The thing probably transfers all the pain from the cut into the holder or something worse or takes away his sleep, giving him a permanent 4-a-clock shadow.

    Im-sama (will refer to as "he", for simplicity) could just be extremely adept at Observation Haki and Immortal, we've seen observation used to Sense: auras, feelings and strength and to actually See; It can be used across huge distances and to see the future.
    We don't know exactly how Haki works, but observation is related to focus and concentration, we were introduced to this concept, future sight and Im around the same point in history.
    - Im seems psychic
    - If you know the future, you might change it. Isolating himself might make his predictions more precise.
    - He lives in the literal center of the world and one of the highest places, best coverage by far
    - Mariejoa is the safest place in the world and he has a special calm little dome with trees for himself (And who knows what else)
    If he lived 800+ years in quasi-isolation, he could very easily have observation so strong that he could find out about anything. I don't think he is omniscient necessarily, he could learn anything, but he doesn't know everything, imagine like he had access to google.
    Of course he could and probably will have other powers, but I do think this is his main strength, he doesn't seem like a physically strong person and doesn't necessarily has a strong will to conquer (He already owns) and he could have a DF, but no way to know.
    Oh, and that eye, it sure wants to tell us something, Oda wouldn't show just the eye without any meaning behind, we have almost no visual cue about Observation, but the obvious place to put it would be the eye, there are many possible variations: size, color, ring(s), pupils; and we're seeing more eyes like this and visual eye effects, but just a thought.

    I don't think what you heard on twitter was true. Gravity doesn't get stronger the longer someone lives. If that person was talking about people getting shorter as they get older. That's because of either muscle atrophy or bone deterioration, which is an effect of ageing

    small correction: cells still divide after they run out of telomeres. every time DNA is copied, it loses a few nucleotides(b/c DNA polymerase is incompetent), telomeres are long strands of useless DNA put on the ends of your DNA to prevent actual important DNA from being lost. so every time your cells divide, it slowly chips away at your protective telomeres, until you don't have any telomeres ant start chipping at your important coding DNA, which will start causing damage to your DNA and consequently your body. and that's what causes aging. If you can find a way to infinitely lengthen your telomeres, you would not die from old age, which is harder than it sounds

    I like to think of immortality as not aging, and invulnerability as cannot die.
    So an immortal will live on forever until you destroy their body or soul or something. An invulnerable person simply cannot die. You can't wait for them to die of old age, you can't harm then by any means, you can't convince them to kill themselves, and you cannot travel back in time to stop them from being born. They are completely invulnerable, and only an omnipotent being can kill or harm them.

      Nah. Other than the Imu, the Gorosei, Kuhera, Brook and Shakky, no one in the One Piece world lives that long. I mean, I put shakky in there because she looks very young for someone who retired 40 years ago.
      WB was in his 70s. Garp is most likely in his 70s and Rayleigh in his 60s. Kihera is in her 100+.
      So no. Only an handful live past 100. Luffy might not reach 40 if he continues to be reckless. All his gears are lifespan shortening gears and he use them quite frequently.

    Immortality really just means you're not gonna die by aging. People just slapped the "literally unkillable by any means" stuff on it since it usually refers to gods and stuff that are notoriously hard to kill. Calling it the immortal surgery is fine; the words that describe "un-damageable" that would have been inaccurate are "invincible" or "invulnerable".

    • @Obversechaos
      @Obversechaos Před 6 lety +3

      Space is incredibly big. The closest body to us, the moon, takes 2.5 days to reach travelling as fast as we possibly can. It would take over 300 days to reach Mars; and the furthest planet, Neptune, would take 12 years. The nearest star to us is over 81,000 years away. The chance of finding a potential earth-like planet is very low. You'd probably have to travel to thousands of ever further stars. Space is really really big.

    • @nobody5093
      @nobody5093 Před 6 lety +1

      well being immortal would help with the waiting part of that as you would be able to sleep through most of the waiting and the planet doesn't have to be earth like you just have to hope it's not already dead like mars or your going to be really bored. as if it's not earth like you might be able to slowly adapt to the environment.

    As a molecular biologist I have to say that aging is not necessarily caused by Telomere shortening. it’s rather a measurement system of your body how old you are. Aging is caused by a large set of complex physiological processes that lead to a more and more increased failure of repair processes in our cells. Telomeres are an indication for your age process but not the cause
