I'm from El Paso, TX myself, born and raised, and we get very few things go our way, so this movie is comforting. Great movie, well told. Don Haskins coached at UTEP until 1999, he passed away 2 years after this movie was released.
Pat Riley is currently the general manager of the Miami Heat. And yes, one of the better coaches in the NBA as well.

Also might be the only person ever to win a NBA championship as a player, assistant coach, Head coach and executive. Really a legend of legends
Texas Western University is now known as University of Texas at El Paso UTEP!!

I definitely think this is one of Disney’s biggest sleepers! One of my favorite movies and top sports stories of all time!!!!

And there was a documentary done about this game. It was a big deal for a long time. Pat Riley was in the doc and he said fir the first half of his nba career he was always reminded about this game from teammates and players etc.
This NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP was in between UCLA (and John Wooden) 10 championships in 12 years. ‘64, ‘65, ‘67, ‘68, ‘69, ‘70, ‘71, ‘72, ‘73, (lost to North Carolina in ‘74), ‘75. ‘66 was Texas-Western. Lew Alcindor//Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for UCLA from 66 to 70 and Bill Walton played for UCLA from 71 to 75. But John Wooden did win when he didn’t have the best centers in the country.

I was gonna recommend the movie We Are Marshall. But you’d need a full box of tissues for that one 😭
2nd best football movie after rudy ,we are Marshall is great Anthony Mackie gives a great performance (pretty much they all do)
Marshall is a near flawless movie. It's so incredibly touching, inspirational and the story is extremely well told.

That is a fantastic recommendation too. I happened to be working at the Fulton County Airport - Brown Field where they filmed all of the airport/airplane scenes for We Are Marshall. I was a Line Service Technician employed by a company known as Raytheon Aircraft Services, towing and fueling airplanes and providing quality Customer Service to our based and transient aviation customers. I met a LOT of interesting celebrities, VIPs, and politicians while working there from September 1996 through February 2001.
The Express is a good movie as well.
This one is a gem. It’ll never get old. The moment the music starts playing at the end when It shows Don then his wife always hits man…😢😢😢
My wife went to UT at El Paso when Don Haskins coached there. She had this movie on a VCR tape & we watched it years ago.
I’ve been anxiously waiting on this as I knew you would both really enjoy it. Don Haskins, known as “The Bear” played at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) under the great Hall of Fame coach Henry Iba. So did my high school coach, and in the ‘60’s that meant discipline, pass so many times before cutting for a shot, and above all play defense tight. But Coach Haskins found a place he loved and stayed put even with other offers. In the ‘80’s I lived in El Paso and saw many UTEP games. I always remember Coach could not watch a free throw; he’d look down, turn away, hold up a towel, anything but watch. Guess that was his superstition.
Texas Western still exist today but under a different name: UTEP. My mom attended UTEP for a little bit.
I actually remembered this as a young kid. I knew it was something special....but because I was so young I did not fully understand the significance of what happened. Great story and a great movie.
You two are precious. That intro had me laughing😂Two other great sports movies that I hardly ever see listed anywhere and haven’t seen any reactions to is “Radio” and “Rudy”. Both are also true stories and very good. Much love❤️
My mom dated Don Haskins before she met my dad. She mentioned that out of the blue when I was describing this movie to her. She was like "so the movie is about Don Haskins? I actually dated him in high school". RIP, mom.

You guys got to a great film, having been born and raised in El Paso, everyone knew of The Bear, Don Haskins. My dad got out of the army and went to Texas Western when this happened, and I grew up going to UTEP (Texas Western) basketball games when Tim Hardaway was attending UTEP. Hardaway had a nasty crossover that was nicknamed the UTEP two step. They got a statue up now of Don Haskins in front of the Don Haskins center here in El Paso. So long as you guys enjoyed the story and the film, we won’t hold it against you that you weren’t aware of this part of both Texas sports history and college basketball history. It’s ok, we still dig you guys and really enjoy your reactions, keep them coming

Asia getting her sports mixed up. Super bowl is NFL championship. Cotton Bowl is a NCAA football bowl game. Love your reactions! They fictionalized the story. Don Haskins actually started coaching Texas Western (it is now called University of Texas-El Paso, or UTEP) in 1961.
I’m from El Paso Tx Texas Western is now UTEP . University Texas El Paso Don Haskins is an El Paso TX ICON We even have a an arena called the Don Haskins Center. I worked at the El Paso Convention Center in the late 80’s. And Bobby Jo Hill parked there every day in the garage 💕🏀🗑️🏀🗑️🏀🗑️
One of the best sports movies is "Money Ball," starring Brad Pitt. True story about the Oakland A's 2002 baseball season.
Definitely one of the great happenings in sports.
I hope you didn't miss the interviews of the real players from Texas Western and Kentucky as the credits rolled at the end of the film.
Love this flick from my home city El Paso. I have a poster handed down of team with the championship. Also a ol school Mavs fan, remember losing for years until Cuban shook things up.

Cotton Bowl is a real thing! It’s NCAA Football postseason game. Used to be a major bowl before the “Playoff” format!
There are like 50 Bowl games that act as season championship games, for everyone outside of the playoff format.

Okay, this is totally off the subject, but for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, you two should watch The Last Emperor. I believe it is a true story about the last emperor of China. Filmed in 1987, it's an epic movie I think you all will love. I'm going to watch it later today.

Guys!!!!! Come on now!!!! Field Of Dreams, Hoosiers, Remember The Titans, and Rocky I can see, but there's no way Glory Road should be watched before Miracle. That is considered by many to be the best sports movie ever, and it's a true story.
