  • Many women experience chronic pelvic pain or symptoms of recurrent UTIs. Sometimes these symptoms may go undiagnosed and it is actually a condition known as Interstitial Cystitis (IC). In this video, I explain the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options for Interstitial Cystitis and explain the difference between IC and UTIs. Be sure to watch until the end for more treatment options for this painful bladder syndrome.

Hello all, I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis for many years. Nothing helped, not the traditional treatment, not the antibiotics. I´ve been on vaginal HRT (hormone replacement therapy, estrogen) for 6 months now and the pain stopped within the first few days. Please note that postmenopause can be the reason for those symptoms.

I was told years ago I most likely have IC. Forward to me now post menopausal. I have what I thought were two UTIs recently. I went to a walk in clinic both times. The urinalysis showed I had a UTI however both times the cultures came back negative and the doctor said I could stop the antibiotics if I wanted to. I even had a lot of bleeding with this last episode. I’m so confused! Can you have severe bleeding in your urine with IC?

@@dr.lindsaymarie I dink lemon water daily. I thought lemons were good for the bladder & urine? You mentioned it was a bladder irritant. I’m confused now.

What about the symptom of burning sensation (after urination) while standing/walking/sitting/lying down)? The onset of the burning sensation is rather sudden.
Combined with a positive leucocytes test but negative nitrite?
Could these two factors point to IC as well?
Multiple antibiotics just got me a relief over the last 3-4 months and the sudden onset of burning sensation comes and goes.
My last urinalysis at my doctors showed multiple bacteria (small amount of streptococcus, and a "mixture of fecal bacteria"). My doctor seemed to be irritated by my symptoms though. Even with D-Mannose, L-Methionin, ibuprofen as a self therapy I still feel burning pain. :/
    Any ideas?

Burning can come from both UTIs and IC. If you feel your symptoms are not resolving with antibiotics, you could discuss with your doctor about getting a referral to see a urologist for further testing and diagnosis of your bladder symptoms. 🙏🏼
