle peut avoir des sections plus simples, mais garder une quotation élevée du fait de ces derniers. C'est le cas de cette vidéo dont la première section est en 8c, mais se termine par un pas de bloc abominable.

@@smaghe Comme tu dis, en général c'est ça, mais c"est pas toujours vrai. Il peut y avoir des pas de blocs dans une voie (des mouvements difficiles à trouver et à exécuter), mais pour autant la difficulté va venir de l'endurance et de l'enchainement de plusieurs pas de blocs. Par exemple une voie de 30 m avec 3 pas de blocs en 7c pourrait être 8a, mais une voie de 70 m avec 1 seul pas bloc en 7c tout à la fin pourrait être 8a+ si il n'y a aucun repos avant le pas bloc.
Les pas de bloc demandent de la puissance, explosivité et de la force pure (serrer des petites prises avec les mains, allez chercher une prise très loin, etc), le reste c'est plus de la résistance (effort long) et de la technique (placements du corps, des pieds).
@@cedricnicolas2662 Dans le principe, c'est ça, mais au niveau des cotations, pas trop. Une voie avec trois 7C bloc empilés fera toujours bien plus que 8a.

US: no bolting! climb trad! Europe: BOLT EVERYTHING
Hard to trad climb on limestone... If you go to Chamonix (granite), there is plenty of trad routes! If you go to Smith Rocks, you will climb bolted lines. There are more areas in the US where the rock is suited to trad climbing, therefore there is a stronger trad climbing community.
La Ramirole, the crag where this line stands, couldn't be climbed except on free solo, if it wasn't for the bolts. Should it be that way? The climbing community has answered that question long ago, all over the world.
