"Way" (Spelled "Wey", "Buey" or "Güey") is a word Mexicans use all the time. In this video I try to explain how "Buey" morphed into "Wey" and then "Güey", and why this transformation is important if you're learning Spanish.
I cover how the Spanish /b/ phoneme is commonly realized as a voiced bilabial approximant [β], how this approximant [β] can be replaced with [w] in informal speech and why [w] is often reinforced with an initial [ɡ].
In other words, in this video I teach you about Spanish phonetics but I try to make it fun.
«Es muchísimo más productivo concentrarse en mejorar el español general que intentar imitar pronunciaciones o expresiones regionales». Bueno, me quedo con esas palabras.
Awesome explanation, and great feedback concerning focusing on foundational Spanish before adding slang. Thank you!
¡Gracias por tu comentario!
Please do a pronunciation video on the y/ll letters in Spanish!! I think that's the only one missing from the series.
Sure! The script is already finished, so it's in the pipeline!
Excellent as ever 🙌🙌
En Chile también se pronuncia /wen/ weno/ por "buen, bueno" en el habla informal.
Genial tu vídeo 😊❤
¡Gracias!
I mostly hear it from immigrants from Mexico, nobody in my family uses it. I guess we Hispanic Texans have our own slang terms.
No Mames guey!
He encontrado bueyes solo en villancicos...no he escuchado tu canal por un rato -- Tengo que volver!
Wow, ¿en serio no has escuchado "wey" en videos, películas y series de México? Lo dicen todo el tiempo.
@@spanishinput Supongo que no veo lo bastante de telenovelas mexicanas, y las maestros y músicos mexicanos que sigo no hablan a tal nivel informal....todo lo que sé es "José! Ven con el buey y el burro! Están viniendo tres reyes del Este! etc."
Exactly because some people always try to teach me curse words and slangs but I still don't know any curse word or slang in Spanish because I don't want to learn that.
Yeah, it's not the best use of your time.
