‼ *UPDATE 5.15.2024:* All Alaska Airlines Visa Signature cardholders can now pay their rent through Bilt (after linking their card) and earn 3X Alaska Miles per dollar spent. This is subject to a maximum of $50,000 spent annually on rent (beyond that, earn 1X) and also subject to a 3% fee. Alaska Cardholders can also earn bonus Bilt Points when using their linked card on neighborhood spend through Bilt Dining, Lyft rides and Bilt’s fitness partnerships.
‼ *UPDATE 5.10.2024:* Douglas Elliman residential owners are now be able to pay their monthly condo and co-op fee payments through Bilt and earn rewards and benefits at home and in their neighborhood.

    - Bilt Gold - Save 10% off BLADE airport flights, plus access to BLADE lounges even when not flying.

‼ *UPDATE 2.29.2024:* In the Bilt Rewards elite tiers, Platinum Status now includes (a) dedicated support and (b) Air France KLM Flying Blue Gold status for 12 months. You can activate the status after transferring 10,000 points from Bilt into the program and completing the status match in the app.
‼ *UPDATE 11.08.2023:* At 6:44, Marriott Bonvoy is now a hotel transfer partner & award availability is viewable in the Bilt app!

‼ *UPDATE 5.17.2023:* The Bilt terms now include the following: "You acknowledge that Bilt has a policy whereby it may hard reject *(i)* any individual rent payment in an amount over $20,000 (unless you contact Bilt at support@biltrewards.com for approval prior to initiating the transaction) and *(ii)* any attempt to make more than one rent payment to one payee within a 30 day period (exclusive of NSFs or blocked or returned payments). Rejected payments may result in you incurring fees or penalties from your property manager or other third party service providers." 🔗 See the current terms here: www.biltrewards.com/terms/bilt-services-terms-of-use
‼ *UPDATE 4.29.2023:* The Bilt Team apparently admitted their chatbot (shown at 23:33) was incorrect to some degree about using the Bilt Rent Account (i.e. routing # and account #) for non-rent charges. While some things may still work, I'd personally be careful. The reply it now gives is: _"You can only use our Pay Rent Online feature for rent and rent-related charges. These charges may include rent or additional charges from your landlord, like utilities or maintenance."_ See this post by Frequent Miler for more info: frequentmiler.com/amassing-bilt-rewards/

    🏆 *Why I ranked Bilt #1…*
    1. It rewards the BIGGEST EXPENSE most people have (Housing/Rent), a category that was previously non-rewardable with any other card. And it does it WITHOUT FEES.
    2. It has some of the BEST TRANSFER PARTNERS in the industry, including Air Canada, Turkish Airlines, Hyatt, and American Airlines (which neither Citi nor Barclays were able to accomplish).
    3. It’s an EXCELLENT credit card for dining at restaurants (3X points). It also offers additional ways to earn points & high-value promotions that can actually be worth doing.
    4. Points have a MINIMUM redemption value of 1.25¢ each for travel via the Bilt portal (this rivals the Chase Sapphire Preferred).
    5. It offers ALL of the above (and more) with NO Annual Fee and NO Foreign Transaction Fees, PLUS insurance protections.

The Bilt Mastercard is an absolute game-changer in my opinion. If anything, I think it will force other major lenders to make some changes to their credit card products and more competition among lenders is always good for consumers. This was a really comprehensive guide here, Mark. Great work man!

I received the second email you mentioned on the video, earn 5x for the next 5 days. Bilt Mastercard is such a great card especially on the first day of the month. It would be nice, if they add grocery and gas categories to make it more appeal for an essential card. On paper it looks so much better than the CSP , because of the 1x rent and no annual fee. Thanks for the breaking down the video step by step like you always do, Mark!

Mark - great video, very informative, and many thanks. I've been waiting for this card to add the pay via ACH method to be able to use it and great to learn that they have done so. My one question is regarding "rent day". What triggers the bonus - purchases actually made on "rent day" or when they post? I would hope it's the former, but we all know that transaction date vs posting date can be a frustrating thing when trying to take advantage of CC offers/bonuses/coupons.

    • @MarkReese

Rent Day Bonuses = purchases made on the 1st of the month.

  • @OfficialChadsMoneyMinutes

I can't lie I really like this card, I use it for HOA fees and this is the only card I use on the first of each month.........ESPECIALLY to eat.....that 6x is clutch. The value that the card offers can make this card a strong contender for other homeowners and a great supplement to the AA miles balance if so desire as they are the only direct AA travel partner. Thanks for the breakdown!

That it doesn’t do mortgages is the only reason I haven’t picked it up, though on Reddit, there are some data points saying they have used it effectively (at least for some period of time) w/o being flagged, especially when the lender is WellsFargo.
That could end up being how they do it. Maybe you ONLY get points with WellsFargo, or you get 1ppd w/ WF and .5ppd w/ everyone else.
I live in the Bay Area and my portage is $6500+ so I’d take half the points if that’s what it takes to get any.

I've had this card since July of 2022
I have already used the points to top off various airline redemptions and the card is overall amazing! Even though I live in a mid-size city, Austin, TX, it's still beneficial for rent payments. There was a strange hack that affected a large amount of customers early 2023 who held this card, so similar advice for any card, be sure to check for any suspicious activity

      Likely any of the following...
      - Cards earning 2% on all purchases.
      - Any card you like with a new welcome bonus (large purchases like insurance premiums are a great way to meet signup bonus requirements to get a huge return from a new card)
      - State Farm Premier Cash Rewards Visa Signature Card if you're with State Farm (it earns 3% back).

We added this to our portfolio and honestly it might replace the sapphire preferred card in my wallet. United is usually the most available airline where we live and Hyatt is obviously the best hotel transfer partner out there. The fact that we can utilize both of those transfer partners, for free, is a HUGE benefit. And the fact that rent can go on this card already allows us to earn more points every month for those transfer partners than we would with chase cards. Not to mention the same 3x match on dining. It’s really shaking up our approach and I’m kinda digging it. Great video as always!

Points are only worth 0.55¢ each when redeemed for certain things, like cash back.
      For travel, they're 1.25¢ at a minimum.
So if you earn 3X points and value them at 1.25¢ each, then that's a 3.75% return.

The 100K cap represents that maximum amount of points someone can earn via rent payments per year. So, that person would be paying $8,333.34/mo. in rent to earn that 100K. If rent were even more, then they'd still earn no more than 100K total points.

From an "earn points on rent" perspective, no. From an "earn points on dining & travel + no annual fee + access to transfer partners + insurance protections" perspective, the card can still make sense.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před rokem +1

If you're referring to paying your rent automatically, then no, I don't believe you can do that on the Bilt app or Wells Fargo app. "Rent autopay" would be set up on your rent portal to automatically charge whatever payment method you choose. If your landlord offers the ability to charge your rent each month, then you should be able to associate your Bilt Rent Account with it.
If you're referring to paying off your Bilt Mastercard balance automatically each month when your statement is due, then yes, you can set that up on Wells Fargo. Depends on your strategy / what you prioritize.
Looking at it long term, it could be worth a 5/24 slot if earning 1X on rent will yield _more rewards_ than earning 3X-5X Chase points on other categories you don't have covered.
That said, looking at it short term, Chase cards offer signup bonuses in Year 1, and those will likely put you way ahead of what the Bilt card could do in total rewards value.
For that reason, I'd say it's likely best to focus on Chase cards first while under 5/24 (provided there are Chase cards you want).

How come someone say PP Select is more superior that Amex or others? Can you share why? I read that this card has PP Select for 4 times per year for cardholder and then $32 thereafter.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před rokem +1

I think there may be some confusion here. Let me clarify...
      1. The Bilt Mastercard does not offer a Priority Pass membership.
      2. Not all Priority Pass memberships are equal. In fact, many of them have different access rules.
      3. The Priority Pass cards issued by Amex and Capital One only allow you to use the lounge locations. They *do not* allow you to use the Priority Pass restaurants, spas, or retail locations.
      4. Other Priority Pass cards (like the ones issued by Chase, U.S. Bank, and Bank of America), allow you to use the lounges AND restaurants, spas, & retail locations. That makes them a lot more valuable to some people compared to the Amex or Capital One versions.

Those rent adjacent categories they cover is awesome for points as well, didn’t know that. @@MarkReese - I would be happy to be wrong! I'd definitely start using it for my electric, gas, and water bills. As soon as I saw your video, I started looking into it. I know you can't pay multiple rents. I also know that they have had no problem with paying my whole bill to my apartment, including the utility and parking fees that are wrapped into that bill. (This fits with their "each rental statement can be a bit different" language). My concern is that if I set up individual payments for electric, gas, and water, Bilt will view each as a "rent" payment and consider them violations of their terms. Would love to have some data points on this!
