    In his editorial new rule, Bill Maher laments the fact that, even if Trump doesn't become president, we live in a country where nearly half the people think he should be.

    • @Argumemnon
      @Argumemnon Před 7 lety +4

      Matthew Vella It's not foresight. It's fiction. Sometimes, yes, things turn out as they did in fiction, but most of the time it's not, so it's not as if Maher can point to a statistical significance in movie predictions.

      There is a difference between facism and authoritarianism.... but whatever, just a nitpick... anyway, its a comedy bit as much as it is a serious editorial, take it with a grain of salt, but yeah I disagreed with him a lot here too. However, the USA where to adopt the roman system of dictatorship, where in cases of emergency a temporary dictator is asigned to fix the situation, I'd strongly recomend Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye, or Bernie Sanders for the job.
      The USA is a good example of why a democracy in an uneducated nation doesnt work: your choices are an psychopathic egomaniac with no moral codes and the maturity of a 5 year old crybaby, or a corrupt women who is a hawk, will cheat the system for political gain, and who is willing to use everything and everyone as pawns on a massive chessboard. If we want to be technical, democracies where never ment to work for idiot nations like the USA, they where meant to work for enlightened people from the start (like ancient Athens, and in more modern times Swizerland), so I can understand (even if I strongly disagree with) Bills point here.

Everyone has bias and when it comes to political bias its normal to show your bias because its important things you care about. People that dont want Trump in the white house not only are allowed to but SHOULD be vocal about their thoughts and worries if they have the platform to do so. Same goes if you are somebody that worries about Clinton or whomever is running in a given cycle.
      This isnt hard news it doesnt need to be void of bias. Its opinion based

(i.e. Stein, Sanders, etc.)"*

    • @jordant0085
      @jordant0085 Před 7 lety +9

      Rick Sanchez the way the electoral college is set up is a state wide popular vote. It takes your states number of senators and representatives and adds them together. Who ever wins the popular vote in that state wins those electoral votes it's not like people get to pick at random if a candidate wins the state they get the electoral votes. The only two places where this isn't true is Nebraska and Maine this is because they split their votes into congressional districts for example the city of Omaha in Nebraska gets one electoral vote because it's a congressional district and that's decided by popular vote in that city.

    • @cenauge
      @cenauge Před 7 lety +2

      In fairness to Rick, there is no "or else" attached to the state laws that say electors have to vote for whomever the voters choose. You can either interpret that to mean that the electors themselves are a formality in those states and whether they vote or not (and for whom), their vote goes to who their state voted for. Or you can go the Senate Republicans route, where not doing what you are supposed to do (re: Supreme Court nominations) just deadlocks the system because no one can punish you when no punishment is defined.
      In all practical terms, though, it's a non-issue. It is the party that wins which sends its slate of electors to the college and electors are without exception some of the most die-hard, loyal party members. On the Democratic side, it is pretty much certain that Hillary's people have control over who will be on the Democratic party slates of electors. On the GOP side, Trump probably has that locked down, but Reince Priebus has been sounding a little rebellious lately. If the GOP manages a procedural screw up even in the electoral college, that will be the turd-cherry on top of the shitshow sundae that is this election cycle.

And Wall-E was a year before The Road, which was a year before the Book of Eli. Hell, if we look at the first Mad Max movie, it was released in *1979*. This isn't some new development in Hollywood. My country's (Germany's) history is riddled with poor political decisions, and so, in my upbringing, I, as well as my peers, was encouraged to search within my conscience if I felt something was awry; then to seek information and reach an educated decision. I feel that it is a shame that the democratic party decided to push Mr. Sanders under the bus and went ahead with Mrs.Clinton as presidential candidate. I understand that HBO (Time Warner) is, in terms of political contributions, the single most democratic/liberal biased company in the US, and so, the person who is writing your scripts has a responsibility towards the political left, even if at its head, there waits a money laundering oligarch and a war criminal - but do you share the same responsibilities? Is there no other alternative to the "orange hitler orangutan", that you could have built up with your tremendous media influence?
