    "Don't ruin it!" is so real. I always hate that stage in my own paintings but invariably whatever happens at that point, even if it feels out of place when it happens, just makes the piece stronger.

    Incredible skills and gorgeous painting. I love how you mix different techniques! I feel inspired to go and create something now. However, I would never think that she is a Greek goddess, if it weren’t for the title and your explanations. She looks more Nordic??? Her features are very far from Greek beauty standards, I feel. What are your thoughts about that? Should we, as artists, try to depict beauty according to standards of cultures that we illustrate, or should we ignore it completely and just draw what we want? This is a very interesting topic for me and I’m curious about your point of view.
    Again, thank you for this peaceful video!

Das ist absolut ärgerlich, deshalb bin ich jetzt bei Acrylfarben gelandet, Gouache hab ich noch nicht getestet, aber wahrscheinlich muß ich bei Portraits wieder auf Öl zurückgreifen. Actually, a question though. For the yellow additions to her face, is it supposed to be the light bouncing off her hair onto her skin? Or is it just a stylistic choice? It looks so good but I wouldn’t know where to start adding those colors before turning my art into a muddy mess 😢

    • @LiobaBrueckner
      @LiobaBrueckner  Před 18 dny

      I just compare imy painting with the reference, I don't think about where the light comes from 😅

    • @ayaneagano6059
      @ayaneagano6059 Před dnem

      I’ll try to give an answer to this as an artist who’s studied lighting-I basically wasn’t able to paint properly until I learned lighting. I literally cannot paint without extensively thinking about lighting-though, that’s because most of my work is done from imagination or with very loose references.
      Those somewhat saturated yellow bits on the edges of the shadows into the light-on the terminators-are called the _light falloff effect._ It’s an effect where the edges of shadows become warmer thanks to subsurface scattering, or the scattering of light beneath the surface of an object.
      In this case, there is blood underneath her skin; although Lioba depicts it as yellow, a reddish or just warm-ish tint on the terminators can be enough to show the subsurface scattering beneath the skin. I would definitely recommend looking the topic up, and definitely watching some of Marco Bucci’s videos on light, shadow, ambient occlusion and shadow colors to really learn more about lighting and how to make things really pop in your painting.
      To get the various colors in the painting, it’s good within light and shadow families (like the light on her skin or the shadowed parts on her skin) to add very subtle, _LOW CONTRAST_ (this it’s important) color variation to it to really make it pop. After that, think about the environment the figure is in. If I were the one painting the figure in the video, in the shadows, I would add subtle blue on certain planes of the figure. This is because ambient light/bounce light (which the subtle blue would be) is more visible in the shadows as the direct light blasts it out in the directly lit areas, making shadows a bit more “colorful” usually. I would add the blue in parts of the shadow became the background is blue, and then perhaps add a little bit of yellow in some shadows to show the hair reflecting off the skin.
      For example, think about a woman in shadow under an umbrella surrounded by a blue sky and a green ground. There, I would make the top planes of the woman lean toward blue (sky) and the bottom planes lean toward green (green ground), and perhaps add a rim light to show that there are areas with direct light hitting it behind her.
      And just like that, you can change the colors in that situation to any other colors and it will work.
      I hope all that helped! 🙌

    beautiful art, I'm confused tho- where did the reference com from? is it your original composition or is this like a study of someone else's original piece?

      It's an Ai generated reference that I re-worked in Photoshop! :)

    Lioba could you tell me why you sign Your piece with pencil? Maybe I’m old school but I just don’t understand why many artist do so?

    I love the painting!
    But ever since I've been learning more about the origins of religion and mythology, I just can't look at all these beautiful people in the same light LOL like the Disney fairy tales, everything we know today is very romanticized. I do like our version better though...history is dark!
