    Wow, this is a really great performance! I agree with you on Vanessa coming a long way from Highschool Musical and singing in Tick, Tick, Boom.

      Well, she was a musical actress way before the High School Musicals, her first musical stage credits go way back to the 90s. And she did play both Mimi and Maureen in various versions of RENT after the HSMs, so Larson's work is quite close to her heart, I'd say :)

    Thank you for pointing out how difficult those intervals are hard to sing! They make it look so effortless but those are tricky notes to hit in succession.

    Ruthie, my daughter, and I watched Tick Tick Boom earlier this week and we both enjoyed it and were moved by not only the music, but the story. The scene in the diner with the song “Sunday” was just full of surprising cameos! But this song is just so beautifully written. This reaction video was my first time hearing it and I came back to it after watching the movie as it makes more sense now. Great job. ❤️

    As good as this "music video" is, the actual performance of the song in the movie is, to me, more memorable since both ladies are singing while in character. Alexandra's Susan is singing directly to Jonathan in the context of their deteriorating relationship so her emotional investment is at a peak. Vanessa's character, Karessa, is performing the song at a workshop for potential financial backers for Jonathan's show and her emotions are more performative but still effective. The editing of the back and forth between the two ladies while they're singing is superb. Vanessa has come a long way and has paid her theater dues which include starring as Gigi on Broadway a couple of years ago and as Mimi in the concert version of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl among other productions. Little side note about the movie scene: Bradley Whitford, as Stephen Sondheim, is at the workshop and the camera catches him in one of the great man's classic poses with his head tilted to one side and a hand on his chin.

    Turns out Andrew Garfield is an Anglo-American real deal (like Fleetwood Mac): his mother was English, his father American. He spent most of his youth in England, hence the accent acquired in his formative years but with an ear sensitive to American accents, an advantage over English actors affecting them.

    This was a great way to start my Wednesday! I've not seen the movie/play, but this song was well done. And as always I enjoyed your breakdown of what they're doing throughout the song. I hope you have a fantastic week Jen and I look forward to your next video! Ciao!

    I really don't know how to feel about this. It seems such an ordinary musical theater song competently sung by two actresses with minimal vocal interaction. It just didn't move me one bit. The strong singing at the end was too little, too late for me. I do get loving a movie musical; don't get me started on The Music Man. I actually am less interested in tick, tick...Boom! after listening to this cover. Different strokes, I guess.

    • @benjiiuler
      @benjiiuler Před 2 lety +11

      This is not a scene from the movie. Is just a bonus vídeo with the two actress sing one of the music out of the context of movie

    • @BrightNeonBrilliancy
      @BrightNeonBrilliancy Před 2 lety +7

      to be fair, not only was this a BTS singthrough of the song, but the song itself- in the movie, that is- isn't a duet in the conventional sense. That's probably why you feel there's 'minimal vocal interaction'. Vanessa is singing the song in real time, whereas the other actress is singing it in a fantasy sequence in the male protagonist's head. They aren't actually in the room with one another singing, if that makes sense?
