The most difficult combo trial I've ever attempted

- yes, harder than the trials in KoF13
Today we are continuing our playthrough of the Street Fighter 3: Third Strike combo trial challenge! Today we've got Elena, Hugo, Ibuki, Ken, and last but not least Makoto. The "tominaga combo" where Makoto juggles 2 uppercuts in a row after landing super is legitimately one of the hardest combos I've ever done. After 2 days of grinding I was able to pull it off 1 time, and it felt soooo good. Hope you guys enjoy!

Talking about idle animations, The only thing that moves on Makoto is her gi and sash. Her training and focus is so good there's no extraneous movement. I actually love that and had never noticed it before this video.
That detail is INSANE!! Thank you for pointing this out, I don’t think I would’ve ever noticed in my own.
The look of this game has always seemed so indescribably refined to me.
Why are her feet so gigantic though?
And her eyes, she blinks
Her hair too
@@Poisonjam7late comment but most character have big feet and fists to see where a move i neutral ends. (This is the actual reason stated by the devs)
There's a 3s trials rom out there, that contains a bunch of cool trials, far more advanced and unique then what's in 3s Online. Bafael has done a few videos on them. They range from practical to hyper situational but if you want more 3s trials content, that would be a good place to go.
Link plz?

There you go. Super interesting
CrystalCube is awesome. Best content creator for 3rd Strike. The fact he picks up on such small details for the entire SF3 series is impressive.
The Ken crossup EX tatsu double light DP is wild
@@sirrando you and @AirPhorce are a beast for mentioning this. never knew about this. so thanks, im def checking into this.
Man shoutout to Tominaga for having the positional awareness AND execution to do the Double Fukiage consistently.
I love that Third Strike has combos like these. Their difficulty feels almost intentional; because mastering these ruins the game for everyone else. Urien unblockable loops SUCK, Makoto TOD's SUCK; but they don't ruin the game because such a small fraction of people can even do them once, let alone everytime
I like how 3rd strike came out more than 20 years ago and is STILL harder than recent street fighter titles. The only game that comes as hard if not harder is Street fighter 1 because of the super stiff inputs and cheap boss A.I lol
None of that sucks more Chun kicking the air in the corner with a super bar while you are terrified to sneeze, and it's third srike Parry allows for the jank to feel ok because you can always just swat that shit out of there and win lol
Me too. I think this kind of stuff that is incredibly hard to do is one of those things that helps players achieve mastery of the game that few ever do. Rewarded for the effort and dedication because the best makotos in the world get rewarded and win rounds off one command grab if they can do this.
This stuff isnt broken because its all situational still. its character specific. Its super super hard to a point only few players ever can even do it consistently. That is what helps balance it all out and stops it from being brokenly good.
“Top Makoto players can just do it whenever they like” You’d think that, but the 100% stun is a frighteningly difficult combo to do even at the top level. There’s a reason Tominaga is one of the only one of them to stick with SA2 is most matchups, and it’s not because SA1 is strictly better.
... one of the only one of them🤔
Yeah, Tominaga is the only top Makoto player if they're supposed to be able to do this consistently all the time. It really is a brutally difficult combo.
Been playing 3S since GGPO exists pretty much, and I still drop the second Hayate all the time
well...SA1 is mostly better because it fits more consistently into makoto's pressure and gameplan, and since you can hit it more consistently.
SA2 requires strict positioning and ONLY combos after a karakusa or oroshi, so it's waaay harder to hit.
Most top level Makoto players, like Mimora or Boss, do stuff that's arguably harder than the 100%, and certainly have the execution needed to be able to consistently finish the TOD. However, they probably choose not to, since Seichusen adds another layer of reward and mixups parallel to the karakusa, aside from being much more flexible. It's mostly an insanely powerful mixup tool.
Also there's different variations of the kara fukiage you have to do depending on who the opponent character is. My brain just can't handle. Makoto still the best SF character tho. Don't @me
I came to share in the misery of Makoto trials and i left with cursed Elena head.
Thanks. Keep up the great content!
One of my favorite things on fighting games are combo trials.
They always seem real fun to me, and seeing jmcrofts attempting some of the hardest and succeeding in them will always be satisfying yo me
Man I'm so proud of you landing that last combo. When I first started Third Strike back in the day I wanted to main Makoto, but these combos were so intimidating and I never got close. Seeing you grind it out and complete them is cathartic, so thank you.
If you haven't done them already, I would love to see Blazblue Central Fiction, and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 combo trials.
They're long, and can be difficult, but they're very fun.
Man Guilty Gear Strive needs combo trials.
I complete a few of Xrd's trials, but BBCFs I've never finished. Naoto, Izanami, Makoto and Tsubaki I've come stupid close to doing.
The only character that I've managed to complete in BBCF was celica and that took several days, those were really fun to do ngl
I finished ragna and mai's trials in bbcf but no other characters. I love the game, it's cracked.
seeing people struggling at Makoto combos gives me joy, especially since I play her and can never do it
I’m really digging these combo trial videos
God I love watching these combo trial videos. Glad you brought them back!
Love these combo videos and old school character analysis videos man!
I’ve had Makoto as my main for about 10 years now, so these combos are like my bread and butter. Though connecting that jab fukiage is pretty tough sometimes
Yo congratulations man!! You worked very hard there!!!
Loving this series buddy keep it up lol the gasp doing it the first time was too funny
Love the combo trial videos especially the older long form ones of sf4, mvc3, and persona 4
Congrats! Glad all the work paid off
Mad props!! I don't think I've ever landed that Makoto combo IN MY LIFE. I didn't even know the DP had to be kara.
Would love to see kof 13 trials next!
Keep up the grind homie!
I'm pretty sure he did them already. 🤔
@@brianpbillingsley3687 dang ur right :/
Thanks tho
JM my man I'm loving these combo trial vids. All of them have been awesome. I would absolutely love to see you attempt Uniclr trials next. Some characters in that game I've been having trouble completing for a while(Linne, Carmine, Yuzu), and I haven't even attempted Vatista yet. I'd like to see how you would fare against them
BBCF combo trials would be great to see!
I hope Makoto makes a proper come back in SF 6, to me she was one of the few cool new characters SF put in
I’m rlly hoping if they do add her, that she takes a little inspiration from Ryu and gains a few of the core shoto moves (specifically a fireball and maybe the cmk) while keeping most of her fiercely aggressive kit.
3s is so sick. Makoto and Q are two of my favorite fighting game characters ever
So happy u pulled that last combo off. I was getting anxiety watching it 🤣
Woah. That was beautiful!
You playing 3s made me commit to subscribing; well done.
Well done man
loving the content and loving the trials, keep up the good work! I forget the reason you dropped it but would really like to see the return of the persona 4 arena trials
The combo trial quote everyone has said untold amounts: "I did the same thing I did every other time."
18:43 - I know that feeling. It's such a good feeling ❤️
the touch of death, just the combo that I'm still practicing but thanks to your video I see the missing piece for the second Fukiage, the Japanese told me to practice first with Hugo as an opponent.
with the rollback (HOPEFULLY) coming soon to BBCF, it would be fun to see you go through the trials on that. Some are hard, some are pretty easy.
BBCP has some really interresting final combos in its trial mode, that dont tell you what to do, but rather give you challenge, such as "Use 200% of your meter in 1 combo" or "Stay in the air for 10 seconds", so it would be cool to look at that as well.
God i love hugo and alex match intro
Lving these trial videos.
Quick tip for Makoto:
If you are ever trying to hit the Abare Tosanami combo from command grab, the best way to tell if you can land the s.HP into super is by the life bar. If you are behind the time clock when trying to hit it, you are able to combo, but anywhere past the time clock, and s.HP xx Super will not connect.
The more you know!
3:38 after you said that you just made her animation much more hypnotizing for me
now imagine being a makoto player and having to be able to do that on command.. just saying... so many hours
Awesome now I got a modern guide to help me do all the combos!
Wow that makoto combo is sick
God the pain and suffering you will have to go through if you ever try to do ash crimson's trials in kof13. Avoid it for your sanity
Bro that pop off for the first time double fukiage is too real. I hit the first bnb on ryu in mvc3 and I was popping off the same way lmao
she's a beast 🥰
I remember knocking all these out, and then for whatever reason, I got stuck on Sean’s 4 or 5, i forget which one.
Makotos stance is by far legendary.. She dont move.. At all.. She just stands still with death in her eyes.. My fav sf3s player
Now do double super 2 into double Fukiage for the instant stun combo lmao.
Also you should do some of the custom combo trails for Third Strike they’re crazy but very cool
waitin for that Ballz 3D tourney jmcrofts, you promised naow
Practice Makes Perfect !
20:44 Ah, a rare variant: _The Silent Pog_
Congratulations. You learned Tominaga's Kiss of Death.
For those who don't know, "Hayate" can be another word for "Shippuu", and without actually seeing the kanji I'd guess that's the intent with Makoto and Ken.
0:30 my fav channel
I don’t think I was ever able to replicate the Daigo parry in online edition.
Some of those Super IV trials were nightmares for me. Probably the hardest platinum trophy I have on my account because of the C to Shining C trophy.
@Skelley-Priest Ibuki's one frame links into target combo jump canceled to Ultra 2 gave me carpal tunnel
Yo! You should try the Street Fighter Ex plus Alpha combo trials! They get pretty interesting for some characters like Dhalsim having one where you must keep him in the air for at least 10 seconds. Much harder than it sounds 🥴
“This is poisons favorite combo” they ain’t slick 😏.
Around the time you were doing SFIV and UMVC3 combo trials you also started the Persona 4 Arena trials. Any chance we get to see those next? Love your stuff man. Keep up the good work.
Something about the folds in Makoto's gi makes her look pretty stacked
That last Makoto combo literally took me an hour or more back on ps3. Think I only did 1 in matches and jump cancel qc kick move into dash punch instead of another dp on ground.
Hilarious!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO LETY'S GOOOOOO (shakeing his fist)
i would love to see combo trials for Them's Fightin' Herds
i think there might have been a JMcup for this game but im not sure
3:51 some capoeira users call it the ginga.. when they add “esquivas” that when the head moves move but also more arm movement but i agree it does look funny like the front view of a hurdler
Was that 'Let's go Keeen' accent a Rocky Rose reference, because if it is I will become a patron right now
I'm pretty sure it's a Mike Ross reference, it's the east coast hood guy that has a Kyen
18:00 Hey that's my double fukiage tutorial xDDD I'm happy that it helped you
Kof 13 trials 🤘🤘
I see all the moves and i know forget it ill never be able to this.
Oh yeaa
This game combo trials are going to be hard
I have never been this early
3:36 I always thought her idle animation looked weird. Maybe this is why.
18:17 - something else you can do is watch the screen when you do your kara. The whole screen should ever so slightly shift to the left (the direction of you kara). That's how always tell if I got it or not
Idc what anyone says JM is the GOAT
“GOT EM” 🤣 me dropping the game winning combo
Id like to see some trials in kof 11. You'd be the first to film that. Ps2 game though. The trials in that game unlock characters.
I'm a makoto main and a friend had to do trial 5 for me lol. But I also play pad. KoFXIII trials are a ton of fun and so are anime games like blazblue and guilty gear. Trials are usually one of the first things I do in a new fighter.
Jim kof XIV combos *evil laughter*
3:35 The weird thing about Elena's face isn't that it's fixed, it's that it's like 1/3 the size it should be.
i remember i used to unbeatable in this game because of this combo..jeez i miss this game
What controller do you use? I cant even hear your double quarter circle forward inputs. Youre so clean LOL.
forced lets go at the end
Shk kara dp no wonder i never was able to get that
3:53 That's because the opponent is supposed to be confused by the limps israre but Angola does have headbutting attacks. You should learn it, commonly known as capoeira. However this is an African fighting style that was influence by Zebras.
I see fukiage, I see the word "hard". That's the sa2 Kara fukiage all right
Every year or so I decide I want to learn and main Makoto. Then I spend about an hour or two trying to do her combos and give up.
Jmcrofts what stick do you use for this game?
In old STF game combo challenges, they literally did not tell you which potency of the move to use. I learned the hard way in STF EX+Alpha... horrible game but great music and completionism in my youth made me do it.
That last makoto combo is so hard to do. Yet I see the japan cooperation cup guys do it every single time likes a basic combo. lol
They have been smashing cartons of cigs playing this game for 30 years what do you expect lol what kills me is the guys that have made characters like oro legit playable
It's 2023 and I'm watching this to figure out makotos trials
" I already did ibuki but I'm going to do her again"- Jmcrofts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
bruh I can't even do command grab into hp consistently, that's why I just spam dash punch and hope for the best
Some BBCF trials are incredibly hard, never managed to do hakumen's last trial , it's just insane
Naoto for the hand surgery
For the all go ruthenium
Aaaand *heres* the tominaga combo.
Damn, I can't even do fierce into Abare. Trying this would make my fingers fall off.
reason why Makoto is the best tomboy
Id like to see your take on Skullgirls combo trials
You should do trials for:
Blazblue Central Fiction specifically Naoto trials
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
More KoFXIII trials
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
Darkstalkers Resurrection
UMVC3
Blaze blue
Alright, persona 4 arena combo trials, extra points if you don't search how to do combo trial 30
I could never do dash into Kara-Fukiage, so my SF3 trails are forever incomplete.
MBTL might be a nice breather after you finish these 3rd strike combos
