This was a solid watch! Good job guys!
@mechaotakugamer man I loved Radiata Stories!
Dude, this brings me back. Those buying guides were how I first got into your channel long ago. Thanks for the years of fun, brother!
Glad you like them!
It is THE Dan Vasc!!
Hell yea @DanVasc let’s get down to business!!
Yes!! 🎉
As soon as I left a comment I see yours on here. Nice surprise.
My son got a PS2 for his birthday with GTA Vice City. We ended up staying up all night taking turns trying to run over cops and driving like maniacs to escape from the cops. Good times :-)
YES! Please do more updated buying guides with Reggie!

Why? Dude stumbles over his words constantly. It’s a tough listen.
PS2 emulation has improved an unbelievable amount over just the last few years. Games that used to have visual glitches and unplayable amounts of slowdown run perfectly today. For many of us buying a PS2 along with the games isn't an option but emulation is a damn near perfect alternative, it's gotten as close to the real deal as 5th gen emulation.
How do i get emulation, or how can get play ps2 games without the console
@@samuellafontaine4857 for pc try PCSX2
For android AetherSX2
@@samuellafontaine4857 you can emulate so many different ways. Quite a few handhelds that’ll run a good chunk if not all PS2 library. You can emulate on PC. Can also make a developer account on a new Xbox and emulate that way as well.
This is true... I have recently modded my PS3 Slim and I have been enjoying my PS2 games on that... Crystal clear images, plus the ability to use any controller - currently using an offbrand "Switch" controller in my PS3 has made me enjoy playing PS2 games again.
@@DukeDudeston i gotta learn to do that
I recently went back playing Burnout Revenge and Dragon Quest 8. So many great arcade racing games and JRPGs. Two decades, and the PS2 still holds up well!
Do you dislike the high random encounter the 3ds version got rid of it
Just loaded an HDD with a ton of games on my PS2 recently. Love it!
mine stopped reading discs lately... can't lose one of the greatest game libraries of all time! gotta get one.
Pirated Games like a little roach
@@awatenokochi4855"We dont care how you play these games, we just want you to play them".
The PS2 might have no good games but still a cool system !
@@awatenokochi4855 keep crying
You and @RadicalReggie could make 1000 ps2 buyer guides and I will watch every single one and love it. Much love guys! Keep on doing the damn thang
I never had a PS2 at the time. I went PS1>Xbox. But the PS2 catalogue is without a doubt the largest, most diverse in all console history. The fact that you are stilling making videos on the subject and that I'm still finding great games to play, says it all to me. Outstanding!
Yep I agree
More people played this stuff back then I think (compared to now where you only have 10 or so games in a year)
Great video, as always! You’ve sold me. I have every modern console possible (SteamDeck, Rog Ally, Series X, PS5, OLED switch) but I feel myself being drawn to picking up something classic like the PS2. I was born in the early 90s but didn’t really find games until college so I’ve missed out on the classics!
Part of me is sad that I sold almost the entirety of my retro collection in 2023, but it had to happen and I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would. I do really still enjoy this content. Takes me back. Keep it up guys, I love seeing this stuff.
I took my ps2 out back and spray painted it green. It’s probably in a landfill somewhere by now. 😢
You needed to pay bills
Basic necessities like shelter, food & clothing > retro games😅 even as someone with around 300 games, I don’t love it as much as those without it do.
@@Ichabod_Jericho send your games to me i store them for you when you take up your mind you can take them back lol
Wish I wasn't so picky with emulation issues and playing on a CRT. Some days I think of just selling everything, I'm sure it felt liberating in a way.
So funny, I was just rewatching your old Playstation buying guide videos yesterday haha. I'm on a kick and this is awesome timing!
Hard to believe I've been watching these for almost 10 years lol. Great work man, keep it up :)
Love the PS2 my favourite console of all time. Just hit 766 games in my collection
And going for a full pal set
Man, I can’t believe you guys are doing another one of these after all this time. Been a fan of you and Reggie for so many years. Almost embarrassed to say You guys feel like best friends I’ve never met! Lol😂Keep doing what you do! Love the content!
We will!
it's that parasocial relationship at work mang
Wow what a treat for a start of the weekend. Gonna hit the like button as always and excuse myself while I'm going to order a big ass pizza and enjoy my perfect lazy Friday afternoon.
Love when I see you two come up on my feed! Great content as always my dudes
It's been a long time since you did a PS2 buying guide, MJR. This system is still a big part of my childhood. I had the Gamecube as my first console but the PS2 is my second console.
CONTROVERSIAL: due to the tendency of PS2 DVD drives to be somewhat fragile and temperamental I have to advocate using Open PS2 Loader through an HDD/network share as opposed to discs, which does make the need to buy games somewhat superfluous. This is especially true if you're going to play on a fat PS2.
Glad u guys resurrect the buying guide series!! 👏👏👏
More to come!
amazing! looking foward to it! :)@@MetalJesusRocks
Five Star video. Great PS2 coverage, extensive knowledge and clips to showcase the discussion. Keep going, you guys have momentum.
I recently purchased the Right Sprite PS1/PS2 HMDI cable. It works like a charm. Great video guys. Keep them rolling
Love that you keep doing these every now and then, found them way back and you guys still come up with games I've never heard of
Love that you guys are doing updates to these older videos the originals were great but it’s nice to see these revamped with some of the new stuff that’s out now
Brilliant buying guide, gonna look into that rad2 cable as it makes the games look awesome!
Love these type of videos, recently purchased a ps vita and searched your buying guide on it 🙏🏽
I was 13 when the PS2 came out. The jump in console gaming at that time was mind blowing. This takes me back to the days of seeing Madden 01 and SSX on the demo systems at Electronics Boutique. What a time to be alive!
When I got my PS3 I traded in my ps2 and all of the games…. I’m still kick in myself to this day about doing it.
I would love to get a system and a CRT tv again to be able to play the older generation system games again and share my childhood with my kids.
great timing. I'm just getting back into the ps2 library. Aesthetically, still the best console design of all time imo. Thankfully, one of the few older systems I never got rid of.
Thanks guys. I gave my PS2 away to a bud that was sick years ago. I stumbled upon the emulator and can relive some of these titles. Freekstyle , MX vs ATV Unleashed, Need for speed Hot pursuit 2 (tons of hours)
This video is perfect timing and really helpful. Thanks for making this.
Let's goooooo !!! New Buying guide, is it Christmas already?!
Picked up Splashdown 2 a couple years ago based on your suggestion. Phenomenal game and its only like £2-£3 here in the UK.
Thanks for the game suggestions guys.
I really enjoyed you two's video here about the PS2 and some of the additions, but the games were really enjoyable to learn about. I love learning about the classic games I had no idea about and what's funny is a game like Rogue Galaxy I have had in my physical collection and haven't played it. I'm glad that you highlighted that game that makes me glad that I have it in my PS2 collection.
Always great to see you uploading updated guides! I have a couple of stuff to add: the BlueRetro/8BitDo Wireless Adapters are great accessories too. As for the HDMI options, it's important to remember some of them may not support low resolutions and are straight out incompatible with the PS1 retrocompatibility and a lot of homebrews (as the menu of many of them is super low res). I believe most upscalers can handle this fine, but the cheap adapters such as the PS2 to HDMI meet this limitation.
I just want to say thank you , Jason for your hidden gems videos over the years. Of all the videos on Yotube I think I've found yours to be the best in this regard. I've enjoyed quite a few games I had overlooked or hadn't heard of (especially on PS2). You seem to put out some decent unknown games, plus advise on stuff pretty damned well.
Thanks again.
And wouldn't that Splashdown remater potentially be perfect for re-release on the Switch?
Thank you so much!! And yes, a Splashdown remaster would be amazing on Switch.
Fun fact, the arcade in Florence SC has initial D. It’s a cab you get inside and drive while the cab is fully mobile and suspended off the ground
does Florence SC still have the last Golden Corral in USA?
@@xman777b oh nah they’re all over the Carolina’s man.
27:00 These vids are super useful to get ideas on what games to play today on steam deck especially for those who never grew up with a ps2. It's great to experience ps2 games for the first time or revisit what you played at a friend's house ages ago.
Always loved these buying guide/hidden gems videos back in the day, they've really helped me to discover a lot of great games that I'd never even heard of before. Would love to see other systems revisited with similar videos too.
Logitech made a wireless PS2 controller that is still to this day the absolute BEST controller for the system that I've ever used. Still using the same one I had back when the system came out.
Oh crap! I have that somewhere and should have mentioned it! For a while it was my go-to controller for the PS2
@@MetalJesusRocksIf you guys use the emulator, playing these games with a Dualsense Edge is just way too good
Sony did a limited PX-300 here in UK around 2010 which is a PS3 integrated into a TV. Managed to get one a while back and really clean graphics.
Reminds me of that Japanese all in one that was I think a VGA monitor with a dreamcast built into it, the discs went in on the top. Always wanted that!
Always love when Reggie drops in and talks games with you!!! I moved recently, I’m sharing a house, and don’t have the space to setup a proper game room. I’d love to get an update on PS1, PSP, and/or DS games/hidden gems. I kept my handhelds and newer PS1 with the LCD screen, so I’d love to get some suggestions to hold me over until I can move into a bigger place and bring the rest of my retro collection back from my friend’s game room.
My absolute favourite console of all time , I still to this day buy games for it, the library is unbelievable
PS2 is like the ultimate for going back to and getting into collecting, hardy and pretty cheap to collect for and a million awesome games
Cheap? Each game I’ve bought for mine so far is $60 each.
My upscaler as $400
My HDD upgrade was around $200.
@@majorgear1021 there's no accounting for taste
@@GrigoriRasputin Sports games are probably cheap , at least for the most part
@@majorgear1021 I know there's expensive games like Silent Hill but there are actual classics under 20, even less.
PS2 games have gone up in price by a lot. Many games that were once $5 less than ten years ago are now $15+, which is a big increase even when adjusting for inflation. It's better to just find ways to play the games illegitimately.
Missed talking about the ribbon issue with the PS2 slims scratching discs. Learned that the hard way
Never had an issue with mine, but good to know!
Yes I also had discs scratched by the ribbon. It is worth checking if the ribbon is not too curved, or if the laser is working well.
@MetalJesusRocks it's a major issue with the first 2 slim models, they fixed it in the third model. There's a bunch of fixes like using, tape, glue, and even 3d printed parts. But if you weren't unaware I'd suggest checking some of your discs
@feplays007 dude it sucks so much, I had to get 3d printed parts to fix it
A video about a retro console?Metaljesus is back!
I’m watching this at least 10 times to catch up on PS2 info.
I love the PS2 fat with a bitfunx IDE to SATA adapter. The Gamestar adapter I had caused games to stutter.
I like collecting physical games but playing backups of the games from HDD. I think it’s the best of both worlds.
Just in time I started collecting my favorite PS2’s and boy I don’t remember some of the games being so expensive 😂 I just bought a CIB Fatal Frame 3 $10 more expensive than a brand new PS5 game. Really glad to see your guides again ❤️
love 007 nightfire so much on ps2 & Xbox
Yep! Those James Bond games were perfect.
As a fan I can also say that it is one of the best games of 007 of all time!
Metal Jesus Radical Reggie and the PlayStation 2 the never ending story
I love these types of videos. I used to binge watch your buying guides, the rotating cast and the deep dive into everything that system has to offer. Welcome back Reggie!
Glad you like them!
My favourite gaming duo - great video as always!
Thanks for making sure this time the PS logo was adjusted correctly 😂
You noticed. 😜
First to like and comment :). I agree. The PS2 has one of the best designs and game libraries ever. For me, it solidified Sony's position in the gaming industry. Being a PC gamer back in the day, the only thing for me that the PS2 was missing was a Hard Drive. Thanks to the PS2 we have the Xbox :)
19:00 I saw Kim Possible in your hidden gem videos and I really like it. It's one of my favorite PS2 game. It's a good old school platform game wirh a sily storry. :) Thanks for that!
lol. That game actually looks good
Please Update your Mic Quality. A Channel as big as yours has no Business sounding so Crappy. No Hate but come on Jason ;)
i must agree, such a great channel but the sound is bad. straight from hell
Indeed
Three new games less - but a good mic instead! ❤️🎤
We tried using wireless mics, but they were having difficulty connecting. So instead I used a R0de shotgun mic with a Voice Isolation filter in Final Cut Pro. That's the best I could do unfortunately. Hopefully the info was still good 👍
@@MetalJesusRocksNot really my man. Just sounds like you had a Faulty Pair and you Just gave up. The issue isnt the reverb of the room but that you Sound to far away of the Mic.
Da haste vollkommen recht!
The PS2 was awesome, and I've been going back and revisiting the library recently. There's so much great stuff to discover. Thanks for the video!
Awesome video guys! Please do more buying guides with Reggie!
Damn guys! The emulation support at the end was beautiful 😍 Have been helping building lots of different emulators over the years👍☺️
Perfect timing for this video! I started collecting ps2 stuff, just got a white ps2 fat from japan recently and been looking for an updated buyers guide
Wow i remember when you did the first ps2 buying guide its awesome to see more love for the ps2 i really enjoy these videos !!! Excited for more !!
I love your videos been watching for so long can't wait to see you finally hit 1 million subs can't think of anyone else that deserves it more
I havent watched your videos in a little while but Im so glad to see you guys are still making content. Felt like seeing old friends:)
Fantastic video guys, I'm looking to get a PS2 soon and build a collection of games, loved the PS2 when i was a kid.
Great video! Would love to see more updated buying guides! (Still go back and watch your old ones haha)
Thanks for another great video with a lot of sincere heart for the subject. Metal Jezus indeed rocks like none other
Big time exclusive sleeper for the PS2: Contra Shattered Soldier. It’s so good and was overlooked because the PS1 Contra games were trash.
im loving the reccomendations im on a ps2 kick at the minute ill look out for these ps2 games your content is amazing ive subscribed to your channel keep it up
Love these videos guys, always brings me back. I came across that Ghost hunter game a few years ago on my emulator. Very surprised how good it was. Great call out!
YES!!!! you guys making video together makes my day!!
Thank you.
Rogue Galaxy was also one of my favorite games on the PS2. Spartan: Total Warrior is also a great game if you haven't played it yet.
The PS2 is my favorite disc based system and I have most of the games I want. When K-Mart reduced them to $99 I bought 4, 1 to use and 3 for the future. I also bought several controllers and memory cards. Man I don't remember about those add-ons or items that go along with the PS2. Good showing and cool video guys!👉🙂👈
I can still remember one time where the laser on my original PS2 failed, so my dad took it to a small game shop in our town. They fixed it, and only charged like ten dollars since we were so polite through my whole laser issue. Man, I miss that store, everyone was so nice, and I got a lot of good PS2 games from that little shop
Another great video, been watching your content since 2014, love your content and hope for more to come!
My #1 allaround gaming channel!! U need to hit that 1 mil.!!! Keep it up mjr AND Radical Reggie!!" ❤
dude what.. I was JUST watching your old PS2 video looking for suggestions. This is the 2nd time you've done this to me in the past year lol.
Man, I used to love these old buying guides, Helped me build my collection ages ago. Glad to see you and reggie doing one again!
Glad you like them!
I’m glad you guys covered multiple options for PS2. I would have added the 8bitdo bluetooth adapter for modern controllers and the GBS-C for a budget option for upscaling. I think covering emulation and soft modding as an option was amazing. PS2 is a great system to collect for but some of the best games are unattainable for the average person.
Sidenote: if you soft mod the console you can also use a software upscaler called GSM if you use a component cable. It’s not perfect and doesn’t work on every game but, when it does it looks great.
Your buying guides with Reggie are always my favorite!
Mine too!
Mc2sio on my slim brings me here today because I finally got all my file formats working, but long time fan of the channel! Cheers fellas!
Crazy how time flies and its been almost 10 years since i found your channel lol
Really cool video. I can see all the effort you guys put into it.
Many thanks!
What a coincidence! I just recently got an AV to HDMI converter so I can play my old game systems on my HDTV. And I’ve been playing my PS2 the most! So many great games! I was just playing the original Killzone!
Great video, guys. Thanks for making an updated version of this.
Our pleasure!
Good thing I found your hidden gems vids years ago. I have almost all the games reggie mentioned at a fraction of their current price. Love the PS2. Still have my the 1st gen model. Still runs great 🤙
What a great video! We're lucky to have you guys talking so many great tips about the PS2.
I possible, please DO make a video about the JRPG powerhouse that was the PlayStation 2. I can remember by heart how LOTR The Third Age was a turn based game released on the hype of a movie and completely got me. Cheers from Brazil
Really cool video man long time fan here the ps2 is my favorite console I can't begin to tell you what are my favorite games lol
Love these new video updates metal jesus
Great video! Loved the PS2 era wild arms, suikoden, dark cloud, .hack loved them all oh and tribes series with a dial up modem add on FTW
Yes!!! Pumped for some new and updated buying guides!
Good timing. I’m going through a ton of ps2 hidden gems. So got some good inspiration here 👌👌
Hey metal jesus love the videos so much ❤
As always, love you guys!!!
I could watch you guys all day, awsome video 👊
Appreciate that
The Ps2 is my childhood! I remember playing games like Sly cooper 1, War of the Monsters, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and all my Ps1 Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games.
I’m so happy you guys brought up the two different slim models. It’s something not many bring up when discussing buying the PS2 consoles from what I’ve seen. I think that wasn’t mentioned in the old video either.
But they didn’t mention the different fat models
another fantastic video. really enjoyed it. reggie import collection on consoles are so refreshing to.
Samurai Western is one of the most fun games I've ever played on the PS2, that hidden gem is amazing. Great video guys!
It really is!
Haven't seen you in a while...nice vide brother!
YT Just randomly recommended a video of you guys from 8 years ago! Y'all was reviewing PSP handheld. Great to see Y'all still together making vids 😅
Love the videos especially when you and Reggie get together!
I just want to add a little context about Samurai Western. If I remember correctly, it was part of the ‘Way of the Samurai’ games (but different type of gameplay).
And if you want to talk hidden PS2 gems, those games are definitely some hidden gems / forgotten gems. I bought WotS1 & WotS2 in college on PS2 and the story / gameplay is so unique with the branching paths, multiple endings, and WotS1 was the only game in the series to have a two player 1 v 1 fighting mode (sword combat) using parts of the levels from the story.
These games aren’t perfect by any means which brings me to my final thought. In a world post Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima (and other great games in the same genre), I’D LOVE to see this series re-envisioned for modern audiences with modern trappings but having some of the same player choice options that could branch your story in several ways depending on your choices).
Anyway great video MJR! Looking forward to the next one!
