Thanks Jonas, this answered actually ¾ of my questions
Which questions are missing? :D
@@JonasTyroller well, I do need to design better icons, how to get consistent people to download my game for a while or at least see the page, best way to advertising without any lost, and how to even start building an audience! Like I have a YT channel for gaming, where to actually start publishing, steam? ($100 when I'm making 0),? Itch.io (free) but quickly gets down the browse page so, dont expect too much download , just to mention a few😟. And what kind of graphics is needed, (see my latest games and tell me if I should spend more time on development of what), when to scrap a game idea completely, how to know if my games are good during beta stages when noone has actually done the survey,.
@@JonasTyroller ?
@@RedstoneinventeArmoredGuy Rip, he didn't see your reply..
@Jonas Tyroller !!
We don't need sleep, we need answers
@@K_J_Coleman_Composer unfortunately 😶. But I kinda got my answer with him via discord, thanks for caring thought 😃
"A compelling fantasy is something you would want to do in real life but can't"
Fantasy of Will you Snail: Being killed
Ok Wtf 😂
I always wished to be able to be a skinless piece of meat that is being slaughtered by big circular saws, but that has too many negative consequences, which is why I prefer to play Super Meat Boy instead.
Being a triangle circulating a hexagon while being destroyed by walls which are infinitely moving towards the hexagon has no negative consequences at all, so why play Super Hexagon then?
Thanks! Followed your advice. I now have over 1 billion trillion downloads.
Ez.
I love how well the "Will You Snail" soundtrack blends in with your "talking podcasts". I've heard it so many times in your videos already that now I just always feel hyped when I hear it again! :D Which brings us to the point in the video "the more often you see something, the more you like it", hmm? :)
Oh, glad you're starting to like it. :D
0:28 You give a damn first
1:03 Build an audience
1:53 Get people involved
3:08 Keep showing your game
3:58 Make an appealing game
Omg, you have 24.5k Subscribers!
Let's get you to 25k before Christmas!
This is a fantastic overview, it’s networking you need to get your name out there, but for the right reasons. If you are doing it only so people will play your game they will see right through you. Be genuine about your connections.
True. Relationships can only work if they're win-win.

Oh, yes yes I see... You were talking about GAME DEV TIPS, Indie Game Marketing Advice, Game Dev, Game Development, How to Make Games, How to Market Your Indie Game, Indie Game Marketing, GAME MARKETING, game marketing ideas, game marketing tips, game marketing campaign. I completely agree to what you've said. Good point.
@@JonasTyroller I have that feeling that you want to discuss about GAME DEV TIPS, Indie Game Marketing Advice, Game Dev, Game Development, How to Make Games, How to Market Your Indie Game, Indie Game Marketing, GAME MARKETING, game marketing ideas, game marketing tips, game marketing campaign on my channel :^)
Great video Jonas! Tip 4 is something we’ve been doing, especially thanks to you. That podcast we recorded is doing great.
You really do supply us with a lot of value Jonas, I was instantly attracted to your channel, so thank you!
Loved the trailer beat at the end!
Really cool stuff Jonas. Will you Snail looks Rad! Very insightful and to the point.
Thanks for the good tips, I will use them all in future :D
Some great advice there! Keep up the good work!
Tip in making a good game: 1. Play multiple and identical games 2. Find the negative side of the games you played like design or game ideas i.e. Gran Tursimo and Grid what makes those two identical racing games different from each other Gran Turismo you can modified stock cars, Grid your car can get damage when you hit another car.... 3. Make games related to books, movies, history and sports and training purposes like building houses, cars and electronic gadgets.
Good video again. I hope and think my game hits at least a few of your points. I’ll see if I can get more of them checked off.
Have a nice weekend.
Great tips I absolutely agree with you! The best tips for me is to make an appealing game but it's also the most difficult haha
Thank you, this video was really help full.
Thank you, helps a lot :D
Dammit Jonas.. you are so on point. Thanks for this valuable video :D
"Being a soldier or a ninja is a compelling fantasy in a video game". LOL. Funny but very true. The theme park fantasy surprised me, but it seems to be true.
I will keep watching for more tips!
Love you Jonas. Keep it up.
You are a god, you gave me so much important knowledge!
Thanks again!
0:07 wow those games seem awesome!!!!
5:21 My game: "Oh wow, this game is about being a snail, I love being a snail, and oh- it also looks so epic"
Hi! I am a new fan of yours from Finland! I am making my first commercial game and these five tips were great for me. I have thought about building my community. But I have a problem, I fear that if I show my game idea too early, someone will steal it and make the game before I am ready. What do you think, is this a valid fear? Or just me being silly and too careful?
@Mikko Saarinen too careful.
Not a valid fear. Especially if it's your first commercial game nobody will steal your idea. Having ideas is the easy part. Pretty much everybody has more than enough of them. Best of luck with your game! :D
What is the name of the game shown after the 30th second, could you please share it? (Who is this building upholstered?)
(PLEASE REPLY TO THIS QUESTION) What if my game is very fast and I can't take screenshots at the right time when It is the best scene?
Hey jonas. I have commented 2 of your videos before (maybe 3) - I am developing a game since a few month back. Do you wanna try my game when its nearly ready? 😉 I memorized your tip 1), what do you think?😅
I used to get 10 - 15 views on my videos since I have used Reddit and Discord I get 200-300
Your game looks great. Keep it up. :)
@@JonasTyroller thank you. I start them and only do the first level... I don't sell them so I don't spend time on other levels..I go straight on to my next one.
Damn, damn, damn and damn again.
Love it
Which Programm you use for game design
These tips are good but I already had released my game so... I don't know what to do now, I test other people games
I would add something to the appealing game section:
Make satisfying animations(effects),for me this helps a lot,and the people can imagene how it might feel when they would play the game :)
For example if it´s a game with shooting mechanics add a knockback to your player,a screenshake when the enemy gets hit and mabye a bigger one when he dies,a effect when he sprints etc
Edit:Jonas maybe you talked about this at the 3 section, but my fingers were faster, sorry :D
Easier said than done.
Like how the heck am I supposed to create the animation for ejecting a spent artillery shell after the player shoots at something with the artillery cannon?
How am I supposed to write the script that plays the shell ejection animation after the player shot at something with the artillery cannon?
Especially when I don't know how to animate yet or write the code for the script very well.
Annd there's also another thing I need to do with the artillery cannon too but .
Who knows maybe, hopefully, my way of frankensteining shit from free models, taking and copying and pasting the scripts and animations into the model I'm making will hopefully work...
Thanks! Kinda worked for me but i still bad at making games, people did see my game but leaving hate commenta about bugs and how crappy my game is, im a scratcher, i use the scratch website. But maybe should i try Unity or Game maker?
Will the game "Will You Snail" be on the nintendo switch?
Hey Jonas in a couple I will be starting a channel on a 2D platformer I am creating do you think this is a good idea?
Hi Jonas. No mention of reaching out to gaming websites and gaming influencers? Wondering if you think that's as important as your other points and whether you will you be doing that with Will You Snail? Will You Jonas?
This is not a complete list. I made a longer 30 min marketing video some time back if you want to check that out. For this one let's just say reaching out to press is part of "Get your game in front of people as often as possible." It certainly helps and yes I'll do it. :D
*0:12** This should be a meme* 😁
Im putting my sweat and tears in to development of the game....
and my pc dies the day i need to release it
Lol
my game is on steam, called "His Journey" if you want you can go wishlist it ;)
cant wait for 2020
First tip is damn obvious, The whole reason I got hollow knight and ascent because it looks fantastic.
I had to rewatch the entore video cuz I was too focussed on the background games the first time.
in 2020 what day will will you snail be uploaded
Day 378? I don't know yet... :D
@@JonasTyroller ok well thanks for the reply
5:08 Whilst I do agree with you about fantasy, I do think there are outliers when it comes to being a successful game. Eg The Binding Of Isaac. Who want's their mum to attempt to murder them, escape into a basement, and shoot monsters with their tears?
I'm not saying I disagree with you on this, just an interesting conversation topic :D
Hi Jonas, I love your channel. I dont comment often but I couldnt help myself with this one. You gave a very truthful insight about game's appeal, yet will you snail for me dont deliver that. I mean mostly the environment and character - effects are awesome. I guess a gfx makeover might benefit this game alot, because if I didnt know you (yes you build your audience 👍 youre truly a giver) I probably wouldnt even consider buying it mainly because of the looks. I sincerely think that people who dont know you might feel similarly. I wish you a great launch and thank you for what you do, youre inspirational and awezzzzzzome. I dont want to make this post sound harsh, but i wish you and will you snail a success not only amongst your followers. Cheers Balthy
No worries. I'm aware of that issue. Not sure if or how I'll be able to fix it but I'm very aware. Thanks a lot for your feedback and your kind words. Best of luck to you as well. :)
Will you release the soundtrack on CZcams when you are done? It sounds awesome!
Yes, will do. Thank you. :)
Jonas Tyroller Could even make a paid special edition with extra unused tracks, maybe a PDF of artwork, etc. just thinking of ways to 1) Give fans more and 2) be sustainable.
but how did Jonas know about the latent neon action snail fantasy in all of our hearts?
One billion trillion downloads, LETS GO!
Im not a gamedev myself, but dont you guys think that it would be cool if the snail has a little backstory as well as the AI, that you can discover in secret paths or something, imo that would be dope
Yes, my play-testers have asked for more story as well. I'll see what I can do. :D
"How do you make people giva a damn?" -Jonas Tyroller, 2019 (0:18)
Well, these are ok tips BUT what matters most is a good STEAM PAGE and approaching CZcamsRS and other content creators correctly
Damn
3:26 only seen them once 80-90% of the time. I only play mobile games and look for paid TCG and strategy games and usually don't download because of ads.
Oh yeah, probably a bit of a different story on mobile. As most games are free people are more likely to just try them out I guess.
@@JonasTyroller I meant that I usually *pay* for mobile games and try to prevent free games. I also pay money on free games to remove ads but usually prefer paid games.
My point is that usually when *I* want a new game, I don't get it because of ads but because I want to try a new game. I then search for (paid) games and don't give a **** about games I've previously seen in ads.
The reality is that probably a lot of people get influenced by ads and your point made in this video is als true for mobile, but I'm not the norm as I don't hesitate to spend a couple of bucks for mobile games. People on the "Play Store" are greedy and egoistic as **** and complain about everything. In their world every game should have no ads, no p2w and 100% free content.
@@Toopa88 Haha. Okay. I see what you're saying... :D
What is the appeal in Will You Snail? Being a snail, of course!
I tried to find something to make people lightning again because everyone hates me and games they Target to me...
I love this video, but why it keeps starting over and over again from 0:25 .... wait
Another very helpful video! Great job Jonas, this will definitely help me in the FUTUREEEEEEEEE...
Edit: Also if my channel grows a bit more would u mind collab? Cuz I think that would be freakin' awesome!
Tip 5 should be number 1! If you think your game is meh what makes you think anyone else will not? I see it over and over again. Devs think they can throw a turd over a wall and it will magically turn to gold!
0:25
Finde richtig nice das du aus der Deutschen Community raus geschafft hast gg
Hey Jonas love the vids. I just published my first android game and was wondering if you would give it a go and let me know what ya think. I am trying to get feedback but am just not a social media person. If so let me know and i will send ya a link. Thanks either way man.
Hey Jonas
A prime example of the Ninja fantasy: czcams.com/video/wJ8erB6IeHU/video.html
Can someone start playing a game called “Sandbox 3D” please
loool the ending XD
@jonas paid advertising?
Good for getting your game in front of people multiple times I guess, but I haven't experimented with it yet to be honest. From what I've heard from other developers it's quite hard to make them work.
I don't agree that your game needs to look nice to have appeal. Just look at Factorio. That game doesn't look perticularly nice but I still had that "I need this game" moment when a friend of mine told me about it.
Exclusions always exist. On the other hand Factorio's gameplay trailer is awesome. That's what made me think "I need this game".
You are confusing two things. Appeal refers to the genre. A 8bit game will never have nice graphcis compared to a photorealistic one, but it still can be very appealing.
I agree to your disagreement. There is unfortunately a lot more to appeal than what I've mentioned in the video. The 3 rules I mentioned are a good approximation but unfortunately not the full picture.
Factorio has no amazing graphics, but it looks professional, consistent and polished - and that's enough for the type of game it is.
Don't mindread us! This is scary...
If you want a French translation, I could help you.
There are already 3 people translating to French which is enough for now I think. Thanks a ton for the offer. It's much appreciated. :)
Would it be called Voulez vouz escargot? My french isn’t very good ;)
I guess i’d be : Vas-tu escargot ?
But still, it doesn’t sound right...
3:10 It's called the "mere exposure effect" I think. Also, one billion trillion downloads from appeal? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Alle Münchener liken
i actually made a game, tho it's not very good, tho it's still a good way to pass time, i can link it here if anyone wants :P
I'll check it out :333 but you can't rlly link it tho cos ur comment will get deleted lol ive literally tried before
3:04 mobile ads.
Man nobody cares about my game some of my games ive been getting hates i ean lots no views and ive been bossed around and my acount got hacked 3 times by 3 bullys just for no reason i dont even know how roblox works.
5:11 Ah yes... like having multiple kiddie gurls with boing-boing in love with you and urge to do love with them in a fantasy RPG setting where age doesn't matter.
Sick of those games.
I was shocked to watch you place a building at a bit of an angle instead of tightly fit in that Islanders clip, truly disgusting
So that's why nobody is playing my game.....
the movement of that snail is garbage
