Cab Ride Chur-Thusis-St. Moritz (Rhaetian Railway, Albula Line - Switzerland) 4K

- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Chur (585 m) to St. Moritz (1,775 m) in Switzerland, along the Chur -Thusis line, and from there along the Albula line from Thusis (697 m) to St. Moritz (1,775 m). This journey is also the last part of the Glacier Express train ride. You can enjoy this video in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second.
The Albula Railway is a single-track metre gauge railway line forming part of the so-called core network of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB), in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It links Thusis on the Hinterrhein at 697 m and Filisur at 1,080 m with the spa resort of St. Moritz in Engadine at 1,775 m. Between Thusis and Filisur the train passes the Landwasser Viaduct, the most emblematic landmark of the railway line. Then it continues towards Bergün/Bravuogn and to Preda, the last station in the Albula Valley. Between these two villages, the train has to go through many spirals because of the high difference in altitude within a short distance (400 m for 5 km). The route includes six towering viaducts, three spiral tunnels, and two helical tunnels.
Construction of the Albula Railway began in September 1898, the opening took place on 1 July 1903, and the extension to St. Moritz commenced operations on 10 July 1904. With its 55 bridges and 39 tunnels, the 61.67-kilometre-long line is one of the most spectacular narrow-gauge railways in the world. On 7 July 2008, the Albula Railway and the Bernina Railway, which also forms part of the RhB, were jointly recorded in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, under the name Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes.
Glacier Express (GEX), known as the “slowest express train in the world” is a direct eight-hour end-to-end connection between the major Swiss mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz. Operated by a joint venture between Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn (MGB) and Rhaetian Bahn (RhB) on the narrow (meter-gauge) railway network in the Swiss central Alps it provides (together with Bernina Express) scenic and exclusive experience.
Chur is the capital of the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The railway station was opened in 1858 and it is the most important railway junction in Graubünden. The station is the terminus of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) standard-gauge main line from Zürich and is also one of the most important stations on the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) meter-gauge network.
St. Moritz is the most elegant holiday resort in Switzerland, It is the southern terminus of the Albula Railway Line and the northern terminus of the Bernina Railway Line from Tirano in Italy.

Probably one of the most beautiful and famous railway lines in the world. Not everyone will be able to watch it live, which is why such films are a real gem.
@Matz32 Exactly. This is one of the reasons why I film those videos. That people around the world could see all that beauty. As you said, not everyone can go and visit those places.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I am looking forward to my first visit to this region during June 2024. Best regards Ian, UK 🇬🇧.
@crompton33022 You are very welcome. I am happy that I could show you, in this video, a bit of the wonderful landscapes that you will visit this year. I wish you a wonderful trip in June.
Vielen Dank!
@ulrichschuz2715 You are welcome. It is a great pleasure to film such a wonderful line.
Apart from the beauty of the scenery, the quality of the railway engineering is, to me, the most impressive feature of this video. I'm very impressed by the sense and practicality of the Swiss people that (a) they understand that a mix of standard gauge, metre gauge and narrow gauge is such a good mix to meet the needs of the people, (b) they can build railways through beautiful areas without destroying the scenery, (c) they allow railways to be built and upgraded and don't succumb to the bullying of the green bullies and, (d) they are still using bridges and tunnels constructed over 100 years ago.
@roadie3124 I agree with you. And because of all this the railway is a very efficient mean of transport and people really use it daily.
Magnifique paysage, et superbe Lignes! Merci.
@pecheuxthomas816 you are welcome.
Eine fantastische Bahnstrecke. Für Bahnliebhaber ein muss. Sehr gerne und mit Vergnügen angeschaut! 😁👍👌
@user-ei3ru5xg2t It is really a wonderful line.
Hi and thank you for the almost complete route of the glacier Express in 4 parts. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊 A very beautiful and spectacular route. A breathtaking scenic and truly masterful route planning and construction executions back then. Best wishes and have a nice weekend. 🙋🏼♂️
@AG-D647 Many thanks to you, I am glad hat you liked the journey, the route is amazing, true winter tale....I wish you nice weekend too.
@@RailRelaxation Yes, winter has a very special charm. 👍🏻
Thank you, Rail Relaxation ! Love from İstanbul !
@atillayesilcimenli315 My pleasure! Greetings to Istambul.
MERAVIGLIOSO ANCHE QUESTO !!! W Rail Relaxation e W le RhB !!!
@paolopetronio8260 Grazie!
Great cab ride.
@mariojsworld Thank you. it was a great journey.
Fantastic video! Truly spectacular! Line often seen from Sankt Moritz, but never in the Chur Sankt Moritz version and especially in winter! The Thusis - Preda route, with its spiral tunnels, deserves to be listed as one of the most beautiful railways in the world! Like the Semmering Line in Austria which you also traveled, I believe that the Rhaetian and Matterhorn Lines are truly lines with breathtaking landscapes! The Alps are not like this for nothing! The Albula Tunnel as well as the Vereina Tunnel from Davos are incredible tunnels. If you consider that between Switzerland and Austria the Alps are pierced by at least a dozen railway tunnels, built with difficulty in the 19th century, this makes us understand even more the importance of these lines. The arrival in Preda but above all in Sankt Moritz is exhilarating, because the tracks disappear in the snow!
@wladislaw79 Thank you. It was a wonderful journey. The landscape is breathtaking, snow and the alps, Swiss villages on the way....and the structures on the way to overcome the hard alpine terrain are just ....I have no words to explain this. I can not imagine how hard it was back then to build all those tunnels and viaducts. They are really masterpieces. Thank you again for your attention and comments that I enjoy to read. It feels so good to see that someone really enjoys to travel along.
It is listed as a UN world heritage site along with the old Gotthard line that spirals up to Goeschenen.
Salut, une fois nouvelle, quelle belle vidéo ! La Suisse est un si beau pays.
@ishdelville It is true. Greetings
Excellent, magnifiques paysages.
@patrickp8883 Thanks. Interesting observation.
The dual gauge track after leaving Chur is always interesting. Particularly interesting how the standard gauge track switches sides at8:00 i hadn't noticed that before
@AndreiTupolev I find it very interesting too.
@@RailRelaxation Gŕacias feliz miercoles bendiciones
It has to change side to allow for tbe platform on the station. If it stayed on left side, probably cargo on standard-gauge line might hit the platform.

@DavideZerillo Buona giornata. Grazie.
@@RailRelaxation Di niente, figurati.

Thank you for this video and for all.infos given. Very nice cab ride in a splendid winter sunny day. Splendid landscapes seen, some very snowy, others less so, even exposed to the sun, in january it should have.more. Appreciated landscapes seen at 1h15, 1h25 to 1h26.55 and all after the Albula tunnel.I suppose the 3 postal containers seen at 1.29.16 should empties, otherwise I don't understand why they are after the only electric machine.
@javierguidounicaud6621 Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your observations.

@@RailRelaxation very good
@pierogiuliano8167 Grazie, thank you for your comment. I will make the Disentis-Chur video later. Abou the baste tunnels, thank you f or your suggestion, I will se what can I do about it.
Have the loco/driver trailers got new lighting which illuminates the bottom meter of the tunnel walls or have the walls been painted? Not used or seen in the Albula tunnel. Good safety feature over the older high beams which ever is used.
Hello, one day you can board the R2 south line of Rodalies de Catalunya between Sant Vicenç de calders and Barcelona - France station with a train of the UT 450 series?? PD: Good videos and very good channel!!! Greetings from Barcelona
@hectorreyesarriero6408 Thank you for he suggestion. Will put it on my to-do list.

Good morning, if it were possible to write RhB with a lowercase h, as RHB is the acronym of the Rorschach-Heiden-Bergbahn, the only railway with mixed adhesion (natural adhesion and rack) whose trains continue for about a kilometer on the SBB line. Thanks again for your attention
@Luigi-uj5ml Good morning. I was checking in the description, it is written correct there. And then I remembered that it was probably the text in the video that you are referring to. In the video, the inserts that I use can be just in the capital letters. I can not use the lowercase. I apologise for that.
@@RailRelaxation Exactly, I was referring to the text in the video. In any case, thanks again for your collaboration and for your videos, without a doubt the best ever.
@Luigi-uj5ml Thank you.
Good evening, I notice that between the main signal visible at minute 2.48 and the main signal visible at minute 3.45 there is not, unless there is a mistake on my part, a remote warning signal: is this normal in Switzerland? Thanks again for your availability and collaboration
👏👏👏😍👍
@user-pn7br5jn7b Thanks.
Good evening, is there anyone who could explain to me the reason why sometimes even the trains heading to Thusis after Reichenau (a hamlet of the municipality of Tamins) use the railway bridge of the line to Disentis? Thanks again for your cooperation
@Luigi-uj5ml I hope someone else will be able to answer your question. I do not know, sorry.
Good video and all that, but the true highlight was the little birdie at around 1:53:46.

@zahiddizdarevic3485 Thanks for visiting.
PREGUNTA: QUE ES ESE TERCER RIEL ??
@claem1755 There is a dual gauge (three-rail) section for standard-gauge freight traffic from Chur to Domat/Ems for the factory premises of Ems-Chemie and the large sawmill of Mayr-Melnhof Swiss Timber AG and a narrow (one-meter gauge) used by Rhaetian Railway.
