This is such a good interview. Ariel asking the questions we want to hear and then shutting up and letting Rockhold talk. I never knew Rockhold struggled with drugs and alcohol. He could help a lot of folks by continuing to be open and honest about this. Respect, Luke.
That's why he is a mess. Drugs don't help. Just like the song says.
We want to see Luke fighting again

He still needs help and support because he is also a very toxic person. And it does not help that one of you BFFs is Bryan Callen.

@@paladro the shadiness of the ufc & the depths they go to protect/promote certain fighters and hold back others would blow many peoples minds.
Not to mention, the judges being in the back pockets of certain sportsbooks & the ufc. Its hilarious, when there is a horrible decision, the ufc(& its media puppets) has the naive public brainwashed into believing its due to the judges incompetence. No dipshits, its just they are protecting the interests of people other than the fighters. The bigger the ufc gets, the more it will be stripped of its integrity.
I always appreciated rockholds complete game from his slick striking to his strong ground game. Saw him in my teens in strikeforce. It's tough to see the world appreciate the guy when he's a shell of himself rather than when he was at his peak. Much respect man! 🙏
That's ufc fans for you. They'll, now, love him just cause Ariel said everyone loves him. I never saw the love he's talking about. Not till now.
A shell of himself? I think he still could be top level(maybe not quite champion) & could beat really good guys if he still has the drive. People ignore the facts that he's been off for over 3 yrs(which is huge at any age let alone his) & had the misfortune of getting his nose destroyed very early in the fight. Ya add up the time off(adrenaline dump), the altitude and broken nose of course hes gonna be completely gassed early. He had a couple nice chances on the ground, but because of ring rust & urge to get a finish(cuz he knew he was gassed), he was sloppy & rushed things. Even being completely gassed, he still landed some bombs. Again, if he was still dedicated he could have a really good few year run cuz he still has the skill & heart. I say none of this to take anything away from Costa, cuz he got the job done and it was dope to see him get back in the win column.
But i know what ya mean, of course age is a factor and he isnt what he was, but i think it is hard to draw much from this fight given the circumstances.
@@jaseallenson316 he’s a great fighter even now but he’s 37 and even if he’s not 10 percent of what he used to be at the top level it’s enough of a difference. People need to realize 27 and 37 are completely different stages in peoples athletic ability, stamina and ability to take a punch. No way around that, Luke was clearly the better fighter than Costa just wasn’t able to put him away. Had Luke been 30 just like Costa it would’ve been a short night… great time to hang the gloves and go out on a win(not a literal win) 38,39 and 40 won’t be any nicer in the ufc.
I don't see why he's trying to blame Dana White for not promoting him properly. Rockhold was the man, everyone respected him when he won the championship but he dug his own grave with the way he reacted to the Bisping loss
@@jaseallenson316 Exactly I see Rockhold having another 2 fights left in the tank
Really is crazy how the UFC protected Vitor on that trt run. Knew he had the testosterone levels of 5 men so had him fight Luke in Brazil where Vitor could pass the tests. Can’t blame Luke at all for feeling that way.
Yea & it’s still going on until this day 😢
Yea that’s messed up they did him dirty like that and Bisping as well 👁.
Also GSP’s career got cut short bc of that mess. UFC is evil business 😈
@Levvis Balhare Came here to say this as well. Also, Luke's assertion that he wasn't given opportunities because they made him fight Vitor is flawed anyway. Vitor beat Luke, fought a LHW match against Hendo in Brazil because Weidman was injured, and then fought for the title. The match with Vitor was essentially a title eliminator. Although there was a bit of a log jam at the top of the division because Weidman beat Anderson, and then rematched him, and then fought his training partner (Machida). Had Silva and Rockhold won, that would likely be the fight that took place next.
@@TheLanCannon we have no clue what goes on behind doors and under the table. I guarantee we would be shocked if we knew the depths of which the ufc goes to protect/promote certain fighters and hold back others. And im not just talking about favorable anf unfavorable matchups. No doubt in my mind it goes well beyond that. This is why i put little to zero stock in credibility of belts.
Is Moreno going down that road? Because he is about to fight Figueredo in Brazil. 😬

How did he get respect from this fight? Luke just fought the best he could after a long layoff but came up short.
As far as I'm concerned he proved he is still one of the best. 1st round nose break at altitude against a pretty prime seeming Paulo and still finishes the fight...regardless of preparation or how his camp went that in and of itself is epic. This last-second recognition and outpouring of appreciation would not have happened without this fight. That is what's sad.

Rockhold released his demons and left as a samurai, good man. Always wanted to see him fight Anderson even though he never got an easy fight. Hope he trains Khabib's team whenever they're nearby or at AKA because he had the skills of a featherweight at middleweight at his absolute best...
Think is that Rockhold had style and this stuff is street fight and drug taking. That 360 switch kick was smth and that punch he landed after getting pissed off about his nose! Rockhold would make a better character in a movie fight than any of those wannabe fighter action movie super stars.
Straight from Strikeforce, Luke would've gave anderson a hell of a fight, maybe even beat him.
I remember watching Luke in Strikeforce vs guys like Tim Kennedy and Jacare, really entertaining high level wars. He def had the potential of being one of the best middleweights ever. Sucks the leg injuries took its toll
He was beating everyone up in strike force
I mean he still top 5 middleweight of all time and potentially the best ever in his prime.
Like he said, i think when he did lose, he lost to juiced up Vitor. Although, I do believe he got clipped by Bisping, Luke would not have lost that fight. He was prime.......then all his injuries came. Def a legend. As a fan, he was NEVER in a boring fight, whether he won or lost.
@@oceanpacific3841 Definitely one of the best fighters to come out of Strikeforce. Just unfortunate he was matched up with TRT Vitor on his UFC debut instead of getting the opportunity to unify his Strikeforce title with Anderson Silva.
Damn. That’s tough. As great as Luke was it’s a shame he feels this way. Dude did have incredibly tough matchups since getting to the ufc. It’s amazing what losing to bisping did to him.
He reminds me of how Woodley used to talk. Nothing is his fault and he would be Conor McGregor if Dana wasn’t always putting him down.
You had a great career. Got paid a ton of money. Let it go.
I feel the same for Leon Edwards how he did the impossible to get to Usman and finally got his shot after shoving Masvidal, Covington to Usman.
If the expected wit Luke defeating Bisping the 2nd time how do u think things would turn out ? Cause now that Bisping beat Luke he's ranked higher on the all time middleweight list its likely also because of Bisping longevity

@@dannyg2197 what? You guys are assuming too much. You’re assuming Costa used everything he had and that he is on his prime right now and will not not evolve anymore. I don’t think wise to say any of that with that much confidence, especially after seeing Leon beating Usman the way it was. Another thing is that he was NOT completely exhausted, he was hurt. Nobody exhausted throws shots with the explosiveness and effort that he showed, he was baiting Costa and it was clear. You guys are tripping for believing he was in a worse condition than he really was, that Costa used everything he had and that Costa will stay like this for the rest of his career. I like that Luke was so transparent about his lows. Dude is a beast I wish he gave us few more years of fighting.
always one of my favorite fights to watch since his strike force days! enjoy life brother, the time is now.
Rockhold definitely needs to be Johnny Cage in next MK2
Paulo Acosta Kabal
I don’t think he’s necessarily done with fighting, maybe he’s just done with the UFC. I could see him in Bellator. Luke vs Austin Vanderford? Leon’s brother Fabian? Gegard? There’s options
Luke would murder AV withot much effort, IMO
This might be the best interview I've seen in the sport, ever. Rockhold 4 Prez!
Been a fan of Luke ever since strikeforce. True gladiator mindset and style inside the cage. Its so sad to see all these fighters retire. Rampage, BJ, Luke and soon Jones.... Time gets all.
Dana White is the real life Vince McMahon
I love how he calls Brazil steroidville. HIlarious. So many cheaters from that country its insane, and full of excuses.
Man this guy has evolved into an absolute dude through his hardships, and I get the feeling it ain't over. Kudos.
Great interview. Much respect Luke
