Hey Ryan, really appreciate all of your videos. I got the OTR performance tool about 4 months ago, as insurance in case my truck went into derate.
Well it finally happened, Truck randomly would tell me it was going to derate in 4 hours but would go away within a hour so I didn't have to use the tool. This week it came on and actually clocked down to 1 hour even after shutting down for the night. I used the tool and it cleared but about 15 miles down the road it came back on and was at 1 hour derate. I made it to a truck stop and talked to the shop. They said all they could do was hook up the machine but wouldn't be able to do any actual work for 3 days. I hooked the tool up and it didn't clear so i was at a loss and couldn't go anywhere, at that point I was in full derate. An hour later the shop told me to come in. I started the truck and started to drive over and the derate disappeared. They hooked up and found nothing. Charged me 80 bucks.
So i hit the road , 15 minutes later 1 hour derate popped up. I hooked the tool up and come to find out, the derate doesn't disappear until you start the engine, that wasn't in the instructions. I guess I got lucky the 1st time. Needless to say i had to plan my stops every hour to clear it until I delivered my load and got to a truckstop near a peterbilt store. Bought the IMAP and BAP sensors, replaced them and so far 400 miles later all is good.
I dare say the OTR performance tool paid for itself a couple times already!
Thanks for all your insight dude!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have heard many good feedbacks from owner operators! Please keep in mind, clear the code doesn’t mean the issue will resolve itself. It is just an insurance that you don’t need to pay the toll bill instead to fixing it yourself and your choice of shop. Good luck!

I had a Def sensor replaced actually 2 times due to a bad one from factory 6 months ago sure enough here comes the Derate again and again but no codes very frustrating. I’m giving this a try to see how it goes. I’ll keep watching and learning from you. Thx for your Knowledge and Mechanical abilities very helpful.

Hey Ryan thank you for the video. Was very helpful. Could only find the manifold air temperature pressure sensor. Installed it first then a week later install DBAP censored, that cleared the problem right up. 24 hours later the engine light went off. As soon as I installed the second sensor, Truck ran fine, but light didn’t go off till a day later.

They both honestly suck with aftertreatment. Dd15 has known wiring harness and ECM issues. Fuel system is also prone to leaks, broken filter modules, coolant leaks in fuel cooler, etc. Cummins isx 15 requires constant ECM updates and sensors are known to randomly fail. Def module tends to leak,, DEF combo temp level and quality sensor fails every 6 months to a year. DEF tank heater is fragile and the control valve is known for sticking open and overheating sensor.. Cummins is cheaper in the long long maintenance wise but both engines require a competent technician and a quality scan tool to keep down time to an absolute minimum.

I need his number so I can ask him few questions. Bc I’m getting check engine light stays on but engine derate come on but clears itself out.. keep in mind the check engine light continues to stay on. Faught code is 1228 egr valve position: data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect. 187 sensor supply 2 circuit : low voltage detected at the sensor supply 2 circuit. 2272 EGR valve position circuit: low signal voltage has been detected at the EGR valve position sensor circuit…this is what Peterbilt computer says.. now I just place the egr cooler, turbo, SCR, doc, dpf and other things bc of a egr cooler failure that leak coolant into the engine.. $30k I paid. Haven’t been in the truck 2 weeks and now I’m having check engine light stays on and the derate come on and off as it pls… I need help I watch this video and you sir seems very knowledgeable about 2016 peterbilt 579 isx15 Cummins even though you have KW.

If you want to be detailed this is good. But unnecessary word just some guys want to wash your truck. Don't wanna wash their and you wanna watch that has nothing to do with what you're talking about. My suggestion write all this down then learn how to shorten and get rid of the nonsense in the story. Input and detail is good but storytime is for children that need to go to sleep and that's what you're doing.

Make your own videos if you don't approve his. Literally makes no sense crying about what you crying about when the man is clearly genuinely helping you save money. All the explaining he's doing is educating you and you don't even realize it.
