"Reducing the risk of a less than optimal ammunition selection!" Kudos to the marketing team for that gem LOL
It pretty much removes the need for 3 different types of ammo, so thats a pretty big detail.
but adding risk of programming mistake and probably adding time to do that task
@blckbldng If other similar weapon systems are anything to go by, it would be very quick and probably preconfigurable for the gunner.
The main limiting factor would still how quickly a shell could physically be loaded, and if anything the AMP would make that go even quicker since the guy loading the gun wouldn't need to worry about grabbing the wrong type of shell.
@@blckbldngSo which part of choosing one of 3 buttons to push on a screen increases risk of “programming mistake”?
@@blckbldngPut yourself in the scenario of the Leopard tank this week in Ukraine. They fired a high explosive round rather than a sabot at a Russian tank as they were expecting enemy soldiers to appear. You cannot simply remove a round from the breech and replace it with a different round because NATO uses cellulose cases on the round and pulling one out of the breech may cause the end cap to come off which would release all the propellant into the turret. With the concept in the video the gunner simply selects armour piercing on a screen as all rounds have 3 functions.
The dispersion on airburst is phenomenal. 10/10 that's absolutely amazing
Tungsten is a hell of a drug.
I hope the M1147 lives up to its hype. The air burst feature is impressive.

Thats why its there
well germany is using a projectile like that since around 2014.
Its called DM11
And does the same thing as M1147.
M1147 is basicly the US variant of DM11, wich was developed upon that basis after germany transfered the technology for programmable ammunition for the Rheinmetall 120mm smoothbore, that is mounted in abrams.
Its pretty much a rip off of the same round the IDF uses in the merkava.
I was a Abrams M1A1 driver/loader. And I loved being the driver, hated being the loader. You couldn't hardly tell the difference between any of the shells so when your tank commander would all out "Loader, Mpap" or "Loader, Hdef" I'd just sit there for a few seconds trying to remember which was which because they always say the base plates would be different colors or stamped different but they never were. Hi there, I bought this about two weeks ago and I was wondering if you guys are planning to make a proximity version of this round. As of now I'm using the airburst setting on my AMP to shoot down mi-24s but it's still a bit finicky. I enjoy your product alot and it was at a relatively fair price. I even bought one for my wife! She uses it every day on her way to work (she works in Detroit haha).
Hopefully you can get back to me regarding the possibility of adding a proximity fuse
Thanks
- CrimsonCrisp
Hi Crimson, thanks for your message. Unfortunately we will not make a proximity version of this round. This is due to the fact that the proximity fuse will not fit inside of a round this small.
However, we might have a few new version coming out that might be of interest to you.
The first is the Infared/Heat seeking round the M1147-H1. This may be useful to you, as you are engaged in Warfare with them "finicky" Mil Mi-24P's.
The other is the nuclear-warhead version the M1147-BOOM, which might help your wife eliminate Detroit, as that is what we are assuming she might need. The M1147-BOOM has a blast radius of about 49,000 meters, which might be enough to rid america of the city.
I hope this helps with your concerns Crimson, and the Northrop Grumman team send their regards.

SATIRE
@@Bo-ei6nu Hi John, it's unfortunate that the rounds won't have a proximity feature in the future, as that was something that I was looking forward to purchasing once it was to be released.
With that being said, are you guys planning on making these rounds in larger and smaller calibre? Specifically in 30mm sizes for use on the M3A3 Bradley and perhaps some anti-aircraft cannons? I realized perhaps I won't need a proximity addition if they can come packaged for smaller calibre cannons specifically made for anti air. This can deal with both my mi-24 issue and my house sparrow issue simultaneously.
Please get back to me whenever possible, thanks.

Wish I had a 120mm to use some of this ammo next weekend.
I like how you can see that supersonic shock wave with larger projectiles. It’s really visible in the slower motion shots.
lol! This was made like a TV commercial. It practically makes you feel you can go down to Walmart and pick one of these up. :)
Wow, its the first time im seeing this new ammmnition, and by far has already superseded current tank ammo of any modern MBT. Amazing work, Northrop Grumman!
That airburst was pretty damn effective with a serious lethality cone of shrapnel. But you can see that tailfin assembly stays in one piece. That thing would slice and dice its way through infantry like a blender on steroids!
it looks impressive when fired at that incline, but what in flat country? When that ATGM team is sitting in a dry ditch, whats going to trigger the fuze? And how wille the shrapnell pattern look like?
Shrapnel pattern will be the same as it's coming from the same type of round. The detonation range is set when the round is loaded. Flat country or not dug in or not that shrapnel is gonna hit
@@unpaintedleadsyndrome that isn't going to change anything, shrapnel is shrapnel, if youre in a trench or a ditch in some shitty farmland, an airburst going off in front or on top of your position is going to create casualties.
that is how airbursts work, as in they explode in the air above and just in front of their target after setting the fuse to do so, so terrain doesnt effect the shrapnel's dispersion, how in the hell would firing this at a hill or in a plain alter the shrapnel pattern to you?...

At the end of the ad, all I wanted was to hear one of those super fast talkers reading out a disclaimer sheet!
My jaw dropped when I saw the amount of shrapnel the air burst option had.
more than the 1125 tungsten balls from the canister round.....
For those confused with survivability and lethality, by survivability, the shell is a mix of 3 other shells (HEAT, HE, and AP) meaning that it will take less space in the ammo stowage with the round serving 3 purposes, thereby reducing the chance of an ammo rack explosion (War Thunder vibes here). And lethality due to being a mix of 3 types of shells, reloading can be faster, more lead being sent to the enemy, and more armor and fortifications being blown off to pieces, oh and let's not forget that the shell can airburst, which is highly effective for light armor, infantry, and if a gunner is a crack shot, low flying aircraft.

@@StrongHarm I don’t remember that the americans used the F-35 against the modern air defense of the enemy. For example, the russian S-400 systems, these planes see well and they do not pose a threat to the Russian systems.
@@user-fr8op9hf7r Do some research concerning the F-35 and the S-400 (not from anti-U.S. Military CNN news). The highest concentration of S-400s on the planet is surrounding the Iranian Capital. Israel flew a pair of F-35s to the Capital undetected. Word has it they were not lit up on radar until they were within 10nm. Although dozens of S-400 radars lit them up, none were able to achieve a lock. The F-35 Adir's (Israeli name for the bird, it means "Great One") did a low-level pass over the palace. To add insult to injury, they did a second low level pass, and even though the S-400s were alert and ready, they still couldn't get a lock.
Russia hasn't made any strides in military equipment since the USSR. The T-14 Armada? It's propaganda. They had to tow it off Red Square when they tried to use it in a parade, and intel shows that the "leaked" capabilities were wildly exaggerated (which is nothing new.. see cold war). The Belgorod Submarine that CNN says will kill us all before it can be detected? That keel was laid down in 1984 and rusted for decades before they knocked the rust off and called it a "New Super Capable Submarine". We routinely follow their subs around the ocean, shadowing them within 100m for weeks, undetected. Our Sailors and Ships are 10 of 10, unmatched by far around the world, and their ships are 2 of 10 sailors 6 of 10 at best. I don't blame you for not knowing that though... our own media trashes us because they think we're spending the lunch money of our nation's children to build ships. It's gone beyond ignorance into madness. I served in the U.S. Military and saw the exceptionalism firsthand, and I was intimately familiar with enemy capabilities as part of my job, so I don't say these things lightly.
The Russians are smart though.. why spend all that money on arms competition when you can use counterintelligence to make your enemy *think* you have capable arms? Afterall, don't we live in the age of "deterrence" instead of action? That's what they did during the Cold War. After it was over and we purchased some of their equipment for study, we immediately uncovered just how good their counterintel was... utterly superb. They had us convinced from the start. Only problem with that is while they were wildly exaggerating their capabilities, we were creating equipment that could contend with those fairy tale capabilities.. which is why we're decades ahead of any nation. I postulate that the KGB can take more credit for American Military Exceptionalism than our Free-Market Capitalism and Scientific Aptitude, combined! LOL! Thanks Commies!
