I am so glad to see that there are more people out there that will study their own build plans and still mess it up by doing something stupid. I have 8 drawers to build. I am using my Dovetail jig to make them. I studied it and rehearsed it the day before yesterday to make sure I had all my ducks lined up so I won't make any mistakes. Yesterday, I started to route out the Dovetails and only got to drawer #3 when I grabbed a side piece and stuck it in the top where the front/back pieces go. I then routed it with Pins instead of Dovetails. Having no more 1/2 inch wood to cut a replacement side piece from, I now have to cut the ruined end off and replace it by half lapping a new piece of scrap onto it. The great thing about woodworking is that I am learning that there are no mistakes that can't be corrected with a little ingenuity.
This is a really good testimony to Titebond III when you can't break loose a glue joint with a sludge hammer that is only hours old.
I like the color of that outdoor finish you used.
A lot of stain and finish manufacturers recommend just stirring with a stick so not to introduce bubbles into the product that will come out in the finish and especially do not shake it to remix it up.

Stainless means it stains less... not stains never. Lol I learned that recently on CZcams.

LOL. I never saw a woodworking video where the guy screwed up, then had to take a sledge hammer to it, and had to fix other things. Reminds me of myself! Love it. Makes you mortal!
I kept expecting to see a board split when you were swigging the sledgehammer.
I’ve heard many other YT channels state that you can remove the pocket screws after the glue dries because the strength is in the glue.
Well….. YOU proved that is true!!!!!

I think the taller chair could have fit me better. I'd rather have it taller than shorter. Chairs usually aren't the right size for me. But it's beautiful!!!
The chair looks good before the fix, but definitely better after. It's definitely going to slowly replace the Adirondack style that people primarily use for decorating.
I like that you didn't take the time rip the round edge off of every plank prior to assembly. This definitely one of my favorite chair builds. Primarily because these are so much more functional than the adirondike style chairs that so many people faun after. I can still get into and out of this chair after 3 or 4 libations. Something that I know from past experience, isn't so doable with Adirondack style.

I used the plan for this project and I was able to complete the basic assembly in about 4 hours. I was satisfied with the result. However, after watching the video, I noticed that a couple of issues that came up were not corrected on the plans I received. Notably, the height and positioning of the back support were not corrected on the plans I received. I am still positive on the quality and clarity of the instructions provided.

I really like this a lot, in fact, I'm going to give it a shot in the spring. Not much sense in building this living just outside of Chicago, especially with ol' man winter beating on our door. I really liked the fact that you left your mistake in the video, most CZcams creators won't do that.
Another great project and video , my only tip, I put artificial wood on the bottom of legs to keep them off the ground, I got broken boards , scraps, from the box store for zip, cut pieces to match the bottoms of the legs and screwed them on.
With it being a one person chair, womder if you can do the whole seat and back and arms in one by material, and only use tuba fers for the legs?

It seems it needs a half inch rise on the front as stopper for the cushion sliding to the front

Sometimes in woodworking we have to 'adapt and overcome', sometimes you need a bigger hammer to overcome! Nice job brother! Looks good and will be a nice addition to the sectional set you built earlier this year.
Funny thing is I want to make one of these for my dad who's getting a hip replacement and needs a straight back chair and I have to recreate the "mistake" to make the design work for us lol

The stuff that Lowe's sells as framing wood is what they call WhiteWood. I believe it is White Pine but doesn't qualify as SPF. The only Southern yellow pine that I could ever find in Lowe's is a forbafor post that was labeled as such. The only supplier for Southern Yellow in Missouri would be through a real lumber yard and then they would probably have to order it for you. That means that you can't just pick through the stack looking for the pieces that work for you. I think, the last time I was in a Home Depot, I think I remember seeing some wood that was labeled Southern Yellow Pine but would not trust that from a big box store. There are a couple of names with which Southern Yellow is referenced in this part of the country but you would have to look that up. In the Pacific Northwest and California, they have Ponderosa Pine which is a vary close cousin to Southern Yellow Pine with about the same hardness.
Matt could this project be built with 2x4s as opposed to 2x6s? The 2x6s seem to be a bit much. Also, you got to hand it to Titebond. It really says something about the adhesion strength of their glue if you have to use a sledge hammer to separate the material. Anyway, nice simple project. If it weren't snowing right now, I might build a couple of these. Thanks.

I built a version of a rustic outdoor chair myself
Glad to see i am not the only one who errs.
This build would look and feel better if all the round-over edges were ripped off. Everything would then be the same width and chamfering/rounding over would look more professional. This is always my method when using construction lumber.

Thank you for the detailed instructions - this has inspired me to give this a shot! For the seat slats, what's the best way to square the edges of 2x4s or 2x6s if the only tool I have is a circular saw? Would something like a Kreg rip-cut circular saw guide work?
