  • What if the Birth Family changes their mind? It happened. The heartbreak was deep. The depression was long lasting. Hear our own adoption loss story and my 12 signs your adoption MAY fail. I hope these 12 signs help you in your adoption journey.
    Hi! I'm Tami....mom to three incredible kids who each have their own beautiful adoption story. It's because of them that I am an Adoption Advocate - educating families, wiping tears (& crying with you), cheering you on, & walking with you through your own journey & beyond. The good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly. We'll talk about it all.
    Come have coffee with me & let's chat about all the things - adoption, race, black hair care, family - all in a real life environment of imperfect filming & unedited kid comments. 😜🙌 NEW VIDEOS WEEKLY (ish...Life is busy, y'all!). Click that 🔔 to get Notified when a new video is uploaded. 🙌

    Why are some families so successful with adoption and others cannot find a match?

    • @TamiMajtan
      @TamiMajtan  Před 2 lety

      In my experience and opinion, usually couples aren't successfully matched with a birth family because the adoptive families preferences are too narrow. The more open couples are (for example open vs closed adoption, visits vs no visits, etc.) the more easily they will be matched.

      @@TamiMajtan How can families open up their preferences? Especially, if they are faced with state adoption regulations that prevent approval from special needs if their county does not have a hospital or the demographics of the county does not match the racial profile of a transracial family? And it also assumed that rural families live too remotely for visits of any kind.

      @@exploitthechildless1510 Private Adoptions in the US won't typically have these issues. Families are approved with a homestudy before they are even matched with a birth family. Adoptive families open up their preferences by letting their agency know, for example, they'd be open to visiting the birth family. Birth families choose an adoptive family according to their preferences for an adoptive family. When all preferences line up then the birth family can choose (or not) to be matched with that adoptive family. It's all up to the birth family.

      @@TamiMajtan That is very disappointing. I don't see a way for us to be successful with domestic infant adoption. We are required to comply with state adoption regulations.

      @@TamiMajtan We are approved, but only for healthy caucasian infant. The lack of a hospital in rural areas is well known. Also, rural areas are much less racially diverse than urban areas. The adoption agencies we have contacted state there are no healthy caucasian infants available.
