You need a hollow crank for the CS prop, and while “it’s just bolt on” it’s still a pretty big job. You need to work with the FAA and you probably need to put it back into phase one(read your operating limitations on your air worthiness certificate). I recently installed a new engine and prop in my 8. The FAA was great to work with.
Love my RV6!
I've been at Johnson Creek when a bunch of of RV 4 hooligans fly in, and damn they land and takeoff short, for a plane that goes so fast!
In the middle of a 4 build right now, year or so to finish. Lycoming O360 A1A 180 hp with Catto 2 blade.
Beautiful plane. Greeley is a great airfield with a nice cafe.
Nice job
I just happened across this video and imagine my smile when I heard him.mention the Rocky Mountain Renegades, then he mentions the yellow RV4 ( mine!)
He is totally correct...160 hp 320 fixed pitch light airplane is the perfect RV4. And the sensenich GA is a great prop but its very light and will change your rear seat capability..but that prop when you get it dialed in is amazing..if you buy one you may have to have it indexed for 180hp though...not enough bite available on the standard pitch pins.
Your 4 is a beauty I never dreamed i would have mine over 20 years and do the things with it I have done.. welcome to the club..:)
Great group of pilots
I have an RV-4 with 160 HP, and fixed pitch Sensenich, in my humble opinion, the expense, weight, and complexity of constant speed prop is not worth the slight increase in performance!
That's a good opinion and great to hear that perspective
160 HP & FP, makes the 4 a better handling plane👍
Great video.! 160hp Sensenich GA carbon prop.
Thanks for the info!
Are the numbers you state mph? Love your plane man.
170kts+, roughly 200mph or so
Too bad you can’t pull in those gear
Girlfriend comments from a nose dragger RV owner... lol
hahaha you have a point there!
Don’t waste money on a wobbly prop.
I like Vans airplanes, but unfortunately the company is in trouble. They have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Lots of creditors are getting screwed and will not get paid. People who are building their airplanes, right now, will have to put in to get their money refunded for parts they have not yet recieved, or pay more for the parts. Too bad, they make nice airplanes.
