High Crankcase Pressure DD13/DD15/DD16 (Relative Cylinder Compression Test)

    In this video, I cover procedures on conducting a relative cylinder compression test for a DD13. Whenever high crankcase pressure is suspected this test can confirm if compression is being lost. This test is the same for DD13, DD15, and DD16. High crankcase pressure can be caused by multiple items, such as worn-out cylinder liner, postin ring, loose injector hold-down bolt, valve, or jakes out of adjustment. If you are troubleshooting an engine with high crankcase pressure than this test is good to conduct to ensure all cylinders are working correctly. A DD13/DD15/DD16 with high crankcase pressure can cause oil leaks and low power.

    I’m having nightmare with my truck. Took it to shop more than 5 times with same issues. It’s 2017 cascadia dd13 402k miles. Truck ain’t got power and getting 6.13 - 6.33mpg . My load will be always less than 29k. And top speed I go is 67mph. Did tune up, pressure test and everything it needs. I’m still having power issue and burning lot of fuel

    I have dd15 2014 freightliner Cascadia I have a tick in the motor you hear when cold and oil pressure is 100 psi when starting and then idles down to about 60-65 psi and when driving it comes and goes but when it comes it feels like it wants to cut off do have any idea of what it could be

    I have a Cummins just had my motor rebuild needed new block and now have high crank case pressure can hear the air after plugging valve cover outlet. They said might be the turbo if not they gonna have pull head off again.

    Hey boss... I have this code on my truck spn1328 fmi 31... injector 6 has been changed but still getting this code... I have noticed that this is showing with the engine cold... never show up with the truck hot or running on a highway. Any suggestions boss?

    Good morning. I have a 2011 Columbia dd15. Driving down the interstate at about 70mph. Loss power looked on passenger side and saw oil from crankcase breather all the way back to the back of the truck. No warning. Truck would not start. Starter wet with oil. Able to bump it over but not enough battery. What would cause engine to shut down, no alarm or warning engine temperature was high too

    Hello there sir. Thank you first of all for your very helpful videos. Question I have a 2012 DD15, I just noticed that I’ve been getting quite a bit of crankcase pressure through the oil cap(hopefully I’m explaining myself). Engine has a little over 1 million miles, now even though I see the pressure my coolant still perfect without any signs of oil. Can you kinda point me to what it could be? Would a cracked liner give me oil in the coolant?? Thank you sir.

    Great video , I have an issue with my freightliner m2 106 2010 . Check engine light on to much pressure on crank case and consuming oil. Just had pistons replaced but problem remain ? What could be the issue ?

    DD13 def deleted showing solid yellow engine warning and cutting engine off. Will restart and run for a a few miles before cutting off again. A couple shops and they can't figure out what's wrong. Any ideas?

    I have 2011 Cascadia with DD15 replaced crankcase breather recently won’t crank at all if I shut of but I can jump start if someone pulls me out

      If the starter is not engaging, then I would recommend troubleshooting the starting system.

      WH, we have a very professional and experienced team. Repairs done the first time correctly may not be cheap, but a cheap repair is only sometimes affordable.

      @@TATEXPRESSINC good afternoon I have a Cascadia with a DD15 with 800,000 miles the engine was leaking oil through the Crankcase Filter but a lot .. I replaced the filter and kept doing it but only on the climbs and very heavy when the trailer is empty it does not drop anything oil ... a workshop already removed the oil pan and checked the piston liners and you can't see a single scratch the compression test that you do in this video they did it to me and it's fine ... they want to change the turbo say that it may be that it is putting pressure to the engine by the oil return ... the engine does not show any symptoms of wear does not lose strength does not have faults does not burn any oil between oil changes ... you think that the turbo can be the cause? any recommendation I would appreciate thank you

    Good morning I had a 2016 cascadia Dyno’d dd15 engine 356,000 miles they said that it has 404 horse power with 3.4 blow by is that good or bad I’m not understanding the blow by scale they said the engine is healthy

    Nice man 👌 our dealership also owns a fleet of stock trucks with a dd15s .. did this a month ago on one and got 50% on number 3... Ol mate was loaded with a B-double of cattle so had to get goin but hasn't come back yet 😳🤔 lol

    Hey i have a dd15 after 6k miles oil starts to turn reddish, i have taken it to 4 shops and no one can find out the problem!!!

      El nonote, is the oil level rising? If so, than I would recommend a oil sample be conducted.

    On a DD15 over head valves is the feeler gauge .016 and the Exhaust .024

    Hi Adam, need some help.
    Trying to do a :
    Relative Cylinder Compression Test
    Using DDDL 8.9
    After complying with caution warning ⚠️
    The test log gives the following error:
    User aknowledged caution
    Engine is running in Compression Test Mode(NRC$1)
    The Automatic Compression Test service routine failed to run.
    Any ideas?

      Tried to
      1.swich key on/off/on
      2.Engage transmission then put it back to neutral
      3. Release then set back parking brakes
      Not working
      PS Truck was cold(do I need to warm it up?)

      Alex, be sure you are selecting relative compression test. Its not automatic compression test. Yes, running at temp will give you better readings.

      Hi, figured it out.

      Something with either software or the filter's drivers, reinstalled them and it worked like a charm.
      53% compression though in cylinder 3
      Seems to me that it will need an overhaul.
      Some white smoke and excessive oil out of crankcase breather.

      Be sure to run through trouble shooting before condemning engine. Depending on mileage as well. Valve train or loose injector hold down bolt can cause low compression and high crank pressure

    Question, i have a 2015 Dd15 approx 540k miles just recently i started noticing some black spots real minimal thinking it was oil i sent it in to Freightliner they did there test compression test and they stated it was Burnt Down Coolant. Is that the cause of it ?

      TAT Express Inc. Negative ! I did a Oil sample on coolant before i purchased it .. no oil but it did state the test was cloudy so they changed the reservoir for me but im sure they didn’t do a proper flush ...

    I own a dd15. Ever since I bought it it's been giving me bad fuel mileage. And no power on hills. The previous owner deleted DEF, Regen and ERG. Could this be the cause of all this?

      Roberto, we see a lot of engines with low power due to bad deletes. Have you do the compression test?

      Roberto, we can definitely help. A compression test will give us a idea of the condition of engine. If compression is good we can test fuel system and check for boost leaks.
