  • CAN I RUN MY 4.8L TO 7000 RPM WITH STOCK JUNKYARD VALVE SPRINGS? HOW MUCH POWER IS AN INTAKE UPGRADE WORTH ON A 4.8L? HOW WELL DOES THE BTR NSR TRUCK NORRIS CAM WORK? HOW DO I MAKE HIGH RPM POWER WITH A MILD CAM? DOES THE HI RAM HURT LOW-SPEED TORQUE ON A 4.8L? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN A CHEAP, LOW-BUCK, JUNKYARD 4.8L EQUIPPED WITH STOCK (HIGH-MILEAGE) VALVE SPRINGS TO 7000 RPM (TIME AFTER TIME). THE 7000-RPM 4.8L WAS EQUIIPED WITH A MILD BTR TRUCK NORRIS NSR CAM. THIS TEST INVOLVED COMPARING A LONG-RUNNER FACTORY TRUCK INTAKE TO THE SHORT(ER) RUNNER HOLLEY HI RAM? WHICH ONE WOULD YOU PICK?

    I'm one of those guys who would put a tunnel ram on a 4.8. I would also use a more aggressive cam & valvetrain, and port the heads. Then I'd rev it to 8k. 😛

    Im probably going to get laughed at but I own a 12 mustang 3.7 , Manley rods and pistons .020, ported intakes, Coyote throttle body, Headers catless h pipe. I built the motor personally. My best on a dynojet through a 6r80 355 gears circle d 3c convertor 326whp @ 7100 /306wtq 5400. 12.5 @ 108 mph 1/4 here in Florida. Im in the process of doing a Holley ram swap in place of stock ported intake to try to push peak power out to 7200-7500 rpm. I know this video has nothing to do with a dohc engine but its neat seeing the difference the intake manifold does

    I enjoy these videos but hope people dont get fooled into believing that big lift long duration cams are the best idea when running fast on the street. A small displacement motor with a giant long duration cam will probably be the slowest car on the block if the car doesent have the required low gears and high stall speed converter to allow the engine to operate in the needed higher rpm where the engine makes power and torque. A stock 4.8 engine making 340 hp will probably run circles around a overcamed 4.8 engine even if the overcammed engine makes twice the hp but it needs to be spinning 8000 rpm to do so.. Most street cars need less peak hp at super high rpm where it never is used ,and more average hp spread over the entire rev range from idle to redline..

    • @richardholdener1727
      @richardholdener1727  Před 10 měsíci

      this was a sub 500 lift, 212 intake cam-so over cammed isn't accurate

    • @kevindoherty2716
      @kevindoherty2716 Před 10 měsíci

      Your cam this time is fairly small compared to what you usually run but 212 @ 50 thou is still a lot more then the stock that I think we're around 190 /191.. It doesn't take much to overcam a puny 4.8 liter engine to begin with as they move so little air. I'd like to see you post video of the idle quality at a reasonably low rpm with the 212 cam with a four barrel carb and the vehicle idling in gear and a stock torque converter. Sure it runs good above 3500 but you never show how they idle and the power from idle through say 3000 rpm which may be 99 percent of where a normal vehicle operates as a daily driver. Torque at low revs under 3000rpm will probably be much lower with the aftermarket cams especially on a tiny 4.8
