    Recipe
    1 tsp Linseed oil
    1 TBSP Mineral Oil (Baby Oil)
    2 tsp Beeswax melted (This is a change from the 1 TBSP)
    1 Stick Oil Pastel
    Directions
    Step 1.
    Chop up the oil pastel into very small chunks (Mince)
    Step 2
    Mix in the Mineral Oil and Linseed Oil into the Oil Pastel. Let it stand for at least an hour while mixing occasionally. You can't over mix. You can leave it longer than an hour. I have let it sit for a full day. It won't go bad. If it gets dry, just add a few extra drops of mineral oil. It should look like a liquid paste. Thinner than toothpaste, thicker than water.
    Step 3
    Heat up about an inch of water to a boil. Using the bottom of a tin can (I use a soda can), place the mix into the can and then the can into the water. It will float and create a double boiler. Do not heat the mix directly on a flame. Put the heat down so the mix stays warm to slightly hot. Do not boil the mix. It should not be hot enough to burn you if spilled. This is a project for adults. Children need supervision. Make sure you use adequate ventilation. Do not cook the mix. Melt slowly and gently. Do not leave the pot alone while on the flame. It's no different than making candles. Use all the same precautions.
    Step 4
    Melt down enough beeswax to add 2 tsps to each can. You can remelt and reuse the beeswax. Don't throw out the can.
    Step 5
    Swish it around so it is completely mixed then pour into 1 oz tin pots. Don't lift or move the pot until it's hardened.
    Step 6
    Leave the pot to harden for at least a day. The pigment will get better and better with each day. It will be very waxy and translucent the first day. The final paste is translucent. It's a stain not a paint.
    Tips and Tricks
    1. (New) Melt the wax first then add the melted wax to the pigment container. Mix together while the can is still in the warm water.
    2. If you find your paste is too hard you can warm it in a bowl of hot water before you use it. Hard paste means you didn't add enough oil or you added too much wax.
    3. If you find oil on top of your paste do not remove it. Just rub it back into the container. It won't hurt the paste.
    4. If your paste does not dry 100% once on the paper or you put it on too thick dust lightly with pan pastel colorless blending powder. You can find that on Amazon. It should be less expensive than pan pastels.
    5. If you find the pigment separates away from the wax, the brand of pastel you used is at fault. I like to use Mongyo Gallery. Paul Rubio brand was OK but not as pigmented as the Mongyo Gallery.
    6. When creating black it will appear to have a waxy top. Decrease your wax slightly. Mix well. Black is very hard to make. It will also go on the paper as grey.
    7. You can use water soluble oil pastel.
    8. You can use soft pastel as long as you create a powder and use a muller. Use one stick per container. The powder will have more volume than the oil stick but when you add it to the mineral oil it will shrink down.

    It reminds me a lot of gelato sticks, in terms of application. Except gelatos are water soluble.
    I just love that you've cracked the code to making a similar medium from home! All of your custom colors are so impressive, and it's so kind of you to share it with us so generously instead of selling it at a high markup! ❤🙏
    Edit: colored pencils DO NOT lay down so nicely over gelatos. Most things like pencil and marker are repelled by the gelatos, which is unfortunate bc the pigment is so nice. It seems like you've found the pigment sweet spot without sacrificing layer-ability.
    I'd love to see experiments of how well it layers over other mediums, and how other mediums lay over it.

    I was one of the commenters who mentioned patenting this, and now I'm thinking 🤔 HOW stinkin' cool would that be if Mungyo reaches out to you to collab with this incredible product you made!! Also to note, if say in the future you were to sell these on Etsy or wherever, ohhh man I would absolutely buy them!!! 😊 Much love to you and your amazingly creative brain 💞💞💞

      I'm realizing too now, that this revolutionary product you created is exactly what I had always hoped those silky gel type crayons would be, but none of those ended up being THIS easy and smooth to work with. So then I ventured to the realm of blending backgrounds with ink pads, still ended up frustrated and it's just way too costly! Then I got my 48 set of the Mungyo Gallery and fell in love, but still ran into layering issues (and I admit I never tried colored pencils over them, but I imagine if probably wouldn't work too well unless I sealed it first etc etc.) Long story short, I'm just SO mind blown over how perfectly perfect this creation is. It's genius and you my lady are amazing and I hope you know that!!!

    Hi, Lori, I'm too much of a guy to comment on CZcams, but I have to. I don't consider myself an artist, no formal training other than 6 weeks in 6th grade, mid 70s. I am passionate about drawing though and I draw nearly every weekend. I'm 60 and although I am retired from the military, I still have a full time job, so weekends are my drawing time. Since I don't have any formal art training I rely on CZcams a lot to find out how to draw and color things. I first saw your video on how to do tree bark and now when I want to know how to do something I don't know how to do, Color My World is the first place I look. I've been studying your videos on skin tones, eyes, and lips. When I see your videos, II think, "Finally, someone who knows how to teach art!" There are so many videos out there where artists go in a super fast speed and produce beautiful work, many in real time, but they just have music in the background and don't tell you what they are doing in why. I just wanted to say, you are my first go to when I want to learn how to do something for one of my drawings. Recently, I finished a drawing of a mosaic of what is called "The Gypsy Girl". The original tile mosaic is in a museum in Turkey. First I drew just what is left of the original, about 75% of the original drawing. Then I drew another version of what she might have looked like when she was whole and complete. The drawing of the mosaic turned out okay, could be better, but I don't know how to make it better. I was wondering if I could show you a picture of it and maybe you could point me toward improvements.

    Wow again! I know I said that about the first video, but seeing how to use it really impresses the variety of uses a person could come up with. I'm hoping to work on writing a children's book and making illustrations for it. This will come in handy. While watercolors are great they effect the paper so much that it has certain challenges. These arr vibrant and won't make the paper warp or peel. And the ability to add mica on top is just cool. I really hope I am well enough in the fall or winter when I will have time to work on said project. Thank you so much, I'm excited and love it. Best part is it turns oil pastels into something that can dry.

    I've been a subscriber for a couple of years, but I'm not really a 'chatter' so I don't leave comments very often. But...I MUST say...I made 30 of these from my 72 set of Mungyo oil pastels and it is a-maz-ing!!! I'm a primarily a pencil colorist but sometimes it can be discouraging because of how time-consuming pencil work can be. LOTS of coloring books just can't accept water medium and most water mediums don't provide even, consistent color. THIS is the answer to all my issues!!! I've applied it with my finger, make up sponge applicators and firm paint brushes. ALL methods provide fabulous results. YOU are truly a wonderful person to have shared this information with us! Truth be told...I would have paid $100 or more for a product like this. I'm going to make more base paste with the remaining 42 colors in my Mungyo set. But I'm definitely buying a wax melting hot plate to expedite the process....that water pot thing was brutal! LOL!! Thank you SO MUCH for this. I'm so looking forward to all the wonderful things I can do with this product. Love love love love love this!!! Thank you Lori!!! You are the BEST!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖🥰🥰😍😍🥰🥰

It makes the wax and oil sink into the paper en than the tooth of the paper is normal and the shine is gone. I have been doing this with Vaseline resist and works great.

    I would experiment with different application tools. Such as ink blending tools , the ink blending tools are very versatile and carry over to a bunch of different mediums. Theres the make up brushes that come in assorted shape and sizes, stencil brushes for a textured look, and mini ink blending tool with the detachable foams. Also I think the ink daubers the ones that go on your finger would work very nicely with this stain as well. My first choice would be the finger blending daubers or for a textured look the stencil Shiva brushes used in small circular motions. The make up brushes would give you better coverage in less time and also provide a softer look if that's what you wanted. Also with the make up brushes they allow you to build up your color gradually to where you want it and you can blend other colors or make gradients as well. Lmk if you want the names of the products so you can find them. Each are under 10$.

    Hi. I caught your previous video on this and was intrigued. A few honest questions: With testing consistency and color matching, how much would you estimate this to cost a person until they get used to making their own versions, say per color? How long would you estimate the shelf-life to be without using certain preservatives? And what differentiates this paste from existing materials that can be used in a similar fashion but remain budget friendly? As an artist, I've toiled with many mediums- especially anything that applies color. Which includes creamed and powdered eyeshadows- which use the same pigments. This reminds me of creamed eyeshadows, but I imagine the eyeshadows smell better. Also, what do you think would happen if you added a touch of scent oil? Happy to have found your channel!

    Your a sweetheart. Save money on clear spray. Rust-oleum comes in clear mat, clear gloss, clear simi-gloss, sprays .They're Fast drying , non yellowing, UV resistant. "2x Ultra cover seal and protect. It's so much cheaper! It drys quicker too. The craft sprays are labeled that way to rob you of your money..
    They are not better though. I've been using clear rust-oleum for years. With a heat dryer, it'll be dry in just 30 to 45 sec. Plus this spray doesn't smell half as bad when wet. Remember to apply all sprays outside or in well ventilated areas.

    Three quick questions….
    - What type of paper are you using?
    - Is there ANY bleed-through on inexpensive quality coloring book paper?
    - Why did you change the amount of beeswax from 1 Tbsp down to 2 tsps?
    Gathering my supplies & CAN’T WAIT TO PLAY!!! 😬💕 xo

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      I have used everything from Pastel paper to cheap paper. There is very little bleed though on the cheapest paper. Way less than marker. The beeswax was changed to make it more creamy, brighten the color and it worked much better. The 3 tsp version works but doesn't spread as fast. I am in the middle of a question and answer video. I'll show you all of this. The colors become brighter in time too. Day one will be the least saturated. I have had mine a few weeks and I actually have to tone some of them down. You only need a very small amount on the paper. It becomes very vivid.

    Thanks for the detailed feed back. Since I have Micas, beeswax, and linseed oil in my stock from soaping and lotion formulating, I may as well give it a try.
    For anyone who wants to go by weight instead of volume, I converted to an aproximate of 1tbsp = 10.5 mls/g, and 1 tsp = 5mls/g....
    1 tbsp of Mineral oil = 14 mls/g
    3/4 tbsp of Beeswax = 10.5 mls/g
    1 tsp Linseed oil = 5 mls/g
    I will probably multiply by 8, in order to do six of 30g main pastel colours, or 12 x 15g, and 2 x 25g/ larger size of uncoloured to use with micas and pencils. In the past I have mixed mineral oil and petroleum jelly to use in a similar way to use on pencils and crayons, and micas.

    I kept watching your videos about the base paste and thinking I'd used something just like this. I think I finally figured it out! CHEAP HALLOWEEN CREAM MAKEUP! The crap you can get for $1 per tube and half the colors stain your skin, that garbage.
    If you squirt that out into a small container and let most of the moisture evaporate from it, you're left with something that, from what I can tell, is almost just like your base paste!
    PS; cheap lipstick applies very similarly too, but doesn't have a wide range of colors.

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      Clown makeup is made from cornstarch and other ingrediencies such as Vaseline. This isn't clown makeup and you really should know by 2022 that capitol letters means you are shouting. I am not really familiar with wearing clown makeup nor is my makeup cheap. I usually go to Sephora. They don't sell clown makeup.

    • @cathrinaandrus1777
      @cathrinaandrus1777 Před 2 lety +2

      @@ColorMyWorld I'm sorry if you were upset by my previous comment and misuse of all capital letters instead of proper italics. I was under the impression that, by 2022, it would be a non-issue. I'll do my best to make my following commentary more palatable to you and your standards.
      I mentioned the use of low grade "Halloween" cream makeup because I wanted to share a possible option for those who had expressed interest in your inventive medium and techniques, but are in ways limited in their resources.
      I in no way intended to demean the product that you have spent much time and effort to not only create and refine, but also so graciously share with your viewers. Nor did I mean to equate the price or quality of the cheap cream makeup to your base paste, or to your personal makeup perchases from Sephora.
      The clown makep worn by actual clowns, is commonly referred to as "grease paint" and is made to withstand the movement and sweat of the wearer. I must admit that I too have limited experience with it , as it is generally not recommend for use in theater and special effects makeup.
      If you would like to familiarize yourself with professional grade clown, theatrical, or special effects makeup artistry, I would personally recommend brands Ben Nye and Mehron both due to the quality, variety, and prices of their products.
      However, "NYX sfx creme colour" may be preferable since it can be found at Ulta. Perhaps Sephora carries it too. But be warned, they employ the use of "all caps" liberally!
      I sincerely didn't mean to offend. I was excited about what you had made, and the odd ball experiment of mine it reminded me of. I had stumbled across your videos for the first time today and was also excited about what I could learn to improve my colored pencil work specifically. I just subscribed and I already look forward to trying your revered Holbein white; soft, of course.
      That said, the tone and implications of your reply lead me to wonder what kind of experience I would have in the future should I continue. I will pray for your heart to be softened, that you will not see ill intentions where there are none, nor look down upon others and see them as lesser. ♡
      PS: If you actually took the time to read all of this; good for you!

    Do you know the lightfastness of these? How about longevity of artwork? I do love the idea of this, I'm just wondering who this would be best geared to. Can a professional artists guarantee their work if they use the base paste?

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před rokem

      If the pastel you use is lightfast there is no reason to believe it won't be. In a few weeks I will be coming out with a more professional level base paste that uses pigments instead of pastels. These pigments are lightfast and what people who sell their work use. So far the artwork I created and have hanging has lost none of it's color but it's still only about 8 months old. If you use really cheap pastels (which are known to actually hold their color) you can expect to have the longevity you are looking for just because it's pastel. Like all pastel type products your biggest enemy is dust rather than light. Like all pastel I would use a seal spray made for pastels or put it behind UV glass. It's a drop more expensive, but worth it in the end.
