Ethan Pringle battles one of Portugal's hardest sport climbs

- Ethan travels to Portugal, to the not-yet-popular, but world-class sport-crag "Meio Mango", to try one of the country's hardest lines- "Filipinos". First climbed by local Portuguese pro Andre Neres in 2019, Filipinos is one of the most stunning and high-quality routes of the grade in Europe, climbing a perfect, 20-meter panel of porcelain limestone, right above the crashing Atlantic. Ethan contends with the elements- storms, super-humid conditions and massive waves in a race against time, to try send Filipinos before his looming departure date.

Welcome to Portugal, and congratz on the send!!! I wish more elite climbers as yourself would come more often and show the world what we have to offer! Glad you had Tiago as your guide, he was the one that introduce me to climbing, when we were just teenagers!
P.S You mentioned the approach was hard...funny fact, those metal stairs we're only installed a couple years ago! Before then, if nobody left a rope uptop, we would have to solo it to return back up!
I know the ladder is a recent addition. I can’t believe fisherman just solo’ed down in leather boots, carrying a bucket and pole before!!!
Tiago is the man and yeah, the rock and hang at Mango is world class! I hope it gets more visitors now. I’m scheming to try to get AO to Mango to spray him down so he can flash Filipinos. I bet he’d have a decent shot

Althought we don't have much 9a around there are super cool routes around 8a-8c in many crags, like Montejunto, Reguengo do Fetal, Sesimbra, but you met Tiago, a great and humble guy, he for sure can lead you to many places, I will sit back and enjoy the videos unless we meet somehow in some crag :D Till then, thanks for the visit!

Nice climb! I traveled through Portugal couple of years ago and also went to meo mango. It's a great place and maybe one of the best in Portugal. In total Spain is much better, just came from a Spain trip and it is mind blowing how many areas are even not developed. It's endless and in the norther part so much greener than around Terragona. But yeah, nice climb at beautiful places.

Finding good beta just takes a minute! Finding the master beta takes being close for a while and then making some adjustments

The equipper of the route, a guy named “Mike”, named the route after these cookies called “Filipinos” that he was always bringing to the crag

There is everything from 5.11- to 5.15. Vertigo climbing in Lisbon has a guiding service! I think you can book in through their website!
