A Shoe Made to Help You Fly
When Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in 1:59:40 in 2019, he did so in a prototype of the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%. This extraordinary achievement in Vienna, Austria was years in the making, a culmination of a collaboration between Eliud and Nike, beginning with Eliud’s effort to break the two-hour marathon barrier in 2017. Eliud’s feat has inspired some of the world’s fastest runners to test their own limits and break their own records, and now the shoe that he wore on that chilly October morning in Vienna is available to you.
Our premiere racing shoe is loaded with new technology and innovation that includes two ultra-responsive Zoom Air pods in the forefoot and additional ZoomX foam in the heel. It’s a racing shoe made to shatter records and PRs, whether you’re looking finish a marathon in two, three, four, or five hours.
    Alphafly NEXT%
    It’s All About Air
Two streamlined Zoom Air pods in the forefoot deliver even more energy return than just the ZoomX foam that is in the Vaporfly NEXT%.
    Alphafly NEXT%
    More ZoomX Foam
ZoomX foam is unique in two ways: It’s incredibly responsive and lightweight. The Alphafly NEXT% has more foam than the Vaporfly NEXT%, providing additional impact protection and cushion.
    Alphafly NEXT%
    Customized Carbon Fiber Plate
Working in tandem with the ZoomX foam and the Zoom Air pods, is a full-length carbon fiber plate that delivers a snappy sensation with each stride. For the Vaporfly NEXT%, we used a single thickness of carbon fiber for all of the sizes. But for the Alphafly NEXT%, the thickness was scaled for the size of each shoe-the plate is more flexible in smaller sizes and gets stiffer as the size of the shoe increases.
    Alphafly NEXT%
    Introducing AtomKnit
During testing, the Nike Innovation team discovered that with the additional foam and the two Zoom Air pods underfoot, the overall weight of this shoe increased. To shave off some ounces, the Nike Innovation team developed a new Flyknit upper called AtomKnit. Flyknit fabric is steamed and stretched, delivering a lightweight, contoured fit with minimal water absorption and enhanced breathability.
    Alphafly NEXT%
Vivian Cheruiyot, Celliphine Chespol, Eliud Kipchoge, Geoffrey Kamworor
Inspired By the World’s Fastest Runners
Over the course of two years, our Nike Sports Research Lab team traveled to the Kaptagat Training Camp in Kenya to test the Alphafly NEXT% with some of the world’s elite distance runners, including Eliud Kipchoge, and hear their first-hand experiences of running in them.

Yo if you are salty cuz I got a pair to test out casually and to test the new technology since I am genuinely interested in it, but I’m not a runner... remember Jordan, yeah his Air Jordan shoes were used for PERFORMANCE ONLY also, but had a cross over to lifestyle. Some runners can to the same. I say in the beginning this is a casual vid, don’t like it,move on, not a hard thing to do! 🦶✌️

      Hey HesKicks,
I’m one of the so-called haters. But I’m not... I support the channel and have been quite a big fan of the content you put out. But reviews on these super-shoes that are meant for racing is something I don’t look forwards to. It happens with every Nike or Carbon shoe release. I’ve mentioned in my own comment why it is bad (overpronation from carbon causes ligament damage, etc) and why people shouldn’t be wearing an elite running shoe as a casual shoe. There is no disclaimer within the video and by the looks of other comments, is quite encouraging to people to buy these shoes for casual use.
Air Jordan basketball shoes were for “performance only” but transitioned to everyday wear. And you might find that the modern “tech-filled” basketball shoe also has off-court design elements to it (Nike also has those customers in mind). But what Nike did with Kipchoge is to make a shoe TAILORED to the marathon and racing not for casual use. There are other shoes that are similar to the Alphafly made for comfort without a carbon plate and have design elements like it FOR CASUAL USE. The technology of carbon fiber is something revolutionary but in the eyes of a casual perspective kinda hazardous. The shoes are also built for straight lines that’s why in cornering it’s somewhat unstable. Being built with not durable rubber (the nature of nike and being a “race day only shoe”), therefore you shouldn’t be wearing them for as a casual shoe. I’m not hating just telling you the facts based off of me being a competitive runner as well as a sneakerhead who appreciates shoes just like you.
Hope this opens up a bit of your perspective onto the world of “elite-carbon” shoe.

Don't compare running to basketball. Most running shoes can cause foot injury If you keep wearing them casually. Basketball shoes more likely to be closer to the ground...

If it's for occasionally running 12 miles outdoors than sure but if you're putting in tons of miles I would suggest the pegasus turbo. those also have the zoomx foam but are more durable since they use a layer of react foam as well

I’ve heard so many opinions on this shoe from a runners perspective, it’s nice to hear your review from a casual perspective (nicely done by the way). I’m a runner, not elite by any means but still competitive in my age group, and my biggest problem is the $275 price tag. I suppose if I was some super elite world class athlete they might be worth it but at my level I just can’t justify the price. The other thing I’ve heard is their durability may be lacking. Believe me if I’m going to spend nearly $300 on a pair of running shoes they better hold up for 500+ miles of use which, from what I hear, these don’t even come close. Bottom line, I’ll pass on these for now.

    • @Xmasochist
      @Xmasochist Před 3 lety +13

Definitely a "save for race day/PR day" shoe. The new Tempo Next% is supposed to be the daily trainer companion to these and should have more durability due to having a React heel cushion. Those aren't that cheap either though at around $200. Many cheaper options around. I personally use a Zoom Fly FK and Zoom Fly 3 for training, and I picked both of those up on sale.

    • @heskicks

Both the ZoomX in the rear feels great, and the FlyPlate and Zoom Air in the forefoot really gives a "launching" feeling. And they are much more widefoot friendly (gang gang!) than most runners
And while I like how this colorway looks, I don't like the upper materials, which feels stiff and plastic-y to me - I'm sure Nike was just trying to give a breathable, lightweight, durable upper, but just coming from a casual perspective, I don't care for it, and prefer the upper on the 4%

Dragsters are badass on drag strips, not so much in a cul de sac. But hey, to each their own!

These are the running/marathon version meant specifically for that purpose. They do have another version in the line that is more of a training shoe for standard training that is probably better suited for casual wear in comparison. i have a link saved for them to keep an eye out if they go on sale or the price comes down any.

  • @hollypark2752
    @hollypark2752 Před rokem +1

great for racing, bad for walking. it doesn't matter how soft the cushioning is, this shoe is terrible for walking in so many ways. most ppl heel strike while they walk. this shoe is designed for forefoot strike while running. if you heel strike on these, you lose your balance very easily as there is no heel support and there is no structure for the foam. these shoes are also made for max ventilation so if you just sitting around your feet will be cold. these shoes have about 25% the life span of regular running shoes. the exposed foam wears down quick. even walking in gravel or any unsmoothed surfaces will shread the unprotected zoomx on the bottom with 5-10 mins.

I've always wondered... could you wear a race show as a "casual lifestyle shoe" ...would the carbon plate bother someone stnding around or just walking? Never mind the fact that this shoes looks too "purpose built" for marathoneers. To the point of looking like othapedic shoes for people with midical issues with their legs.
Have you tried thte Vaporfly NEXT& ? Have you done a video on it yet? I'm vaguely considering one but I am more of a lifestyle shoe wearer. :) Sprinting once in a while for personal fitness. But I'm not a "runner".
The guy youre thinking about is Eliud Kipchoge :) I know about the Alpha youre talking about...has 3 plates in it. I think Nie sold copies of it briefly. SHoes were on eBay. That or maybe not exact copies but shoes wthat were part of the "EK Collection" sold suring 2020 only. Odd they stopped making EK Collection items....he's got fans. And there is the Alpha NEXT& 2 now....and the Peg 39....(back in 2020 there was a Peg 37 EK ...
