    I own this, best chair I have owned hands down. Doesn't even come close to a "gaming chair" you spend 200-500 on. This is in another league. 1500 price tag is big deal. I spend 80% of my time in a chair like this now that i work from home, so it was time I spent the money where it counted. My back pain is 100% gone. I get some neck pain but thats a monitor location issue im working on. If i didn't sit in it 80% of the day, i would have gone with a cheaper model i think, but so far well worth the money.

    • @A_Gris
      @A_Gris Před 3 lety

      Considering buying one as well, do you have the noise issue seen at 4:57? It seems a lot of reviews I've seen make no mention of all this creaking, and I haven't heard it in the background of any hands on videos, but that sound would drive me insane as someone who exclusively uses open back headphones.

    • @kargion
      @kargion Před 3 lety +1

      @@A_Gris Top part does make a sound. I use open back headphones too and don't notice it but my chair is setup pretty stiff. Even with headphones off I don't notice it much. I have 2 kids though, so sounds that bother me have changed lol The sound is not as loud as in this video. It's like a stretching sound...it's a sound you would expect from the movement your doing.

    • @bigrgIIb

      Hey, Do you agree with Mike Wat that you cannot sit straight properly on it ? and that there is a lack of support when siting straight ?

    • @A_Gris
      @A_Gris Před 3 lety +7

      @@bigrgIIb I just received mine last week, and maybe I'm not sitting up straight enough but even if I sit up as straight as I could imagine myself getting without bending into an uncomfortable position, I can not get an entire arm behind myself like he could, and I do still feel like the back of the chair is making full contact. This is of course going to vary person to person though as the curve itself of the Embody isn't adjustable. I think this is definitely an area where it's going to be subjective, and you may want to look for an authorized dealer near you to see if they have a floor model you could sit in to try the chair. Otherwise you can always order the chair and return it within 30 days if you find it uncomfortable for you. For me personally this is a massive upgrade from my last chair and I'm pretty in love with it.
      My only other thing to note is I'm not sure if Mike's chair is a particularly bad example, but while the squeaking for deal breaker 2 in this video does exist on all of these chairs due to the upholstery rubbing against the foam support, I find that it is not as loud as demonstrated for mine. This could just be an issue with the audio mixing and the recorded audio of the squeaking being louder than it needs to be, but I find that I don't really notice it unless I'm making very large, exaggerated positional changes. The sound is more or less non-existent in normal operation.

    • @kargion
      @kargion Před 3 lety +1

      @@bigrgIIb You can adjust it so the back pushes you pretty far forward. I have mine really stiff. Now there is a slight minor rock back that is probably what they are talking about with sitting straight. It is not enough to be an issue though.

    what you absolutely have to say about it, you have to give the chair some time. the chair forces you into a healthy sitting position and you don't slouch in it. i noticed that i had some back muscle pain after sitting for 8 hours, but that was only because i didn't sit healthy earlier. after about two weeks it gets better and you can sit pain free for 10-12 hours. so absolutely good the chair

    The Herman Miller Embody chair is a life saver if you have neck, back, and/or tailbone pain. Buy the original if squeaking bothers you. I think it's the padding Logitech added. My original, non-Logitech version doesn't have this padding (just fabric and the stretchy plastic mesh), and it makes no noise. You'd think, "how could no padding/plastic _possibly_ be comfortable?" ...but lemme tell ya, it's fantastic! I'm super picky, and before this chair, everything hurt after sitting in front of a computer 8+ hours a day. Since I've had the Embody, no pain.
    One thing Mike points out--and this is so true--you shouldn't try to sit perfectly perpendicular. If you want that, you should avoid this chair. It's meant to lean back in, at least a little. I keep the recline depth at 3 (out of the 4 stops it allows). Also, you _really_ need to push your butt/lower back ALL THE WAY BACK so it's touching the back of the seat so it can support you. If I don't, I get crazy burning in my lower back after 30-45 minutes, but that's mostly MY back and poor posture, not the chair's fault.
    If you do all that, and you're a lean back/sloucher like me, dear God this chair is comfortable. I've been in IT for 20+ years and have tried every fancy, schmancy office chair you can imagine. The Aeron? Pfft! I know some people love it, but I can't stand it. The Aeron seat has a bar just behind the knees, and it HURTS after 1-2 hours, something you might not notice after only sitting for a few minutes in the store. The Embody? It's like sitting on a cloud all day.

      @@frederickthethird5302 At first I had my mind set on one of their fancy fabrics, but I settled for the Rhythm--which has held up great; *no* complaints here. However, the kind lady at the Herman Miller reseller (who, BTW, mostly sold commercial office furniture in bulk to businesses, but didn't have a problem selling to individuals) told me that they have "pre-configured" models of popular Embody chairs that they can sale for **much** cheaper. They can usually customize the basic *color* of the fabric and frame, but if you want fancy fabrics, colors you might not find if offices, or other options... well, they're gonna charge you full price of $1500, plus your "upgrades."
      The base model was Good Enough for me and only cost me ~$950 (including tax). This was 4-5 years ago, but their current pricing on the website looks exactly the same.

    That's the thing about mesh fabric - and that's why I ALWAYS prefer it in any product as possible (chair, shoes, etc) - It's easier to maintain, it doesn't wear off easily, it's very convenient, and if well-taken care of, it's technically immortal. Unlike the fake "premium" leatherette that you always see in any other gaming chair.

    Love the video! You hit a lot of great points :). For my two cents, I had the Aeron classic and remastered, the Leap V2, the Ergo Chair 2, a secret lab chair, and presently I am using the Logitech Embody. Long story short, the price is WAAAAY up there, if you really want it, you MIGHT get lucky with a sale in the future where it was brought down to $1,100 (Still a yikes!). I kept this chair because all the other chairs ended up hurting my back - I would get aches throughout the day (I sit 9hours for work and then game and watch videos for another 6 hours everyday). I ended up keeping this chair because my back pains are no more with it! The aeron remastered was great for those who are deciding between the two - but absolutely take advantage of the 30 day return period - the aeron began hurting my back week 2 and by week 3, I just had a ton of aches no matter how I adjusted it. You can also ask for a lower gas cylinder for the aeron if you need that - it lowers the chair 1.75in in case you need a lower chair!

    Also the seat is very very comfortable, it’s not soft, nor is it hard, I really love it .
    The backrest is something I still need to get used to. I vary the position every day and I have the feeling my back is slowing adjusting to it.
    I can work upright and it’s nice, but there’s the gap you mentioned on middle part of the back. But still it works fine, but after a while I use another setting :-)
    I‘ve gone through all chairs before buying this one. The Aeron is a no because it doesn’t allow freedom of movement. The leap and gesture are more like foam chairs that might be comfortable, but I like that woven plastic concept, it just feels right. Also Steelcase doesn’t offer 12 years of warranty.

      Sitting at about 110° is healthier for the spinal cord, especially to reduce pressure on its discs, than sighting at a 90° angle. There's research that supports this that's already more than five decades old. You can look it up and confirm this, of course. And it's recommended that you use a slightly tilted footrest with such a sitting posture.
      I hasten to add that this does NOT mean that if you have a wooden chair with a back that's fixed at a 90° angle, then you should slide forward to recline; this would be worse than sitting at a 90° angle. And slouching forward is much worse than sitting at a 90° angle.

    I got the aeron but ended up returning it and getting the steelcase leap instead. The aeron has some nice pros like the seamless reclining feature and great armrest but some of the premium upgrade for the aeron was not work it. The sl posture back support actually didn't give me any back support at all and you have to pay extra to tilt the armrest inward. The steelcase leap has a great back support and. You can adjust the tension to your liking. The reclining of the leap is not as smooth as the aeron but it's still great

    I highly recommend everyone to go try out these chairs before buying! I found a place nearby so I went to try out the embody and the Aeron. To my disappointment the embody felt terrible on my back and the aeron wasn’t as amazing as some people say. But what I did find was the Mirra 2 which felt amazing. I like the mirra 2’s back support because you can adjust the height and tension. This allowed for better mid back support which is where most of my pain is at. I also prefer the stiffer feel of the chair because it feels like it keeps my posture correct.

      Let me tell you my experience. I own a Humanscale Freedom Headrest chair for over 8 years. While the mechanic part of these expensive chairs will hold up over time, the seat cushioning simply doesn't. Yesterday, I've finally replaced the cushioning (seat-, back- and headrest) and arm pads of my chair. The foam in the seat was becoming to soft. So much to the point that it wasn't comfortable anymore. Also the armpads were cracked. These were the standard Duron pads which are very stiff and over time the material becomes brittle and simply cracks.
      About getting replacement parts. Because nobody thinks about that when buying an expensive chair and the reviews also never really get into that. But it is important to consider. For me living in Europe it was a long and expensive process to get my replacement parts. I also had to replace the back- and headrest because the original fabric wasn't available anymore, which is understandable after 8 years. But again, you don't think about that when buying this chair. All in all I wouldn't be to bummed about it if these companies provided an easy way to order these replacement parts online, but that is not the case. I've had to track down a sales manager from Humanscale Europe and after waiting and sending emails and waiting again, it eventually took them several months before finally yesterday my replacement parts were delivered.
      Why is it that you can't find any reviews of these chairs after 5+ years of usage... Now, I know why. To be honest, I love my Humanscale chair. It is a good chair. But after going through all this hassle I don't think I'm going to do it again in 8 years... Hopefully by then they've joined present times and have a decent online shop ;)

      Yep, I decided to buy a big-boy ergo chair when I realized that I was buying a new $150-200 office chair every couple of years as they broke. For a similar price per year, why not get a better, more comfortable chair that is guaranteed to last? And if you can't afford the upfront cost, there are tons of used office furniture stores that will sell you old Steelcase or Herman Miller chairs for a few hundred dollars. Sure beats a no-name "gaming" chair.

It has a 12 year warrenty, so divide the price by its warrenty to compare to other chairs. If you pay $200 and the chair last a year, its cost you double that of an Embody. People keep saying its expensive, yet there happy to pay and replace their product every 1-2 years. That is so bad for the enviroment. A chair lasting 15 years is amazing, and to be fair its still going.

    In regards to the downside of sitting though - I've tried sitting straight using ergo supports (lumbar backrest ones) and just sitting naturally (even if it's not straight) and honestly, sitting straight would never be possible UNLESS you really have trained yourself sitting straight for the longest time (those in the army would have a big advantage here). That kind of relaxed, natural sitting is way more comfy than really trying to sit straight all day.

    • @ooogyman
      @ooogyman Před 3 lety

      People really shouldn't be sitting completely straight at all; you want to lean a little back so the back rest can support some weight.
      But the real problem is sitting in any one static position for too long, period. So a good chair should have a tilt with variable resistance so you can vary your back position while your posture remains ergonomically sound.

    The Herman Miller Mirra 2 is a very, very good chair, and costs a lot less than this last I checked (about 600 USD, depending on the options you choose with it). I actually think that the price to value ratio of the Mirra 2 is actually extremely high, and if this chair lives up to the quality and comfort I've experienced with my Mirra, then I would say that this chair probably actually IS a good value, even at 1500, at least relative to most other office/ gaming chairs out there.
    Chairs which cost like 200-400 bucks (or more) often still wear out within 5-10 years (if not less than that). Herman Miller chairs have a 12 year TRANSFERABLE warranty. That means the warranty is still good even if you buy one used (this also keeps the resale value high). That shows that they really stand by their products. Also, with Herman Miller chairs, you can get individual parts repaired or replaced even after the warranty is over, and this can allow the chair to last potentially for multiple decades. I've been using an original Mirra (which is basically less adjustable than the Mirra 2 but otherwise the same), for 4 years, and it was already about 9 years old when I first bought it. It is AMAZINGLY comfortable, and I find that I get significantly less back pain since I started using it, even though I'm only getting older, and if anything, you'd think that my back pain would be getting worse, not better. I'm a very tall guy, and I weigh about 220 lbs, and I practically live in this chair, so it's definitely a very durable product. That being said, it looks like I probably will need to be getting the seat resurfaced in a year or so, but it will be totally worth it.
    So, after the first 12 years, you will likely have to put more money into the chair periodically for repairs, but the overall cost per decade of use is probably lower than a lot of cheaper chairs, and you're still getting something which is far more comfortable, and better for your HEALTH. Once you factor in the health benefits, I think it's safe to say that this chair is actually going to save you more money than most other chairs out there. I assume that there are some other good quality chairs out there with good warranties, or at least which are not difficult to repair and maintain, but the Mirra (discontinued) and Mirra 2 by Herman Miller are, in my opinion, the best value per dollar chairs that money can buy, it's just a big investment up-front. This Embody X seems overpriced to me, because I don't know if there's much about it that's significantly better than a Mirra 2, however, I would still consider even this chair to be a good value compared to all the crap out there which usually isn't as comfortable / adjustable, doesn't have a significant warranty, doesn't look as cool, and which are, in many cases, next to impossible to actually repair properly when the parts start wearing out.

      @Neo Anderson of all the chairs out there it was rated as the most adjustable. I'm 5'5" and most chairs out there don't fit me that well, this one fits me like a glove. Embody was definitely one of my other top picks, but the creaking turned me off. Because I couldn't sit in one before buying, I just went with the chair that was overall highest rated. With Herman Miller chairs it was always highly rated in one area but a compromise in other areas, whereas the leap was highly rated in all areas but not as high in one specialty area like a a Herman Miller chair. Another reason I went with the leap is because how the Embody arms work are not nearly as adjustable as the steelcase leap v2. It's taken me about a week to get used to sitting in this chair, now that I've got it dialed in, I can sit in this chair for 8-12 hours in a day and I'm perfectly fine.

    Mike, I am currently sitting in my Embody Logitech chair as I am typing this. First thing I want to ask you is did you have any tailbone pain when you sat in this chair? My biggest complaint with this chair is that I am getting tailbone pain from it. I am very very confused on why I am getting such pain when I sat in an Embody in a store and sat for an hour on it talking to the sales rep. I completely forgot that I was sitting on it and it felt amazing to sit in and even sat with one of my legs resting on the opposite knee. No pain at all. The gaming version however, gives me tailbone pain as stated. I am thinking about exchanging this gaming version to a regular Embody, the Aeron, or a Steelcase. Funnily enough, my back pain isn't a problem anymore but the tailbone pain is really confusing me when I sat in the regular Embody. Any thoughts on this?
