Couldn't find a pigeon to deliver the message, but after a year and 10 months I've finally landed an offer for my first salaried UX/UI design role! I never wish this journey takes this long for anyone, but if you're persistent and open to continually growing (and feedback) you'll get there. Good luck to all who are still on the hunt!
Companies need calling out on ghosting. It’s seriously unprofessional and just bad manners. They could actually be building the future employees they want if they actually point out where you’re going wrong.

Yeah but they're the ones who have something you want. It's not their problem if you're not actually employed by them.
@@gezzapk doesn’t matter. that attitude does nothing to improve the quality of the workforce, which does affect them and their productivity at the end of the day. and not telling people where they could improve so that they can eventually become more useful to the workforce is completely ass backwards thinking on their part. so the bottom line is their asses need to stop acting like the workforce is a one-way street and do their due diligence in improving it. they shouldn’t be acting like they have the damn krabby patty formula on lockdown to keep it from prying eyes who can steal their workflow formula. it’s a job. it’s not that deep.
i mean to play devil's advocate, they probably get 100s of resumes every month, they surely don't have enough time to read thay

I'll never forget how one well-known company (huge company) in Toronto asked job applicants (UX designers) to find design solutions even before the interview invitation, and then in a few months I got an email that they decided not to hire me after 2 rounds of the job interview :) Can you imagine this non-sense? I had no interviews with that company :) We have to, eventually, "wake up" and be able to say no all together when companies use our skills for free.
i just signed up for the foundation fundamentals and used your link.... I'm finishing web development fundamentals from nucamp at the end of the week but I feel more in the creative/design in tech.... let the journey begins! thanks

I have an interview for an unpaid internship tomorrow it's my first interview of any sort for UX, hope I can have the experience of first off landing it ...then get that job offer after a couple months! thats the dream. It seems so scary having to present and have my work looked at !! Not freaking out at all 😱😭

Hi Mimi! To start - thank you so much for all your videos, you're helping me immensely!! I'm wanting to make the career switch from dental hygiene to UX and have been doing a lot of research, and thankfully found your channel! Unfortunately with most hygienists, we only get associate degrees. In your opinion, do you feel like not having a bachelor's will hinder me? I'm wanting to make the switch sooner than later, not in two years 😭
Hi Courtney! That's a great question and it really depends on the job description and the company's needs, but I personally don't believe having an associates degree would prevent you from becoming a UX Designer. There's a lot of principles in UX that wasn't taught in school per say - at least for me.

@@meghop hey! ahh there are so many, but the three I'm deciding between are General Assembly, Springboard, and Designlab! The price difference is pretty huge. I'm not sure which to go with :( how about you?
@@xprofesh I think I’m going to go with Interactive Design Foundation. I’m going to get a membership and take a few of their intro courses to get my feet wet. All of their courses are free to take with membership and earn industry recognized certificates. I plan to enroll in one of their bootcamps after I have a good grasp on things. Their bootcamps are priced separately from the membership, but are significantly cheaper than most that I’ve seen.

Hi Mimi, I just finished a bootcamp and now working on creating my online portfolio and updating my resume (and thinking about my next project while job searching). I have an accounting and administrative assistant background so I'm having a hard time tweaking my resume. Do you have any tips for a career changer with no design background of how to tackle this? How did you approach this with your own resume?
I would try and play up the skills that you've learned in your previous career and how it can apply to the UX design process. I'm hoping to do a video in the future to showcase the great soft skills that UX Designers should develop along with a resume one in the future so stay tuned. How long into the unpaid internship did you transition into the paid role? Currently in the UxUi program at Thinkful and would appreciate the info, thanks for this video!

@@mimimichi I live in Canada, and, as far as I know, in my province, unpaid internships are illegal. You have to be enrolled in a related to your profession program in college or university or any other school to be able to do coop or the internship. I wish my professors in college informed us but they didn't care :) After graduation from college (Web Design and Interactive Media program) which is my second post-secondary education (I have Master's Degree in Fashion Design in another country and 6 years of design experience in furniture industry) , finding an entry-level job in UX design in Canada seems to be something impossible, especially for mature students (30+ years old). I don't meet requirements in some companies in Toronto to be less than 25-27 years old for internships and entry-level jobs in UX design. ...not giving up, anyway ;)

Hi! I don't know how to code and personally don't believe it's necessary right now to land a job in UX. Could help you get a leg up, but as of now, not the most important aspect about learning UX Design.
