    Love the gun review, but that table cloth looks like it was made in an un-named eastern European village during the cold war. That's what this video should be about. Looks like it took 7 old ladies over 1000 man hours to complete. Not to mention all of the rations they probably had to trade for those fancy beads and sequins...IJS!

    Just buy the 300 blackout barrel conversion kit from Sig for $600 and you can change the caliber by simply removing 2 torx screws and swapping barrels. I have the 556 Rattler and have had issues with the gun on the standard setting sometimes not picking up the next round and holding the bolt back on the last round. If I run the gun on the + setting it eats everything and runs great. Have you experienced that at all?

    Its been tested a million times and you know what they found? They both will go thousands of rounds without cleaning. The dirt has to go somewhere so do you want it in a piston or bolt either way after so many rounds it will stop. But personally, I'd prefer a HB any day over any AR out there. Thanks for the informative and interesting video comparison. I, too, opted for the Rattler in 5.56 due to stock piling that caliber for nearly 2 decades. The 300 BO is tempting because it can be suppressed. I was curious what you felt was your 'sweet spot' in regards to accuracy at your longest effective range? I'm just now beginning to test my Rattler in close-in scenarios. Saw one CZcamsr ringing steel at 100 meters with regularity with about your same setup. I also went with the Romeo 3 high setting. Thanks Johnny. Honestly, since this video, I've pretty much gone 180. Based on a lot of ballistics tests and testimony from people that I consider to be more credible on the subject, I was persuaded that 5.56 would only be effective in immediate proximity (up to 50 yards). I'll never be a willing candidate to stand, even 300 yards away from a shorty 5.56, but I've come to doubt how effective it'd be in comparison to something like a 300BO with similar barrel length.

    Once you set the HB for your preferred subs it runs supers fine. Also that set screw locks the adjustment screw underneath it so it doesn’t back off like most adjustable gas blocks. Downfall of sig is they will drop the product line or make that generation obsolete with no replacement parts available. Ask me how many times I was burned by sig for being a part of their consumer research and development program.

    • @roscoep4850
      @roscoep4850 Před 2 lety +3

      @@EchoDelta2A they both serve different purposes in my opinion. The rattler was specifically designed to be compact and fit in the center console of a SUV. The build and gas system is rugged as hell. It’s a long step from the Sig556 and 556x which were civilian variants of the 512 built with cheaper parts. I have a couple registered sig products I’m stuck with of previous generations and fortunately a couple machine shops will still manufacture the replacement parts I need but Sig is out of the picture. Once those options dry up, I may have a paperweight if I keep abusing them. The honey badger could one day have the same issue but there really isn’t that many proprietary parts for it that can’t be replaced with other viable and easily attainable parts. HB is much lighter and definitely more has more of a sporting, hunting use range. The rattler is about pure hate and offense. Lol. In summary you covered your bases with 2 premium weapons and the 556 chambered option definitely allows the versatility. Don’t ever sell them!!!

    I think you made the right choice by rattler in 5.56. While inefficient barrel and cartridge combo its far more economical. When 300 AAC = $1 per round, and 556 is 1/4th of that - who cares how inefficient it is as long as it is enough to take out targets at the distances you need (this isn't a 300 yd gun!). Even with the short barrel - it is more powerful than 9mm.

    for anyone questioning the ballistics of a 556 out of a 5.5" barrel, at the muzzle, the ballistic is the same as a 16" rifle at 300 yards. the 556 at 5.5" is roughly 1800-2000 depending on ammo, thats plenty to do the work from 150 yard and in, 200yard is pushing it for the rattler in 556. at 200yard it has roughly the same ballistic as as a round being fired from a 16" barrel out to 600 yard.

      Anything less than 2600fps from the 5.56 takes away from its lethality and original design and intention to fragment and sprawl. Ok, having owned both, my personal experience is: the sig in .556 as opposed to the Honey badger is heavier, night and day louder (I called mine the fire breathing dragon even with flash suppressor) people would come up to me at the range wanting to know what the cannon was I was shooting, it was not nearly as comfortable shooting as the HB, largely for those two reasons. Put a can on it and it sounds like the HB with no can. The only reason that anyone imho would choose this is because of ammo cost and availability. But frankly a .556 needs to have at minimum a 12, preferably 16 inch barrel to burn those gases or you will have issues. As far as a pdw goes it’s Honey Badger all day long. Now are there other .300 blk PDW out there? Sure and many are good, (I also own a CMMG banshee, it works well, is it as light and compact as the HB? Not close. ) If you want to reach out and touch someone at 800 to 1000 yards get an 😮8.6 black out if that’s your thing. Heck it will take a bear or lion or Rhino for that matter but you want a CQC or PDW if you will, get the right tool. The Honey Badger is the best tool available for that job IMHO

    So my question is, wouldn’t it make more sense to have an AK pistol? 1. Piston system/reliability 2. Cheap and widely available ammo 3. Better ballistics from 7.62 in a 7-7.5” barrel than 5.56
    Not stating these as facts, seriously wanting input/perspective on this as to why or why not

    • @EchoDelta2A
      @EchoDelta2A  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, it would be. I changed my opinion shortly after this video, but I opted for 300BO, only because of its versatility and selection of ammunition. The only hesitation I'd have with an AK pistol would be the harder recoil from that long stroke piston, along with any limitations you'd have for mounting optics or accessories (depending on what kind of AK pistol we're talking about, obviously).

I foolishly chose 16” on a 300blk upper…never shoot it, but it might it be worth just getting a 7.5-10.5” barrel? I guess to me these are more for fun and I’d rather not pay $.75-1+ per round just to practice with. But to your point 300blk subsonic has big advantages. Thanks for the reply

Yep I should have thought more on barrel length but maybe I’ll just change the barrel out - I also heard 5.56 bcgs work so I could just buy some 7.5-10.5 300 barrels and swap a few 5.56 uppers into 300 possibly? Or maybe the extractors are different??

  • @Rb889

    DI will continue to run until parts failure; carbon, when heated, does function as a primitive lubricant. Suppressed is where you'll run into issues with fouling and heat gumming up any lubrication you have on the BCG. Even so, it will take more ammo than you'll typically carry to do so, and a quick wipe down with oil will suffice for maintenance. DI functions better with a longer barrel/gas system, though it can be made to work with a suppressor quite well with a dedicated setup like what KAC does. The 5.56 Rattler needs specialized ammo to be an effective weapon, which kinda negates the benefit of being compatible with common 5.56, though it will always be more effective than 9mm ball. Still waiting to see gel/barrier testing with M855A1 out of the Rattler... I get the feeling that would still be a fairly effective cartridge. Any experience with a flash can on it? IE, Surefire Warden, or something similar.

    • @EchoDelta2A
      @EchoDelta2A  Před 3 lety

      Even out of a 6" barrel, the best a 9mm could do is 1500fps. Nowhere near 2000 even out an 18" barrel. And, you get more bullet drop with a 9 with a sub 6" barrel, after 100 yards or so. I'd still take any rifle round over a 9mm if I had a choice. It's the reason why guns like the MP7 and P90 were created to begin with. In all honesty, though, the difference in ballistics with the 9 and 5.56 out of a short barreled sub gun would be too close to really argue about.

      Point taken, but it's +P ammo you're talking about, and hollow. Not sure how many sub guns actually can take +P or hollow, but many can't. Not to mention that it's going to be a tall task to find one particular kind of ammo in order to justify that viewpoint. The whole debate is based on ballistics on common ammo, but yes. If I had to choose between 52gr 5.56 ball and your super 9mm ammo, you'd be right. In either case, it's an old video and I've reverted to 300BO based on this very argument.
