For the most reliable memory card, the official 8MB should work best. I have a larger one since I'm playing a lot of games currently, and haven't had issues (yet)
Third parties with "magic gate" feature are very good too
I bought a 128mb memory card a few years back for $8 Aus and never had any problems.
I preserve and don't use my genuine Sony 8mb magicgate ones.

PS2 was the very first console I ever owned. And I still have my original PS2 console still working for 20 years. No regrets.

It's the second golden age of games. I don't think they can make games like these anymore; it was about the artform now they just cash grab games with tons of micro transactions and locked out content for DLC.

Depends on the game. Most games I've wanted were less than $10 besides okami, shadow of the Colossus, fatal frame and silent Hill. It's obscene how much fatal frame and silent Hill go for

I remember my uncle had a PlayStation one for a few years then he got the PS2! I was blown away by what the ps2 was and could do. I asked my parents for one soon after. They said if I do good in school they’d get me one. I did just that! I remember getting home from school and saw the greatest gaming console ever laying on my bed in the box. I immediately hooked it up to my TV. My dad was impressed at how fast I did it (as simple as it may seem now days). I played it all day into the night. I had 2 ps2s in my lifetime the original and the slim.i remember playing Madden 2003 and NBA Live 2003 as my first games on it as a 3rd grade student. This game has brought me so many good memories and nostalgic moments. I recently brought one from a local retro gaming store in my city and I couldn’t be happier. Now at 26 I’m playing it more and buying note games than I ever remember having. I didn’t even know so many games were released for this system. I’m buying every game I had as a kid and some games that I would have liked to have and just didn’t know about. Sony PlayStation was so amazing.

I have a PS5 and a 60gb PS3. They are both HDMI so easy to play all generations on modern TVs

back in the day I played the getaway and got all the way to the end level on the boat without knowing you could heal by leaning on walls. The fury I felt from making myself grind through that game pushing my reflexes to the absolute max. haha good times.
Spent another £700 today. My determination to complete the ps1 collection is bankrupting me. I can't even face the ps2, games that cost over 1k makes that impossible to me. Love the content tho. Big shout from Cornwall UK.

I was born after the era of the PS2, but last month I picked up a PS2 fat and a couple accessories. I was shocked at how good it looked on my modern TV, especially with an HDMI cable adapter. Managed to pick up some games for under 10 USD a piece, but at some point like with most other 6th gen and older consoles, the supply of games is going to run dry with the amount of nostalgia for these consoles there is lately (nostalgia is quite an emotion!). I haven't had this much fun on consoles in a long time. Long live the PS2!

I recently bought a PS2 after 2 weeks of eBay looking and I was surprised as Tom how clean it was but even better... The void sticker was still on it and it was unopened. After a quick opening and cleaning it's running like it's fresh outta the box! Love the damn consoles.

My first console was the PlayStation. When the PS2 came out, I didn't get it until Smackdown Here Comes the Pain came out. I was so excited to play that game and boy did I. I still have that game in my collection and now that I'm a father, I can't wait for my son to be old enough to experience the PS2.

I didn't realise you said kind of, a lot, I say basically a lot or you know, 😀 I loved the Medal of Honor games and I agree I think I learnt a lot of history from video games.
The 007 games for the PS2 are pretty good, it's been a long time since we got a good 007 game, there was a few good 007 games on the PS3 as well. I remember Blood Stone was really good.

Actually bought a reverse compatible ps3 a few months back instead of a ps5 and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Even tho it was about the same price…… not even that mad about it … lol I’m able to play all of the old games I used to play absolutely great system. Appreciate the videos good content keep em coming

I love my ps2 slim. The ethernet port lets me run openGL and play my games via smb. Stream them right from my laptop. I have my original fat ps2 also that i modded with a clear shell that has a top loader. Dont need to use the disc tray with it, and made using magic swap super easy.

Out of the consoles I collect for (which is most), my PS2 collection "used to be" the largest (over 200). Now it's PS4.
Thankfully, I bought *most* of my games back when they came out, so I paid the "then" normal price (or cheaper). I did pay a bit extra for some Saturn games, such as Panzer Dragoon Saga. Anyhow, I have several "favorite" PS2 games, but some faves off the top of my head are, *Summoner 1 & 2, Shadow Hearts 1 & 2, & Drakan: The Ancient's Gates.* + more.

I like the slim for those reasons. I'm considering getting a fat and moding it to back up all my PS2 games in case of disc rot
The Sony PlayStation 2 has many amazing games but I experienced the big hits on the Sony PSP. But When It comes to the Sony PS2 I love Tekken 5, Silent Hill 3 and a other games. Cool video. ^_^
I had a PS2 from 2002 to 2008 And then I bought one again on and off for a good number of years and bought one recently It's one of my favourite consoles of all time up there with Mega drive

I remember getting my PS2 for Christmas one year, they didn’t get me a memory card so I spent 4 days or so playing over and over the first level of simpsons hit & run as homer! Good times
PS2 made sure I was happy every single day from 2008-2013. It's the best piece of hardware I have. Millions of memories on my memory cards and the wear on the controllers show it all.
If you like Need 4 Speed Underground 2. You might like SRS Street Racing Syndicate. Ace Combat was difficult for me to play so I found a more arcade style flying game, called Heatseeker. Fun game.
Heck yeah ps2 is still my favorite. Just bought a brick the other day and got rid of my slim, it didn't wanna play anything CD based. I like the brick better as well anyway.
Currently playing Gran Turismo 2 on it, looking forward to moving on to GT3
i still have ps2 SCPH3000 and still work great for long time, also PS3 CECHA01 60GB Feb 2007, I got Evercool Defender Turbo Ideal Cooling Fan and both still work very good....

You should get a RetroTink 5x for your older consoles to upscale them properly and convert them to HDMI

According to MyLifeinGaming who did an extensive episode on the PS2 here on CZcams the SCPH-39000 and SCPH-50000 are the best models to get in regard to the original phat model in terms of overall reliability. 🎮📀
Just bought a Japanese PS2 and like 120 games for it. Going through the Dragon Ball Budokai games again. And Kingdom Hearts for the very first time. 😆 Set up with a HDMI converter and using just the 8 bitdo dongles and using PS4 controllers.

I don’t know if it’s just the rubber of the analog stick’s degrading over time but my ps3 and ps2 controllers also suffer from that stickiness you mentioned and I don’t understand how they would get that way.
Recently I had a random memory wipe out with one of those aftermarket 256 mb memory cards and wonder if it has something to do with that since a real 8 mb costs around $30 and that one was under $10
Regarding you comment about the joystick on ps2 controller, is because of the age/use of the plastic, passing the years it gets sticky.
I still have my old PS2 even today, no wonder why people like the PS2 too much, I think that it is bacause of many diverse library of games, you can play many amazing games on PS2, maybe some are blinded by nostalgia, but many can't deny it that PS2 has a special place in their Childhood days... The blue disc problem is very common, I can only get mine to play once in a blue moon.

The thing is, it's only worth collecting NTSC PS2 games since they're 60hz. Us PAL guys got screwed. PCSX2 personally is the only way to enjoy PS2 nowadays especially with higher resolution
I remember many PAL PS2 titles supported 60hz, I even bought a special SCART RGB cable to play them on my CRT back in the day (without it they were black and white)

In my experience, Xbox 360 is the best value of what you pay for whst you get, unless your minecraft, that game needs to go down in price, its minecraft, it sold well, very well, in terms of ps2 though, good bit of nice games out there for 5 and under, just no first parties, or much commonly known third parties, total value of the games mentioned is 264 usd

Another worthy watch from the basement dwelling semi-retro lord. I'm pretty sure the sticky controllers, at least so far as the joysticks are concerned is due to the degradation of the rubberised coating. Having said that, I've been buying 7th Gen consoles for a while now and man, some of the caked on gunk is horrifying. Often takes some time and a handful of wipes to clean up

Edit: the OG fat PS3 at my local shops they won't even buy because they are basically destined to die no matter what. You must Frankenstein any ps2 compatible ps3 or eventually it will die.

2 things theres a 128mb card but it's not 128mb probably a 32mb regardless the third party memory cards do the trick. 2nd I bought two refurbished PS3 controllers and 2 PS2 controllers from lukiegames and 9/10. I'd say they are in used/good condition with non of the ewww factors you'd come to expect from second hand purchasing
