Thanks to this video I just discovered that I have had all along the official Mazda SD card that came with my CX-5 when I bought it. Now that I've used it and compared it to Google Maps navigation I can tell you that it's funcional but Google Maps is way better system. And I'm sure the same applies to Apple Maps. So if you dont have the SD card you're not missing much. But if you want to have one as a backup as Striker suggest it's OK to play $25-$50 for one. Don't go buy SD card for $450 from the dealership. Mazda should be giving their SD card for free to every Mazda owner.
Completely agree, great backup but those OEM prices are wild
For people that like the turn by turn on their HUD (if available) it can make navigation more seamless. Wish carplay and such integrated on the HUD
But you still get the traffic sign and speed recognization which is worth $25 alone imo
They’re free here in the UK 😂
@@ianshelton9615 Really?? How so
Google Map is forever! They update every day. This card sometime is backward and needs to update.

Absolutely 🤘
I was searching for a video to show mE how to install my navigation SD card. I am so glad I found this one. Easy to understand and information. TFS!

Do remember to pay attention to the details when ordering, unless you have this specific model then it should be a breeze.
I'll be making other videos showing the Nav more in depth. But wanted this vid to be more digestible
Do you end up installing it?
Great info, and explained thoroughly for the neophyte in all of us!
Thanks 🙏 That's what got me to start making videos; too many creators cut corners and didn't explain thoroughly enough, so I wanted to try to make sure the majority of people understand 👌

Thanks for this video. Very insightful. For the first time, honestly i found an affiliate product at a more competitive price than those found through my own search on Amazon. Appreciate your honest update. I am ordering this now, hoping it works well. *fingers crossed* Have a good one!
Glad i could help! I didn't expect this video to get so popular, so some sellers have sold out of SD cards since I made this vid, but still very good pricing options. I was going to pay $76 for an SD before I looked into this and before making the video.

This is so awesome man, thank you! I had a 2017 cx-5 GT with premium package and I loved the factory nav and traffic sign recognition with it. I was disappointed when I found out I had to buy that $450 sd card from mazda for the 2021 cx-5 GT reserve I just bought a month ago. But clearly I don't need to buy it! Thanks so much for this!
Yeah, my guess is Mazda wants to rake in money through people that pay for "official" map updates. I'm super thankful there's a cheap alternative from aftermarket.
Even without a HUD, it makes so much sense for such a low price to get navigation (but not the crazy dealer price)
I want to test more things like how it works with voice commands and Android auto, etc.
My Honda Accord is a 2013 for example, and Honda still wants me to pay $150 to update the maps for the GPS 😂 WITH A CD! That said, even those 10 year old maps show 99% of all roads I've ever driven on
🤙Of course. More Mazda videos to come 👍

The traffic sign recognition in my ‘23 CX-5 Signature is operated by the Forward Sensing Camera as well as the navigation system. So Nav is not required for TSR.
From my understanding what I read in forums, the SD card is included with the top signature trim which is why it is the only trim that is marketed with Navigation from factory. I believe the SD card itself that enables the TSR. It would make sense for Mazda (and more cost effective) to include an SD card with the signature trim, instead of giving it tech exclusive to just the Signature. Of course I may be mistaken, but from a business perspective, companies operate on efficiency usually, instead of exclusivity.
Why do you need traffic sign recognition, can you not see the traffic signs through the windscreen, plus other things that might be going on like other cars, pedestrians, dogs, children, horses, potholes to avoid. Scantily clad young ladies in summer, I might be old, but it does not stop me noticing them, just in case they change their minds ( womans perogotive) and cross the road with out looking. Its called observation of body language, not perving.

After asking the receptionist at a local restaurant I found out where the Mazda dealer was located. Found out the dealership is new so in 2017 it was a prairie & THAT is why an updated Navigation SD card is needed. Hello, thabk you very much for useful information. is it possible to copy europian countries maps to sd cards you mentioned?
Glad it is helpful 👍
Try checking Amazon or eBay for your country
Instead, assuming your phone's data plan can stand it and your Mazda Infotainment kit has built-in Apple Car Play (or Android Auto), I suggest getting a CP/AA dongle that lets you work wireless.
The CP/AA gadget costs about the same as the bootleg Mazda Maps SD and has tons more flexibility (Waze w/traffic, Pandora, iHeart Radio, Messages, Phone, etc). Plus, it does NOT require a subscription that expires, like Mazda Maps.
When I bought my 2021 CX-5 GTR, I beavered around and took the bootleg Mazda Maps route. The SD I bought was Mazda car model and trim level specific. Anyway, at first I was afraid it might void my warranty, but in the end, everything worked out OK. In fact, Sirius Radio offers a traffic add-on that works well with the Mazda Map set-up.
Still, after lots of fussing around, I find the Mazda Map SD/radio set-up too restrictive for my taste. As such, next year when my Maps subscription expires... if asked to renew, I plan to pass in favor of wireless Car Play, or Android Auto.
My 2 cents... M 😁
Oh wow I think you're the first person that has gotten the subscription. As for the trim specific I believe that is made up marketing since the cards work for all trims. The wireless dongle is true. I have since seen them pop up all over tiktok and have considered trying it out, but for now there's no immediate need. Thanks for the 2 cents!

I have a 2014 Mazda 6 with the Tom Tom navigation which is pretty archaic compared to Google Maps but it’s still good to have as a backup. The way to update that system is to insert the SD card into my computer and then open the Tom Tom program and update the maps. Unfortunately this process stopped working maybe 3 years ago. It used to be free but now it’s not. I would be happy to pay the fee in order to have up to date maps but whenever I try to do so there’s an error that will not allow me to pay and so I am stuck with obsolete maps. I asked the Mazda dealer if there’s a way to update the maps and they told me that I have to swap the whole infotainment unit for an aftermarket one, which I absolutely refuse to do because I like to keep the car original. So I wonder if I can get an updated SD card for my car so I can update the maps.
I am not familiar with the older style nav. Sounds like you may be better off using a phone mount and Google Maps.
3 year old maps also will probably have 99.5% of the roads. I'd imagine a 10 year old navigation takes much longer to use and input than on a cell

I mean best practice is to download the map of the area through Google maps in advance of your trip, so this doesn't help someone who is prepared. What it does do though is unlock a feature that's already on your car and essentially paywalled, which is really annoying. I have the HUD and I'm looking forward to getting that working with maps as intended. Thanks.
I've also read that it's possible to run the Mazda navigation simultaneously with Google maps, so that's worth checking in to see if you can get it to work.
Good point Keep in mind if someone is doing a longer road trip, that is quite an excess amount of maps that would have to be downloaded. And there always is a chance that a phone could break or stop working. I had my phone completely bust when I landed on it on a cycling trip after wiping out. The paywall is crazy though
This is cool, but it’s such a shame the dealership cards are so expensive. When I bought my Mazda, the salesperson very briefly brought up the navigation and since I had an iPhone they just said I could just use CarPlay. The idea of having offline maps is so cool.
Yup it's fantastic as a back up I didn't even hesitate to get it since it's priced so low. Sometimes the phone isn't pairing or we may not feel like connecting into the cable
Do you have the link to the SD card for Asia maps? I’m based in Singapore - 2016 Mazda 6
Oh man that sounds very specific. Have you checked Amazon and eBay?
Thanks for this info. I read some comments in online forums that Mazda can somehow brick/blacklist your VIN from future updates for having an aftermarket SD card installed. Has anyone seen this happen and could they do that? I don't know if that's true or just b.s. comments. I wouldn't want to risk future updates to the car's computer for other reasons.
I would take it with a grain of salt. What I understood is that the SD Card "burns" to your VIN after 50 miles of driving, so that you're not sharing the card with other cars. I personally don't care for the maps to be constantly updated, if even possible at this point with the aftermarket method. I have a 2013 Accord and those 2013 maps show everything I would need as a back up measure. For daily traffic navigating, I use Google maps anyway

Hi mate will that work in Australia? Im actually looking for it hope you can help me Mazda cx-5 2017
Mazda BPD966EZ1D SD card Australia / New Zealand Check Navi World this should be what you're looking for
Do you only sell these cards on Amazon? I don't have an Amazon account.
I don't sell them, I just make it easier for people to find them. Amazon usually has free returns in case it doesn't work.
Navi-World is a GREAT site to find these cards on too
do you know if this will work for 2017 cx5? if not, is there a way to get updated maps for that model? thank you
Yup, the BHP1 card 💪
I have ordered 2 cards from Amazon and cannot get it to on my 2024 CX5. I sent the first back thinking it might be a bad card, but I think the chances of two bad cards is very small. Is there anything else I need to do? I have followed your instructions but I never get the map. Thanks
The 2024 uses the KMV6 card because it now has touch screen ability. I linked the card in my bio let me know if that helps!
Hey, that’s in Alhambra. I used to live there.
Nice yeah it's a cool tucked away park here
Thanks for your sharing. Is the card you showed us works for my 2022 CX5 Premium Plus? Or any T2DK-66-EZ1 will work? Thanks.
You're welcome, and any should work, I just like to link the ones that offer free returns in case they don't work.
@@Striker50_ Thanks for you answer. Almost all T2DK-66-EZ1 cards said they work on 7 - 8 inch display. I wonder, I have a display size just like you, but it is a 10.25 inches display. Will it still work? Sorry for bothering. BTW, your link is expired, bro.
I can't confirm that the TD2K works on the smaller screens. That would be the BHP card for the 8 inch screens.
The TD2K would work for the 10.25'' screens
The KVM6 is for the 12'' screens and the 2024 CX-5 which is random, but I think because the 2024 cx-5 uses the wireless carplay/etc.
No worries, here to answer questions. Thanks for letting me know, I updated the BHP and KVM6 card options, but it looks like the TD2K is sold out, so I will find and link a new one with good reviews and free returns@@starkilowe439
@@Striker50_ Thanks. If TD2K works with 10.25 screens, I can start searching for one. If it happens you have a reliable product with good support, do let us know the new link.
Yup, link is the same that I have pinned, and I added 3 new TD2K options when you follow the link@@starkilowe439
Question for anyone, does the TSR function work (same model and trim as shown in video) if not using the maps? As in using carplay maps or just using carplay in general for music?
Yup, as long as you have the memory card in, TSR should always work. You do not need to have a set route with the Mazda maps for the TSR to work
Looks awesome.. I'm gonna try the "generic" chip.. didn't see the extra add on thing.. Is that because of the package..i got 23 Carbon & 24 cx5 last week.. That 10.25 screen distance should be sweet
What do you mean by "add-on"? As in the online website of Mazda?
@@Striker50_ I thought you mentioned a 25$ add on as a upgrade.. wasn't sure as to some unknown extra features.. My bad
. I think the digital form of mirror to your windshield is available on the turbo models... Looks really cool
@@chrisrice963 Ah ok I understand you better now. The OEM memory card is about a $450+ tax dealer add-on for the navigation SD card itself.
The $25 upgrade almost any newer Mazda owner can do it get an aftermarket SD card and get 98% of the OEM features (the 2% being the ability to update maps which I don't think is too important)
The HUD (heads up display) that is on the windshield is for the Premium Plus trim (non-turbo) and up I believe.
I saw the Carbon in person and actually really liked the burgundy leather. It looked way more lipstick red 💄 in some videos but looks so much nicer in person
@@chrisrice963 The extra features for many Mazda owners are that they get Satellite navigation which is very well integrated into the car, and for higher trims, even more features with the HUD and such 👌
Thank you for your review on the maps. I bought a CX5 2024 preferred. I did buy the updated card and installed it but I cannot get the information on the windshield or dashboard. Can you help an old lady? Thanks
Thank you for taking the time to reach out
The windshield is a specific feature to the Premium Plus trims and up which is referred to as HUD- Heads Up Display
Congratulations on the new ride by the way!
@@Striker50_Thanks!.
Bummer! I was hoping to be able to keep my eyes ahead. I did use Here we go before on my phone, but it was always too late telling me the next move and thought by having it on the windshield it would be better. I guess I needed to spend more money to get the Premium.😂 Thanks a lot and keep up the good work. Hope you do more videos about the CX5. I need a lot of help with all the new technology!
@@ap-xr1gh Yup I used to miss some turns because of delays

Do you know where I could get a navigation SD card with 2023 maps for my 2023 Mazda 3?
I have the link in the description of the video, and the pinned comment as well pinned for your convenience
To get 2023 maps you would have to go with the OEM card from Mazda that is a lot more expensive
Thanks for the video, I'm driving a new mazda cx 30. I purchased a TD2K66EZ1 card from your Amazon affiliate link, it works only on my upgrade display but i can not get HUD display on the windshield. It shows speed limit on my dashboard no stop sign. Do you have any idea, recommendations or advice.
Thanks
Is your vehicle equipped with HUD? Not all trims come with HUD that's why I ask.
I know the CX-30 settings are slightly different depending on the year, perhaps you may check through HUD settings and see if TSR (traffic sign recognition) is an applicable setting
Thanks for your reply. Maybe my vehicle is not equipped with HUD,There is no hud setting. Anyway I am quite happy with the speed limit sign on my dashboard and a backup GPS as you suggested. It's OK to spend $25 for all these. Thanks again for the helpful video.
Do you have to have a heads up display on your cx30 to have traffic sign recognition?
I don't think so because if you notice it shows by the speedometer as well. I think it's using the front radar cameras located by the rearview mirror for tsr
Big question is: Is this a better option than just using CarPlay/ Android Auto for nav?
I wouldn't say it's a "better" option, but definitely a great alternative/ supplement. People may find convenience in not having to plug their phone in, and some people with the HUD can appreciate the turn by turn shown on the windshield. I found it quite easy to use honestly and it's convenient enough. Again, Android auto etc. is great, but for short trips around town, or when in an area with no cell service, etc it's nice to have
i never update my 2016.5 cx5, and went on a trip around 2018-2019 winter i forgot exact year. the NAV system for Montreal QC sucks when they blocked a bridge crossing for maintenance, i have no idea how to find another route in its NAV. i have to use use google map XD
Yup that is the downside with a lot of car navigations, they are not live time, so it does not show construction, and closures.
Google Maps is always great
i just got a new mazda 3 , (its the i GT version, its made for buy it in mexico) but it only has usb-c , can i put an sd card reader and maybe it will work this way?
The SD card slot should be under the arm rest like this one next to the USB C
Hi, I have a 2017 Mazda3 and a 2021Mazda CX30. Will the navigation SD card from Amazon work with those two models?
I don't know much about the Mazda 3, does that one have navigation ability as well?
As for the cx30 the card will absolutely work
@@Striker50_ Thank you
in Aliexpress will be 17$...and will work on any Mazda with navigation, need to chose your rigon only..and it will work for 3 years free update..then need to buy new one
Remember you can only get updates with OEM Mazda card. Depending on your country AliExpress may be good, but some make you pay for your returns
Hi,
Does this sd card require a special firmware version to work? Or does it work with all versions?
I have 2015 Mazda 3 power sense.
I'm living in Istanbul. Which SD card should i order?
Thanks
This sounds like the card that may cover Turkey, and the smaller screen: Bjm7 66 Ez1g
I cannot say 100% if it will work, but that's what came up

I purchased one. Seems to work fine. Can it be updated with Mazda Update Toolbox?
I am 99% sure it does not because it will recognize it as an aftermarket card from what I have read and if I am responding correctly to your inquiry
Mine works with toolbox, I just updated but I am under the 3 yr free update when I bought new. It was a card ordered from Amazon, not sure if the same as yours but works fine, lasts a long time.@@Striker50_
Last Thursday I took CX-5 for a test drive and Heads up display successfully shows directions and distances for navigation coming from Android Auto.
That's awesome, it's great to hear the newer ones are providing more tech.
Nonetheless SD card is a great map backup for rural areas
do these use voice directions as well as showing the turns?
As an the directions are played on the speakers?
@@Striker50_ yes true voice spokan directions on the vehical speakers.
I do appreciate your video, but have a question. You mention the codes and that is appreciated. Looking at Amazon, it states the chip is associated with the car you bought when you insert it and you cannot use it in another Mazda. That is fine. However, if you keep the car for 10 years the map would be 12 years old by the time you got rid of the car. If you buy this cheap card that is slightly out of date, are you stuck with it or can you at a later date get a Mazda card that is updated? Do you know? Thank you.
(From what I read, I do not know how accurate this is) It locks to your car essentially so it's not transferrable. I do not know how true that is since I do not have 2 Mazdas to test it on, otherwise I would gladly test.
As you saw, they said the car had to be off when installing the car, but I had the car on, and the Map card still installed
You're never "stuck" with the card. Can always remove it at any point and insert another one. My 2013 Accord has 11 year old maps and they still work great. Consider these a back up measure to Android Auto, etc.
You can always get an official OEM Mazda card, though I would be mind blown as to why someone would want to spend around $500 plus $100+ map updates thereafter. I would rather buy a Garmin, or actual GPS for that price. Keep in mind this is already kind of old technology, and that's why for $25-$50, it's a great back up.
Honda every year sends me mail to update my maps for $150 to the latest one. There is no need since my maps show virtually all of the streets here in Los Angeles, and I have my cell phone that I use for accurate live traffic
@@Striker50_ Thank you for your detailed feedback. Was not trying to see if I could move the chip or not - will only have one Mazda myself. But it seems that you can add a new chip whenever you want but wanted to confirm with you since you own the car (I am literally buying one that is a 2023 that is slightly used with less than 4000 miles for a massive discount). I don't know what we will do but we will definitely follow this great instruction and use a map that is 2-3 years old for at least the next few years. Thank you!
Absolutely. I want to make sure I provide the best feedback to my ability. Got it. Yes you can add a new SD card 4 years from now. Kind of like a picture camera with SD Cards. You can always change the card.
Awesome! That is exactly how we got our 2023. Such an amazing value and the cherry on the top was the 7 year/ 100k extended warranty. These cars are super reliable as is, but that added peace of mind is incredible value. @@Buc_Stops_Here
@@Striker50_ Got the chip today, I had to turn off the car, install it, turn it on, not recognized, turn off the car again, remove it, reinstall it, restart the car - and it worked! Thanks so much - it was not as easy as yours but it definitely did the trick for a lot less money!
@@Buc_Stops_Here That's great news! Thanks for following up with your experience!
This serves as a good back up, or even if you don't like connecting phones, I think is always A good option and can possibly add some value if ever sold in the future
Huh? My car, 2023 CX-30 Premium Plus came with an official Mazda SD card. Did you call your dealer to confirm?
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Did you mean to respond to a comment thread?
@@Striker50_ my point is I think you should have got a nav card with your trim. May be worth checking out with dealer
@@lowstandar Only the Signature comes with the SD card.
Keep in mind; if the dealer is giving the SD card, they either somehow worked it into the price, placed it as an add-on, or on rare occasion z gave it as a deal sweetener.
But by default the card is not included
I have a 2024 CX-5 Premium (non turbo) without the heads-up display. Should speed and traffic sign recognition still appear in the dash? Mine seems to put it on the map on the 10.25 inch display only. Thanks!
By dash do you mean by the speedometer cluster?
Interesting, I wonder if for non-HUDs if it shows it on the 10.25'' screen since I haven't heard anyone mention it. Wonder if it's for all non-HUDs, or just the 2024
@@Striker50_ Hi, yes, speedometer cluster. Was really hoping it would, nice feature. Let me know if you hear anything. Thanks!
@@Striker50_One correction. !0.25 inch displayed speed limit, not speed limit sign. I think maybe that was just the Navigation system and not the TSR?
I wouldn't be able to speak on the details for the non-hud since I haven't personally interacted with it, but you could be the first to share info! It may be possible that speed limit sign and traffic sign are reserved for the upper trims@@paco728
So I got one and it works, however, if I pull the card out the maps stop working. I thought this would be loaded into memory and we wouldn't need the card anymore. Then we could use a memory card with music on it or something. Or did I do something wrong?
I ordered the one you described for my 2023 Turbo, but the sticker on the one I received looks different. It says (logo) Mazda, USA/CAN/MEX, TD2K 66 EZ1A, Maps by HERE, Made in Japan
More logos: SDHC, FCC, CE
Gotta leave the card in 📩
Pop it in if it works it works 😬
@@Striker50_ I edited my comment to add more details
@@matsudakodo Perhaps the sellers keep them generic for liability purposes. But again, if the maps come up when you put the card in, then you know they work and they should continue to work so long as the card remains inside. It's possible that sellers sell in batches so they could look a little different. I like the peace of mind from Amazon because of I get issues I can just send it back for a full refund
I purchased a memory carc from amazon and when i insert it, it still says i need to unlock the nav unit. any help? I have a 2021 CX5.

Mazda USA is giving me a SD Card with an E-gift to the dealership. Do I need to do anything specific to it, or will it work when I Install it?
@@cherylhemmendinger Yup should work as soon as you Pop it in
If you're leasing a Mazda and you use this card are you voiding your warranty?
(my opinion) since you're not making a physical modification to wiring or anything, nothing will be affected. When you return the lease you can simply remove the card and it would be like it never had navigation.
Think about putting a burned CD for music in a car back in the day, it doesnt change anything
Just bought this car. Used no card. It's a 2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand touring. Which card for 2020 (be able to upgrade)
