    I have 24 Mazda 3, and didn’t get a 12 volt outlet. I run my dash cam using a portable charger. I will have SIL look into doing this.

    May I know how can you seal the socket to the center console?

    • @jekburri
      @jekburri  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You can either do it the bad way: Glue gun
      Or you can do it the right way: pull the center console up and screw it on with the cog that came with the socket

      @kit6257 I haven't yet. I did it the bad way by temporarily glue gunning it 😅 I will try today and see if I can, if so I'll make a video.

    I plan to get the Preferred trim Sedan and wonder if it comes with it? Good job on installing your own. :)

      It does not... :( It only comes with the 12V if you pay for the highest model GT or carbon edition. Very poor on Mazda this year!

    Hi, can you share your 12v socket link?🙏 And is it still supplying power when engine off?

    • @jekburri
      @jekburri  Před 3 měsíci

      The exact one I got they no longer sell but they have a bunch of exact same ones on Amazon.
      As for the power, theres a switch on the socket to turn it on and off so you can either do what I did and tap into constant powered fuse and remember to shut it off OR you can tap into a fuse that only has power with ignition.

    Is that fuse switched power? Thank you!

      I'm sorry, I don't understand. I think your asking if i'm connecting the red power wire to the fuse? yes, with a fuse-tap

    What are the concerns in doing this with regards to causing major problems somewhere else in the electrical system or with the computer. I've heard horror stories of people hooking stuff up to these newer vehicles and frying the computer. Also exactly what does F-16 on the fuse box power?

    • @jekburri
      @jekburri  Před 4 měsíci

      Oh wow, that would be the worst thing ever 😬
      I've never heard of that occuring unless you were to tap into the fuse box incorrectly as there are 2 ways you can plug the fuse-tap in. If you were to plug the fuse-tap in the incorrect way it *could* (highly doubt it) cause damage to your electrical system but that's usually only on very old cars or poorly made cars (cough cough Hyundai or Kia).
      The F-16 fuse powers the "Illumination" fuse which is what toggles the brightness on your dash from HIGH and LOW (driving in the dark or during the day)
      I turned the car on and test drove it with the fuse unplugged to see if it'll be safe if it blows and everything worked fine, the illumination on the dash just stays on HIGH.
      Hope that helps :)

    When I removed the kick panel cover I see something that is covering all the fuses I have no idea what it is or how it comes off do you have any guidance?

      Sorry for the super late reply, I hope you had success in the meantime.
      As for the cover, it's to my knowledge just a protector panel/beauty cover. You do not need to worry about that. The fuse tap will fit with that beauty cover on so I recommend keeping that attached.

    Thanks

    Will this void the warranty?

    • @jekburri
      @jekburri  Před měsícem

      It's a tricky topic.. TLDR; No, but you definitely can...
      Basically, if you run into electrical problems post install because you shorted something/messed something up in the process, yes. You will void your warranty.
      If it never leads to any electrical problems then no, this will not void your warranty.
      The only time someone will see this is when you bring your car in for service routinely. Car mechanics don't typically inspect vehicles electric components unless there is a specific reason to.
      There are soooo many drivers who have dashcams these days, and for 50% of them it requires you to tap into fused power.
      Hope that helps, and eases your worries :)
