It is hilarious. Still, when you think about it, the lyrics to this song read more like a self loathing apology from Lou Barlow to J Mascis than a criticism (although I'm sure there's a pound of flesh buried in the lyrics. There are clearly lines that are meant to be cryptic messages to the man, who knows what they mean? ). I can't help but wonder how much of this relates to Deal/Black?
Story is when J walked in to the studio they were playing this. THey stopped, he instisted they play it again. They found this amusing and obliged. He then insisted they record it. They kept laughing at him. He got a little frustrated and wanted to know why they thought the song wasn't any good. They finally told him what the song was. The whole time he didn't know. He still thought they should record it though.
Should've added that J was producing a 4 song EP for them. It was the Safari EP. If I'm remembering correctly they had already recorded Safari. They recorded this, the Who cover So Sad About Us, and I can't quite remember the other song, with J. I believe the other song was an alternate version of Head to TOe, but don't quote me on that.
knowing that mascis produced this track, it seems like he took lou's song and just sarcastically reflected the lyrics back at him, maybe it's the way kim is singing.
@breakroomlive Never thought of this that way... perhaps because it's not her own song, I didn't think about the accuracy of the lyrics. But u know what? U're totaly right.
@leehazlewoodism and the pitch of the song sounds higher. Not evenm just the voice the guitars too, it's like they just put it in audacity and sped it up lol.
what you mean, you think that any band who would like to cover this song in the way of the breeders would fail, because it is only the level of the breeders?
metolapata is right ! I like boths personally ! but barlow was an huge part of dinosaur at the period before dinosaur broke up, J never would lou compose songs like he does in sebadoh , because tht wasnt the spirit of dinosaur, lou nderstand that and sebadoh was already created in 89 ' so it doesnt mind ! viva barlow and J AND MURF !!
The fact that this is produced by J Mascis is hilarious
holy shit that IS hilarious

Like clearly he had never given a thought to actually listening to what Lou did after he left Dinosaur
@@Sp8ceMonkey1 no this was in fact a diss track, he calls him self righteous and cruel
@@spud_grrrl he’s not calling himself that? It’s very confusing

And every bit applies to Kim -> Frank Black.
It's amazing
Woah!!! Didn't know about this. Thanks for uploading!
The fact that this was all a dis on J Mascis and he produced this is crazy💀
This is so perfect ❤️❤️❤️❤️
About 1,000 times faster than the original, but that's cool.

Or maybe it’s more directed towards Frank Black, since they had a shitty relationship just like Dinosaur jr.
Really cool!
She's said over and over in interviews she was never stifled.Pixies was as much as she wanted to sing and write, not kept from anything.

Dude black Francis kinda scared the shit out of me when his picture just comes up..
great job!
Are the breeders actually a surf band? Really truly deeply love these guys.
Guys:D
The sentiments in this song could also be applied to Deal's relationship to Black Francis?
No! I don't think so...
I do not believe this cover is a coincidence.
@breakroomlive I think you got the undercurrent and I totally agree. Great song and great band to cover it.
I have nothing better to do, than pay too much attention to you.
2:15 what are u doing here frank?
Being Frank
Finally got this on a 10 inch today.
amazing...maybe better than the original..
No.
has it been mentioned that J. Mascis produced this song?

Mascis and Barlows tiff=Black and Deals

Is the song not called 'The Freed Pig' and not just 'Freed Pig'?
The Sebadoh version has "the" in it, The Breeders version doesn't.
@breakroomlive kinda like frank black when she was in the pixies.
1:05
@STUARTSt321 CineMarx does a cover of it.
what you mean, you think that any band who would like to cover this song in the way of the breeders would fail, because it is only the level of the breeders?

I love the way it's been totally reinterpreted and in no way sounds like the original sped up by 15%.
Dinosaur should cover this.
I'd rather dinosaur jr covered it
@@marketville Seeing a dinosaur cover it could be cool tho
prefer the original
Mascis revenge's on Lou, this is better than sebadoh
this song is on a very personal level so its not a great song to cover
I agree, J and Dino are weak. Thank god Barlow went on to form the much better Sebadoh.
so weird that all lou wanted to do is be in dinosaur his whole career though
