- This talk is from the 2020 virtual Roguelike Celebration:
roguelike.club/event2020.html
Albert has been working on a roguelike, drawn by the idea of procedural worlds that can surprise their original creators. He has yet to finish, as he's been exploring wonderful worlds others have made.
In this lightning talk he presents shadowcasting field of view, based on a short article he wrote (albertford.com/shadowcasting). He aims to make programming these sorts of algorithms more approachable for new devs, and show off some cool applications of field of view (in general, not specific to this algorithm) to inspire people to find creative ways to use it. - Hry
Great stuff. I know you only had 10 minutes, but I felt like you had put a LOT of time and thought into this. It felt like your speech and slides were optimized for getting the point across.
I'd love to hear you talk about this in more depth. Just the same talk with the same slides, with you taking as much time as you like to go over the nitty gritty.
Very nice and informative presentation! Impressive!
I had no idea one could improve shadowcasting like that. This is quite nice to know. I have to investigate it. Seems promising.
So far I've always been using MRPAS as my preferred FOV algo, which works pretty nicely, but it's also a bit more computationally intensive.
Thanks for the talk, very useful points. I'm weighing up different options for LOS in my roguelike and trying pick the right approach. This vid and the linked article
www.albertford.com/shadowcasting/ are much appreciated.
Is the website still online?
@@robinhorneman2245 the shadowcasting article? Link still works for me
I would love to know more about the use of JPS and FOV for pathfinding!
What's this Jump point with FOV? I can't find anything about it
