First Ever-Best Driver’s Car Grand Prix

- Welcome to the inaugural Best Driver’s Car Grand Prix! For the first time ever, as part of the Best Driver’s Car competition, an international cast of MotorTrend talent from five different countries descend upon WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to have themselves a little race. The rules are simple-the first car across the finish line after three laps wins! However, before a single wheel gets turned in anger, the competitors must compete in a little drift-off to determine who drives what. The bad news for five of the six competitors? One of the drifters is three-time Formula Drift champ Chris Forsberg! But the bad news for Forsberg and most of the others is that one of the racers is Randy Pobst, the man who has set more lap records at Laguna Seca than he can remember! MK2 124 he’s been on this track many times. He doesn’t need great reflexes if he’s racing on a track he knows like the back of his hand.

Randy probably wouldn't have braked late & understeered deep in turn 2 in the Supra on Lap 2... really surprised to see Supra leading for a lap haha thought it was gonna get demolished immediately

Not when the 2012 Boss 302 beat the Audi R8 and the 911 Turbo on this track, I knew that GT350 was going to do well.

Mustang is extremely impressive holding its own like that. The only manual transmission car on the grid, not much more expensive than the Supra if at all, just goes to show the potential that thing has!

I'm proud to see how my favorite car has progressed from a nostalgia piece I have (2005 GT) to a genuinely competitive racecar that you can drive home and be comfortable in. I love Mustangs so much.

Was saying that the Mustang has progressed from what I own, a 2005 GT, a nostalgia piece that couldn't compete on a track to the GT350 which is a beast. Progression of the Mustang as a whole, not mine specifically.
I have an 18 GT350R and I can attest to the fact that they are amazing track cars.

@@arapaimagold8088 Even so, if they wreck the cars manufacturers will be less likely to loan them cars in the future. There's only so many 600 LTs around, for example, yes they can make more but it still it removes one car from McLaren's press fleet for a while and having to figure out how to source another 600 LT for anyone they had promised to loan it out to in the mean time.
Also Randy set most of the records in Leguna so it's he has more experience in the track. I would've like to see him in the GT350 to be honest.
Plus when MT test cars with Randy it's always at laguna, it's almost his track.

Best Motoring struggled to obtain enough interest because of the lack of subtitles so if someone else can do it on a track similar to Tsukuba then we are golden!

Is it me or did that feel hella staged? Fosberg went way wide and just let everyone slide after lap 1 and mr mclaren left the door wide open for randy in that last turn. Meh...
If you see a real race they will actually crowd corners enough to bump each other. I have a feeling that they were told to take the corners wide if they felt like they couldn't manage. Better to go slow than to wreck an expensive car.
I have a feeling the reason the Senna was pulled was because the result was decided before the race started and McLaren said no to their top track car losing. Look at how fast the LT gained ground halfway round the last lap then suddenly went back to snail pace so the hero in the favourite car can go by on the last turn.
So scripted its pathetic to watch and pointless to do.
Its either really badly staged, or were REALLY carefull with the cars ( although they drove the m2 right off the track ) or they arent even racing drivers...

The GT 350 continues to surprise me. Would love to see a R version out there though to see how it stacks up. Never the less great race for all car makers.
Well for 2020 you know it's going to be the GT500 in the Best Driver's Car mix. But it's going to have its work cut out for it, the new C8 will probably be there too.

A gt500 isn't really a supercar. Not even really a supercar killer really. Just a 760 hp mustang
