  • Who will win? Will paying $200 for a wireless microphone and lavalier REALLY get you more than paying $80 or $120?
    UPDATE August 18, 2022: Rode tech support did eventually get back to me, and said this:
    "Thanks for sharing that video!
    I can definitely hear what you are talking about.
    It's hard to determine why this happened, as there are a number of variables at play.
    It could have been an old glitch that has since been corrected with updates, or even something to do with the camera and particular settings on that one occasion.
    I know that earlier updates fixed issues regarding clicking and popping noises, so this could be a part of that as well."

    Hi Matt! I found this video because I'm in the market for a wireless mic and am doing some research. I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed this video very much! Helpful information, easy to understand, and I like your style of presentation. Your sense of humour kept me watching and had me giggling several times. The comment about how you look in the light determining which fork in the road you take, had me laughing out loud and prompted this feedback. Keep up the good work! (Karen from Australia)

    Interesting review, thank you. The Rode does not come with a lav, it must have been the shop bundling one.

      @MatthewHaines  Před rokem

      Thanks for your comment! I bought it on Amazon from the Rode store, so it's a configuration they offer there. I see that B&H offers an option that includes a Rode-branded lav (not Polsen), but they might be adding that in-store. I guess whether it's a shop adding it or Rode, I'd advise to skip the option unless you know you're getting a good lav with it.

    I think the boya wins this. You did an excellent job with this video. Gave us almost a little too much samples. Look at your retention and cut a bit more if you aren't holding viewers. Just telling you cause that tweek will get you growing a lot faster. My fav cheap one of these is the kimafun. I'm a tester for Amazon so always testing way too much. Also have way to many channels :)

      @Matthew Haines also another thought. I used to use bright backgrounds a lot all the different neons. But then realized that the neon catches attention while drawing you away from your subject. Darker or plain backgrounds where you make the subject stand out will do better. Can check out @snakecakeexotics and see how I shifted over time.

      Is the Boya WM 6 S the kit with the male USB-C connector (presumably for direct connection to your phone or tablet). I’m looking at Amazon right now (it’s primeday 😊) and if that’s the kit you used, I see there is also a kit with a lightning connection.

    I need good mic for my room which has lots echo of my voice. Will boya be good enough?

    • @MatthewHaines
      @MatthewHaines  Před rokem +2

      Hi! Almost all lavalier/wireless mics are omni mics, so they tend to pick up more room sound than a cardioid mic. If you have an echoey room, you should have your mic as close as possible to your mouth. I don’t know how you’re using your mic (on-camera, gaming, podcast etc) but perhaps a traditional or usb mic might be better.
      The boya will work about the same as the other wireless mics when it comes to picking up room sound.

    • @MatthewHaines
      @MatthewHaines  Před rokem +1

      Perhaps you would be better with a mini shotgun mic. It all depends on how you're using it though. Here's a video I did recently and you can hear how they work in a very echoey room. The closer the mic is to your mouth, the better. Although changing rooms might be the best solution of all.

    • @MarcosElMalo2
      @MarcosElMalo2 Před rokem

      @@MOTHIATMANit’s not a mic problem, it’s a room acoustics problem. Sound waves are bouncing off the walls, floor, and/or ceiling. You can solve it permanently, semi-permanently, or temporarily quite easily. Temporarily, use heavy blankets or quilts on the walls to deaden the echo. You might have to install a couple of hooks or nails into your walls so you can clip them in place. Start with just one wall/blanket and see if that helps. If you don’t have any blankets, look for “moving blankets” or “moving pads” at your local big box hardware store, at Harbor Freight, or online. These are not expensive.
      Along the same lines, a blanket or carpet on the floor can absorb echo from the ceiling. If you have a stand, you can drape blankets anywhere in the room, not just on the walls.
      You can also purchase acoustic tiles made of foam rubber that stick to your wall with adhesive. I have no experience using these. You might not need to cover the entire wall.
