    Back in the day (as a creative child of the sixties) I used to lick the coloured lead tips as it used to make the colour more intense, nower days (as an adult who has learnt a bit) I shudder to think of the damage I could have done to my health, and all in the name of 'art'

    Heres a good one, if your acrylic paint is thin when you paint it, streaky, transparent, etc; add corn starch and mix on pallet. It turns cheap paint to very pigmented expensive paint.

    *Mod Podge clear iridescent sealer dupe: Auto Zone/Car part stores carry a product called Clear Effex by Duplicolor that is just the same, I'm obsessed with it. It's marketed as a top coat spray paint for cars, looks best over a dark base coat and is quite easy to use to get the same effect by layering thin coats. It's a bit pricey, about $17 a can, but is readily available most times and is amazing.

    Genius hacks! I have the Princeton spotter, it’s is great but make sure you condition the bristles because they fray very easily. Here’s a hack for you: to keep your brushes bristles nice and conditioned, mostly when using acrylics, use a makeup wipe to clean them after rinsing them with water. I stopped having frayed brushes when I started doing that. That globe is amazing it does look like an entire universe is contained in it!

      @@ColorMyWorld I use pink soap and the master’s brush cleaner, but what really stopped my detail brushes from fraying when used on toothy gessoed canvases is the makeup wipes. You rinse your brush in water as you normally would and then you wipe it back to shape on the makeup wipe.

And to keep it from getting frizzy and looking like it has split ends after you wash it put a little Ivory soap on it reshape it with your fingertips and let it dry.

  • @johndough8115
    @johndough8115 Před 2 lety +8

    The triple thick eyes, have an uneven surface reflection, due to Brush Strokes. It would probably be better to apply it similar to the Paint-Dots you showed.. where its more likely to maintain a smoother uniform surface.
    (Thinner Clears can often self-level.. even when applied with a brush.. however, thick clears are not as good at self-leveling, thus causing the uneven surface shapes)
    Another safer idea, would be to make a Frisket Mask, and then spray clear gloss or maybe Triple Thick aerosol spray, onto the eye area from about 10" away, in light mists passes. Possibly applying a few coats... with drying time between coats. This would make a thinner, but glossy eye.. vs.. the above method which would be more of an actual 3D bump / dome shape.
    The pencil thinner trick is cool.. and the Iridescence spray looks awesome.
    I believe they make thick lead-holders and or special mechanical pencils that can hold those thicker colored leads.
    (I think the dollar stores used to sell them, and included a mini-shaperner in the package)
    With a Powered Eraser... one might consider making a make-shift blending stump to insert into the rear. (maybe use a used up fiber marker tip?)
    Or... to use a speed adjustable dremel tool, with either a rubber nib, or one of the other polishing nibs (dense wool, or other hybrid materials. These often come in the accessory kits).
    A standard speed adjustable drill could also be used, if you have a flexible wand extension attachment. They can be adjusted to run at much lower speeds, with much higher torque (strength). They are also much quieter. Though, even the wand will be a bit clumsy / heavy... and if not careful, the flex shaft can coil up, violently moving the drill.
    (if choosing that option, look for the drills that have s small round dial on the trigger, and whos trigger can auto-lock in the On position. The dial spin sets the speed (RPM) )
    Also, dremel tools have different sized Collets, that can hold different shaft thicknesses. Additionally, there are attachments for mini-drill heads... so any size shaft can be locked in place. Meaning, you could also likely use a dremel for inserting those leads.

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +2

      I have a professional dremel, but it would probably be way too much for the fragile leads. I can try and let you know. Leads available to the public are 2.0 or smaller. That's way too small. I happen to have 3.3 from the manufacturer. They aren't available to the public although it may be me that couldn't find it.

    What does the baby powder and glue do to the acrylic paints?

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      It make it puffy so it stands up instead of shrinking flat down on to the object you are painting. Gives texture.

    Hi Lori. I just wondered if you could help me figure out if I need to mix something with water based acrylic paint to be able to use it in Montana refillable art markers to make my own colors of acrylic paint pens. My friend bought me some Deco Art 2 Oz. bottles of acrylic water based paint and I want to use them in refillable paint pens .

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      Here is the problem. The nib for acrylic paint pens is not the same as the marker nibs. The acrylic nibs have the paint flow over this little plastic piece that bops up and down as you prime it. Marker nibs have the ink flow through it. They would glop up and harden if you tried it with the marker nibs. I do use copic ink with the blank marker nibs. Works really well. Go for the bottles and the needle adapter for acrylic.

    This is just me, but I don't trust lists like these because its always items that the person is making a commission on Amazon. Once the vid is over you might see them using a couple of the items but not all of them and then after awhile you don't see them using them at all.

    You just invented “electric colored pencils”! Cool!

      I didn't invent it but I certainly will be using it! I should talk to my friend Andy about making the cores available.

    To get the black iridescent rock, did you coat it with black gesso first? Or is it just the spray?
    You can't get this spray anywhere. :(

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I used black gesso and I know the spray is hard to get. It keeps coming and going from Amazon. The link I provided is the only one that works and not all the time. I checked today and it's out, but just 2 days ago it was in. Blicks had it and may still have it.

      @@Loonit23 Use only 2 coats and let it dry completely in between. All iridescent spray works the same way. After 2 coats it starts to look cloudy. The sparkle comes out more as it dries. Don't judge it wet.

    The low order thinner you used, is that the same thing as Gamosol ?

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think so. I believe Gamsol is mineral spirit. I get the Daler and Rowney at Walmart. It's cheaper than Gamsol and I personally think it works better but that's just my opinion.
