Hey my 2018 Peterbilt 389 x 15 started loosing prime but cycling key is not priming it it will randomly start taking couple of hrs but it does start and don't seem to matter if key is cycled. Relief valve had very little fuel come out when I checked it
Hi Ryan! Nice to see u again. Really appreciate and thanks for your time.
You are welcome! đ
Always enjoy your content Ryan. Informative and educational.
Awesome video Ryan!
Thank you!
Thanks For the Info man!!. đđđđ
You are very welcome!
Thanks Ryan good video saludos de cuba
Helpful
Very impressive with your knowledge, itâs technician like you that go the xtra mile to solve the problem. Unlike todays that just keep replacing parts. Your knowledge is gratefully appreciated ty
Thank you! đ
Alot of techs are forced to work this way. No one wants to wait for any real diagnostic time, always got someone rushing you and shit. Trust me we would all rather take the needed time to diagnose the problem right the first time, just isnt always feasible.
People think we plug in a computer and it tells us what to change and they don't want to pay for diagnostic so if they don't wanna pay for a diagnostic they're gonna get the parts cannon and rightfully so. You're gonna respect and pay for my knowledge, or you're gonna pay for the quick educated guess and parts cannon dice roll. Were not fucking dumb parts changers, customers are just cheap.
Man, you are smart!
Thanks
Thanks Ryan
You are welcome!
I worked at Iowa 80 as a service technician and I wish you were the guy that taught me how to diagnose and fix any problems instead of the guy I ended up with. Great work.
Thank you! Good luck!
Trust me back then this was him!
Great info
Thank you!
I'm far from mechanic, but been driving for about 26 years and with these new engines, there's one thing I know for sure, and that's DO NOT IDLE THIS THINGS!That's when that ash builds up the most and kills the aftertreatment and it is not good for the engine itself, no matter wich make.Nice video and I never had a good luck with Cummins. I think it's a big gamble, like 50/50 win or loseđ
It's tough not to Idle when it's 115 degrees in pheonix but.after all summer running the southwest I know it's my Idle hrs that increased my soot loads that have wrecked havoc on my turbo actuator the tirbo and various sencors. Almost mandatory to have an apu if you truck in thos climares.
â@johnherr158 DUH that's why they make APUs not only for the summer but more so for the winter
Good video thank Ryan
Thatâs a great way to isolate the cylinder of concern.
I am pleased with Cummins Insite for the cutout test
Thanks for share this important information, I would like to know if was a turbo failure how to check??
Thanks for this video! This would probably still apply to an ISX 12 right?
Hey Ryan! Good to see you, hopefully we will cross paths again soon!
Thank you!
Wahooo I have the OTR and I think the pressure on mine is like 7 or 8. Iâll double check that ASAP!!!
Question for you, I have a pdi tuner and when I run a regen it causes high crank pressure light to come on and blow by kicks up a lot from normal! 2019 x15 engine
Hello watched your videos. Have a question about my injector. Iâve been getting check engine lights because of fault code 1143 which is Injector solenoid 4 mechanical system not responding or out of adjustment. That injector has been replace twice but still gives me check engine light. Trucks runs just fine and not derating. Any ideas of what that might be thanks so much
Hi how do you check turbo seal ? I have high blow by coming from oil dip stick when it out it to regen and pressure in coolant tank
Please do more software walk through videos. Thanks.
What did you do when you checked the turbo?
Thanks for the technical videos! Would you do the overhaul or contract it out?
You are welcome! Waiting for customerâs decision. I will be doing the repair either way.
What should the pressure psi be at normal operation?
Kinda git the same thing going on. Will the otr adapter work with cummins insight?
I had an excess blowby issue at 675k miles on my isx powered t680. Visible exhaust out of the stack and blowby from the oil fill tube. I had an overhead performed and it fixed the issue. I doubt it was ever done before I purchased the truck. Sometimes itâs the little things that help
Yes, if camshaft is good
This might help with the blowby.
This is one of the first things i do, check
For wearable marks on the cam
Old ISX15 blowby filters are serviceable
When plugged it can damage certain components like turbo, seals etc
500,000 miles run the overhead. But I really don't think a valve adjustment cured excessive crankcase pressure
I just rebuilt my isx15 I had changed that pressure sensor about just under a year ago. I sure hope it's the sensor again. I did a non replacing crank filter but heard there's no such thing
Can a bad crankcase filter or high pressure cause a slight vibration in engine?
I have worked at a KW dealership for 25 years I had to laugh about 7 years ago when we sent a truck to Cummins for a dyno run they sent it back and said it needed 6 cylinder kits because it didn't have enough blow by I can honestly say that was the first engine that I have ever rebuilt for not enough blow by. But as it turned out that was when they were having problems with carbon packing and they came out with the new anti polishing liners
literally seen the same exact problem on the same engine last week in the shop. came in for high crankcase pressure took the head off cylinder 6 piston ring broke
HEY ryan on the kenworth cx15 semi 370 gear ratio we hauling gravel with dump trailer truck is t880 2021 this thing is super slow pulling the load an going up small hills can this truck be turned up.
Can you do a video on the difference between an x15 and an IX15?
There is a lot of bad information in this video. First off, the type of oil did not cause the failure, all diesel oil generally meets most oem specifications nowadays and high detergent oils do not cause engine failures. Next you are just shotgunning parts left and right first off how you jump to cleaning the dpf and reinstalling it without doing a snap test and verifying if there is anything wrong with the engine causing it to be plugged. Next, just throwing a sensor and filter at it is pretty hacky; you can bypass both those with a water manometer and verify if they are the issue. When doing the cut out test you want the engine to be up to operating temp. You were doing it at 124 degrees coolant temp . Next you need to do it under load when cylinder pressure is at its highest to get an accurate test. I wouldn't pull apart an engine for 1.0inh20 change. Lastly if you find there is blowby pull the injectors, leak it down and bore scope prove its bad don't guess this is why mechanics get a bad name
Hmmm Iâll just take it to the dealer and have the warranty company sort it out and get my engine fixed lol. All kidding aside, that was a good comment you left behind and hopefully the poster saw it as good feedback for future videos.
Good information, what is your phone number and name so you can look at my truck sir.?
Yea and if you take it to a dealer that's what they will probably do. But he isn't making videos to train shop mechanics he is making this so owners know where to start and that's probably the cheapest place first. If it were the crank case filter or the pressure sensor a driver would save himself over a grand probably vs the steps you suggested.
I just had code for high crankcase pressure. I replaced crankcase filter, shit I pulled it out and it was soaked and heavy with oil. Checked breather tube for restrictions. Cleared code and issue hasn't returned. That was 3 wks ago.
Oil type 100% has something to do with it in cold weather. Your wrong there
I dont have a check engine light for crankcase pressure, but a bit of smoke comes out of the breather tube in the front. I thought these engines dont do that.
I have a ISC 8.3L crank case pressure faults, 555, 556. Checked the sensor all good no issues there. Took it on a road test under load, in the lower gears manometer was at 40inHG, in gears 5 and up it fluctuated 15-25inHG. Service manager wants to do complete overhaul. With that much blowby should a complete overhaul be done or should I do the cylinder cutout test. To isolate what cylinder it could be?
If you have distinct puffing coming out of the crankcase it would be a indication of 1 cylinder but if it is just a heavy flow then the engine should be overhauled may have been dusted look at the inlet impeller on the turbo
My Volvo d12d fitted new ring but the crankcase pressure is high
In your diag you mentioned 900 psi test for the compressor. Is that correct. The old school guy.
Please keep us updated on this truck
Will do!
@@truckingandfixing Are the compressor o-rings updated? Pull the air compressor line off of the turbo compressor housing and check for dusting! There are updated o-rings for that hard line, they should be orange not black!
If you can rebuild an X15 for 16k you'll be a busy man. Mine just got rebuilt because of the same symptoms of your engine. The rings on #6 were cracked at 298,000 miles. Cummins covered 60% of parts and labor, it still cost me 34k.
16k include labor and parts, without any maching, head work or injectors
đČ
â@@truckingandfixing
I've watched enough CZcams videos of the ISX in the past few years that I would not want to rebuild one without ensuring that the liner protrusion is 0.014".
I may even just want to have counterbores cut just to ensure they are square and no ridges.
How many life of breather filter in x15 external breather
Great video! Is there a type of oil you recommend? I use Rotella T4.
I made a short video to answer your questions in details! It will be released later today, hope it helps! Thanks for the comment!
@@truckingandfixing awesome Ryan thank you.. đ
The old timers I worked with always told me to let sleeping dogs lie. Sucks for the owner. I hope parts are available, that might be the deciding factor right there.
How many miles are on the truck considering it's the x15 in a kw990 I can't imagine it having much more than 500,000 MI that's either some pretty s***** luck or the x-15 is going to continue the ISX hit or miss reliability reputation.
I get high crankcase pressure when I pull hard then it wants to shut it down. I idle it along to where it's inactive plug in, delete the code and go again but I use some recycled oil for a year and a half against my better judgment then went back to my rotello. Still fighting the problem. Will be plugging in these things are eating injectors another subject for another day
I'm having high crank case pressure on a yanmar and want to check the turbo for pushing back through the return what is the process for that?
Remove the turbo oil drain tube from draining into the engine. Let the tube drain into a bucket and plug the drain back fitting on the block, then run your test, this removes the turbo from the crankcase temporairily while you test
Single costly issues like these in trucking and being an O/O is what piss me off the most and just makes me want to hang it up and say the hell with truckingâŠ..smh itâs insane how mechanics want to charge ridiculous amounts of money to do these jobs also. Like bro do you think Iâm just pulling money out my hatâŠ.smfh đđ€Šđ»ââïž
Hi Ryan, what would you typically see crankcase pressure at in a strong running engine?
Really good question. Something I would love to know the answer too. Hopefully Ryan can answer this. What numbers constitute high crankcase pressure. 3 inches of mercury 4? 5? Does it depend if itâs idling, under load. Iâve done a search online and canât find the answer would be really interesting to know
I will make a short video to answer your question in details! Stay tuned!
I will make a video about this question! Thanks đ
@@truckingandfixing thanks Ryanđđœ
He has no clue đ
How many miles on that pile
Cylinder cut out and watching crankcase pressure head not occurred to me that's a good idea
Hi there. Do you know if the crankcase breather filter is washable, or I need to buy a new one? That is for Cummins x15. Thank you so much!
It is not washable
It is not washable
Hi Ryan . Just luv ur videos man . U doing grt wrk. I hav quick questions if u can help I have 2020 Cummins x15 in my truck. Can you suggest some computer or scan devices which can clear the codes and able to force regen The truck . This could save o/o from towing expenses. Take care man
Hi there, thank you! I would suggest OTR performance, a great tool I recommend people to get. It is designed for owner operators. It can scan codes, clear codes, forced regen, and clear derate. You can use road3333 promo code to save $100.
@@truckingandfixing thank you for the reply man. Can you suggest any place or website Whr I can find or any model number of the device

@@truckingandfixing thank you đ
At one time Cummins spec on blow-by, or crankcase pressure, was anything over 3.0 in H2o, was cause for concern. I wouldn't tear into an engine for that alone, I would want some excessive oil consumption to be present too.
Of all the engine OEMs, would you say Cummins is having the most issues lately or someone else?
PACCAR, always!!
Mx13 đŻ
Hi Ryan what do you charge for hourly rate if I were to bring my truck for service.
Here is the link to our rate! www.foxtruckandtractor.com/our-rates
But we will increase the rate soon due to the inflation.
Will someone please answer this question for me white powdery stuff coming from my exhaust Cummings isx 525hp
Was it your def dozer?
Anytime you have high blow by and you suspect the engine isnât wore out you always check the overhead. Thatâs basic diag
inches in mercury? explain to me why does it say H20?
đąđąđą I hope this isn't my issue but I believe it is
đđđđđđđđđđđđđđ
How many miles on this engine
Hey I have a 2010 international with a cummins isx 525hp... recently I changed the gasket because It was pushing coolant through the reservoir, before i did that it had blowby kind of alot but the mechanic didn't saying anything when he was finish changing the gasket now it has alot blow by but also leaks oil by the breather tube what can be the cause of these ? Maybe ring as well but I'm assuming the mechanic would of told me when be replaced the head gasket?
Engine problems maybe need Rebuild putting new air compresor. Start for the lowest prices
@@panchovillaz8004 I actually first changed the air compressor the coolant proble went down a little but still pushed coolant that's why I did the head gasket. After I did the gasket the coolant stop but now it spit oil through the crankcase breather.
â@@mll809 what was the problem? Did you ever figure it out?
â@@gregburgess6884the first problem was me using a backyard mechanic ..lol ... I end up doing an overhaul (with a different mechanic and actual one đ)
â@@gregburgess6884 i will try to make the story as short as possible ... the mechanic started doing the head gasket March 22 and took about 7 month to finish the job, he removed the head in like 2 days but them barely worked on my truck so the since we in Massachusetts with the weather changes and all that the piston rings and walls rusted and once he decided to finish the job I guess my engine was too rusted inside thats what the new mechanic said...and honestly I do belive him.
Where are located?
Why the hell would you run a re-gen with the DPF heavily plugged???? đ
Great information. Looked like that crankcase pressure was being measured in inches of water, not mercury?
Why not run some non-detergent oil in it and see if it helps?
Does that engine have crankcase breather, and if it does, would a blockage in the breather produce similar symptoms?
Absolutely. Crankcase should replace yearly to avoid these type of issues.
Yes he mentioned in the beginning of the video that he replaced the crankcase sensor and filter
It's a maintenance free CCV đ€Šââïž
Good day I have a isx 15 and I have Cummins insite I am in ct can you remote my computer and help me with this engine speed problem am having I will pay for your service
What about missing a gear, when you think you've got a gear and let the clutch out and over rev it, could brake a ring, Ide chose the new engine for $10,000
Hate that darn crank Case pressure!
That sucks! I'm sure it'll get fixed tho
It will get fixed. Just need to know which direction customer would like to take.
Where are you located?
1120 high ave sw canton Ohio 44707
Why not do a relative compression test with an oscilloscope to see if pressure was dropping in one of the cylinders first it takes all of 5 minutes and it cost $0 to do
Had a same exact problem with my X-15 at 34,000 miles. #6 hole was shot the ring was broken. Thank God the warranty coverd all the work.
I was getting code 555.
At 34k miles they better cover it...
Can't the customer go after the oil company for the damage the oil caused?
For me turned out to be the wiring harness...comes back on when I bumpy roads. Replaced sensor, had a lifetime filter...its the harness...haven't replaced it ...just wiggle it as needed. Annoying none the less...wish company would just replace the harness.
CUMMINS PLEASE ADD RELATIVE COMPRESSION TEST TO INSITE.
With only 350k miles wow
today's world of EGR, DPF does that.
you didnt mention you should check the blowby tube for being plugged, the red stop engine light doesnt come on till 28 psi, throttle whipping it will give you a more accurate look at the data than a idle will.
This guy doesn't know a jack about Cummins engine.....
he's clueless...
@@cic-jakevanddalgeemyers.2739 i guess i have to ask if your saying i am clueless or ryan is clueless,
Broken rings
You're going to find a cracked compression ring on #6. Ask me how i know....
Is the truck around 250-300k miles?
Cummins engine being having olot issues with they engines
These camshafts are shit, i have changed a bunch of these
Cylinder head valves donât fully open
Making excessive pressure in the chamber, pistons rings brake and have a bunch of blowby
I mean you can have many scenarios that can lead to this same issue
But these cummins love camshafts and rocker arms,
After finding this
You must check main bearings
I have found broken cooling piston nozzles, liner loses lubrication, rings get extremely hot and brake pushing lots of blowby
I can go on and on. Lol many things can go wrong here
Is there an option to run it on 5 cylinders? đ€Ł
Man, thatâs not sounding too good Ryan.
Not good! Donât hope this to be the result
Tip #1 delete the damn thing
Cummins are junk got sick of my fleet of them needing rebuilds every 300,000 miles. Switched to Scania and have 4 with 900,000 miles and havent done any engine rebuilds on any of them
360 k miles and already overhaul⊠Cummins is a joke now⊠Old N14 was way better but still not as good as Volvo D12⊠never see any overhaul on volvo engine before 1.5-2 mil miles
How do you do the test for the turbo oil line causing crank case pressure?
In future videos can you do less talking and just get straight to the point!
You would probably get a lot more people to subscribe if they weren't so long
