  • A Fuel Rail Pressure Relief Valve is a fairly simple part that can cause a host of problems on common rail diesel engines. If it’s time to replace you have two options; a stock replacement which will bleed off pressure at a predetermined amount, or a “race plug” which doesn’t. Typically, those running performance parts like a tuner, lift pump, larger injectors, etc. will opt for the plug. This means you: 2003 - Current 5.9L / 6.7L Cummins, 2001- Current 6.6L Duramax’s, and 2011 - Current 6.7L Powerstroke’s! If you have any questions let us know!

So what is the benefit of a “race plug”. Other than constant rail pressure? What is the the biggest problem with a consistent high pressure? It’s not a water heater or boiler that will shoot like a rocket. Will it harm the motor?

Now I know one more reason why common rail pumps crack.

Please exercise caution if purchasing from this store, as it is part of an AI generated network of stores selling drop-shipped products. The products may be priced higher than normal, be unfit for purpose and/or may not be shipped at all

Shouldn't be promoting these block off plugs. You know they aren't good for the fuel system.....

We've been selling race plugs for all types of HP levels and have NEVER had an issue or call back regarding pressure spikes. If a component in your fuel system can't handle that spike of pressure, it was going to fail any ways.

A "pressure relief valve" - used to relieve pressure. Block off a pressure relief valve - pressure has no where to go. Somethings gotta give.
Would you block off a pressure relief valve on a boiler or hot water heater? What could/would happen if you did?
Blocking off relief on a hugh pressure fuel system that has ~30,000psi of rail pressure = stupid.

I agree, you understand pressure dynamics. However, there is a difference to what happens on paper, and what happens in practice of such.
On paper, should it cause a huge problem all the time? Yes.
In practice, does it? No, not even a little.

      @@DieselPowerProducts That is just untrue.
Not trying to be a dick. I'd just suggest maybe putting a disclaimer in the video, warning people about the risk of using block off plugs in a hugh pressure fuel system. This is not something you just want to throw on your motor, not realizing what you are actually doing, and the potential risks. The video comes off as just a "hey, buy this!"

We've sold them to people who have installed them on stock trucks, higher horsepower trucks, and between. In my 10 years with this company and multiple thousands sold, not a single customer called back with an over pressurization issue.
I am not disagreeing with the principals of the fluid dynamics. I am however agreeing with real world experience.
This video is not a "HEY BUY THIS." It is a comparison between the two with visual aids. We sell both and believe in both. If you don't want to put the plug on, then go with a high-quality Bosch replacement. Want as much rail pressure as possible and to remove a common failure point, get the plug.
