    Yesterday I fixed my original joycons that came with my switch on launch day. 1mm of cardboard or business card seemed to be too thick and less than 0.7mm was too little so I settled with 0.7mm. It's awesome playing with them again in skyward sword HD. Drift shouldn't have been a prob in the first place but Nintendo obviously never cared.

    • @SSGSativa
      @SSGSativa Před 3 lety +6

      @@cal5964 I just used a business card and wrapped regular, clear, scotch tape around the little squares of it I cut out till they were 0.7mm. Go to any place of business or any one that has free business cards you can take and use them. One business card can fix over like 6 joycons. If you don't have calipers, just wrap the squares of card little by little. Put the shells on but don't screw it together yet and hold it firmly together and test to see if it is still drifting. If it is, you may need no wrap more tape around it. Check again till you got it fixed and put it back together. I wouldn't go over 1mm though. Your controller will bulge too much and if you need more than 1mm, your graphite contacts inside the controller are probably too dusty or actually worn really bad. Good luck!

      @@cal5964 no problem! If you have any questions when trying this, please feel free to ask me. Also, you don't need to take off any ribbon cables, just be careful. And there is a part inside (I believe the left joycon) that you need to unscrew. There are 4 screws and it looks like you need to take them all out but you ONLY need to take out 2 of them. Taking out the others isn't needed and can easily strip the pcb. I suggest you watch an up to date vid first (Edit: My bad. Just realized these comments are under a vid on this entire topic🤦🤣). But it's simple enough and again, when you do this, if you have any questions at all, just hit me up on here. Have a good one!

      @squiddog8933 Před 3 lety

      Although it would definitely be harder to do than a regular Switch it theoretically shouldn't be too difficult. You could just follow a Switch Lite joystick replacement tutorial but when they are about to replace them just put cardboard under them instead.

    • @beaumartin366
      @beaumartin366 Před 3 lety +1

      @@squiddog8933 see, the problem is that the right joy stick is A LOT harder to get to than the left one.
      And, I dont know if you would be able to put something under the joysticks because of what’s already under them.
      Its not like the normal joy con where its plastic right behind your cardboard,
      There are pcb’s and other parts so idk how it would affect it.
      As long as you dont go to thick then you shouldn’t break anything.
      But you basically have one shot to get it right, or you’ll have to take the whole dang thing apart again.

    My results: I had an original series red right Joycon that was drifting, and I used this method. It works!
    My notes: Everywhere I looked online it said to use a 1.5mm tri-wing, not a 2.0mm. So I had ordered that prior to watching this disassembly video, and it works; I have trouble imagining how a 2mm would even fit--maybe that's why so many people strip the screws? Also, I didn't measure the thickness but I used a Tracfone refill card, which seems to be the thickness of all gift-card backers as well. It kept drifting downwards right when I put it back together, but I wiggled it in all directions to get it evened out and that was all it took!
    Also, I didn't unplug the battery, I just flipped it downward out of the way as I only was putting the cardboard in.
    I saw as I was opening it that there is a narrow channel along the battery that the antenna wire is supposed to be seated in. I made sure to tuck it back in when re-assembling. Thank you so much!

      @mynamedoesnotmatter737 Před 2 lety +1

      It’s possible that the shims are causing the top half of the joycon along w the joystick to sit higher/ bulge the center area, and since the home button has the lowest profile and is closest to the joystick it’s most affected and noticeable. I have no input as how to resolve it other than disassembling it to see if there’s some way you can adjust it.

    2:42 I have a weird issue where the bottom silver rectangle box stays attached to the back case instead of the front case for some weird reason which is kind of dangerous since there are wires getting pulled. Not sure what to do, I replaced my other joycon's stick a few months ago and didn't have this issue. Not sure if there's a way to make the silver box stay on the front case when I try to open the joycon.
    EDIT: Fixed, it has two holes on the bottom that allow you to insert something thin to VERY slowly pull down and remove it from the back case. Then I just pressed it down gently on the front case.

    Ah a reupload to fix the audio. Still fine tho.
    Although in my opinion, you should use glove or avoid touching the double adhesive in the battery holder to prevent any fingerprints.

    Does anyone have any idea's on what I'm doing wrong? I did everything in the video as best I could but when I closed the Joy Con it simply would not close completely and I can see the insides from the slide rail. I than took it apart and took out the business card cut that I put in there and when I closed it it still didn't close properly. I'm not sure what to do.

    Yo thanks for the vid. I bought a Fortnite switch from someone I know for 80$ and the right joycon looked like it was ripped out while in the switch, so I have to replace the tech inside. I’d normally just buy a new controller but I like the shell this one has

    Unfortunately I never made it inside to see if the fix would work for me due to ruined screws and I ended up breaking (popped out) my L2 button because I was trying to separate the left joy-con shell apart 😔. On top of that I had another screw that wouldn't budge either. The two other screws were fine.

  • @geekyprojects1353

    I detached the battery by pulling at the cables and the wires came loose. Was it intended to be this way? If yes there is a danger of shorting the battery.
    Edit: this is terrible advice, I destroyed the battery plug.
