    This is pretty cool. Another winconless way would be to play clock. Play cards that force your opponent to make decisions and play fast so they run out of time first.

    I don’t think academy ruins is a typical win condition I think of it as a more high synergy piece, which can be disrupted in multiple ways. Besides, you can win by not playing as many cards and decking them anyway, vintage is weird like that.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow Před rokem +4

      It does count as a win con though, looping the onering infinitely while not drawing card is just a really slow version of turbo fog.
      I would still classify it as a win condition aside from conceding, the evidence for this is that the one game he uses the ruins to loop the opponent has seen his entire deck, which means that looping the random artifacts was a win condition as harry had less card in deck than the opponents so would have lost without looping.

    I've seen a deck with...not the same idea, but you COULD do the same thing, in standard no less. Its just a bant control deck with Shigeki and Endless Detour to create an infinite loop of counterspells. There are no wincons (other than hitting with shigeki for 20 turns) other than the other guy decking out, but you can just Endless Detour one of their own cards, then counter it again. And again. And again. Until the heat death of the universe or the patience death of the poor soul.

    The reason control decks sometimes don’t run win cons is because they don’t do anything except close the game. I remember in like 2018 standard there was a control deck that looped Nexus of Fate and five mana Teferi tucking itself infinitely and that was considered winconless.

    • @JeguePerneta

  • @Megatron9000
    @Megatron9000 Před rokem

    Decking is a valid win con defined within the game's rules. So not truly "a no wincon deck," but given the deck's construction, it's normal to see opponents concede when they recognize the checkmate. I don't think they'd run out of time first which is the funny thing.

    • @makenshao9886
      @makenshao9886 Před rokem

      Yeah, I was thinking, don't some quite competitive decks before have won with this game plan of just recurring a single card so you don't deck out before you do but would rather see you concede once they got a lock? I guess my thought is that for it to be truly winconless the opponent should be able to win if they somehow have the patience of clicking skip every turn to try and get you with the fact you probably drew a lot of cards with like the one ring or burden damage etc.

    • @Megatron9000
      @Megatron9000 Před rokem

      @@makenshao9886 Teferi Hero was used specifically that way by a few players, with his -3! It lets you play him then put him on top of your empty deck for the redraw.
      I think the only change the deck in the video needs to be truly wincon-less is the removal of that sort of effect lol (Academy Ruins I think was the only one). Of course that would make it worse!

    I say that the Ruins is a not-lose condition card. If your opponent doesn't have a way to refill their library or is only playing 60 cards, that's their problem not yours.

    • @zym6687
      @zym6687 Před rokem

      Exactly, you cant win the game by not losing, if your opponent happens to lose the game in the meantime that's not because of anything the Academy did.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow Před rokem

      That no different than saying a mill deck isnt a win condition. Considering the fact the game we see where he uses ruins to loop the opponent has seen his entire deck, academy ruins is a win con or the opponent wouldnt concede.

    • @zym6687
      @zym6687 Před rokem

      @@XenithShadow Big difference to a mill wincon is forcing your opponent out of cards. Academy is just stopping you from running out of cards and losing. It does nothing to force the opponent to run out of cards. An unanswered academy doesn't even do anything to accelerate the end of the game and cant even interact with the opponent.
      The win condition is the opponents deck construction and that's not part of your deck. The academy loops are not a win-con its a not-losing-con as doing the loop does nothing to bring your opponent closer to losing, only delays your own otherwise inevitable loss.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow Před rokem

      @@zym6687 Just cause its such a bad win con the opponent conceded, doesn't stop it being a wincon. The ability to no longer deck out is a win condition.
      If the deck actually had no win con the opponent would have won, since a deck without win con's by definition cannot win unless the opponent concede. The opponent how ever did concede due to seeing the ruins loop.

    Academy Ryins is a wincon o ly in the most abstract sense. Pro-everything from the ring is not a hard lock, you can get around it with lifeloss etc. Elixer of Immortality is not a wincon so this isn't either.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow Před rokem

      Win condition is lock opponent out of playing the game then loop artifacts until your opponent decks. Its a slow win con but still the opponent conceded specifically because they were going to be decked out in 35 turns.
      So the ruins ability to prevent harry from decking out is a win condition as the opponent would not have concede the game without the card.

    Academy does nothing to cause you to win the game just prevent you from losing the game, whether the opponent decks themselves in the meantime is irrelevant to its purpose of preventing you from losing, which at that point just call every card in the deck a wincon.

    Nah nah nah nah nah that was not cheated. Wincondition means a card or set of cards who are designt to win you the game. Ring + Academy ruins was not an intendet pick to kill. It was just a tool for recycling in case you enter the grind game that saved you the game in this SPECIFIC situation. It could have been outplayed by an alternative win condition like thassa oracle or other cards that seriously poop on the fact you had protection in this case. This was not a win condition at all xD

    Yes you cheated according to your stipulation. No you did not cheat because decking your opponent by resetting your library more than them is the adequate amount of concession for a pure control deck to the corner case of your opponent not conceding. It is not about winning or losing, it is about putting your opponent on tilt.
