Egg in a Bottle description of experiment:
1 Timing is the key to getting the egg inside the bottle successfully. Light a match and drop it swiftly into the bottle's bottom. The match should continue to burn. If it burns out, replace it with another lighted match.
2 Count to three and place the egg, pointy side down, on top of the bottle to seal the entrance.
3 Wait. The egg will begin to leak down into the bottle after a few seconds.
What’s.Happening?
The heat from the burning match causes the air in the bottle to expand. When you set the egg on top of the bottle, the oxygen burns up, and the match goes out. The air inside the bottle cools and contracts, resulting in a substantially lower air pressure than outside the bottle. The egg is pushed into the container by the air outside.
