I'm 50, and I mean no disrespect, but it makes makes my heart smile to see all you young folks discover this music!
🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
LOL, same, Im 41, and watching this dude discover music for the 1st time is awesome lol
I'm 57, and I love it!
I'm 52 -- "We had the best music."
They: "Stop the cap!"
We: ** plays Beastie Boys **
They: "Maybe you're not cappin...."
Dude, the music you’re hearing is them playing the instruments and sampling that. They were next level. They never fronted and they never weren’t them selves. They were special. Was so lucky to see them live several times. They came from a punk rock background and loved hip hop and many other genres. A perfect blend of all. Stoked you’re onto them. Keep going. One last thing, they never rapped over their own vocals. Always live and always lit.
That’s talent‼️going down a rabbit hole for sure
They’re known for doing that, but this one’s mostly from a sample of Jimmy Smith’s live jam of the same name
They would also then sample their own songs for new songs in later albums
@@darthmullyThat Jimmy Smith album is amazing. Root Down! Live! It has two versions of Root Down ( and get it ). It’s a classic.
@@domenicgalata1470 BBs have another version of root down too that's straight Nasty, check the "free zone mix" off the root down EP
Beastie Boys were so good, they won a Grammy for an instrumental hip hop album.
That’s insane
@@StaxReacts en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mix-Up The Mix-Up
@@StaxReactsthey started as a punk band playing their own instruments. Check out their Cookie Puss album.
"3 MCs and 1 DJ" is a must.
Bringing it next‼️
@@StaxReacts one take, live. amazing video.
Mix Master Mike is quality, using one deck
100%- making ALL the beats! @@00wrongun
Pure rap, pure talent. That track is a testament to how they always remained true to themselves, had their own style, walked their own path. Also, basement getdowns in the 80’s were some of my fondest memories. There is a reason that other rappers never disrespect them. Pure hip-hop!
Hell yeah, great choice, another banger off this album is "Sure Shot", "Sabotage", "Get it Together ft Q-tip", their producer is Mario C., and their live dj was DJ Hurricane from 86-97 and then the award winning Mixmaster Mike joined and he is a sight to behold, check out their Live in Glasgow 1999 concert that aired live on MTV back in the day, incredible set and performances, and Mixmaster Mike adds a whole layer of entertainment and musicianship to the group.
I’ll be sure to check it out my guy🔥🔥
Oh heck yeah, I love sure shot because it shows their maturity and character growth. Not not mention the sort of James Bond lol was pretty sweet.
Beastie Boys hold a unique place in music. Formed in 1981 with a punk rock background. Also part of early NY hip hop scene. License to ill was the first rap album to make the billboard 200.
I’ll have to react to it🙏🏽
I used to have a CD of their early punk stuff, it gave me a fresh perspective on their rap.
As a B-Boy, I think this is perfection on beat and groove to bust moves to. Amazing tune!
Their live performance in Glasgow is one of the best live performances you'll ever see. Check it out!
I will definitely check it out
@@StaxReacts It's FIRE!
Uprock, sureshot, neva stop da body rock! 🤸
By this point the Beasties were either playing the instruments, sampling their instruments ( literally jamming till they found a sound they thought was a sample ) and usually, before then, much like a lot of the bands from
New York, they were looking at jazz and funk records for samples, that’s why you’re liking the beats so much ! Either out of the norm or original. For straight up rapping old school style, I hope you take a look at 3 mcs and one dj… we were not ready, I am sure you’ll love it !
I defintely get that jazzy feel from the music. Bringing 3 MCS and 1 DJ later today so have on notifications 🙏🏽
There’s a fantastic live performance of SABOTAGE 1994 David Letterman (that was the host of a late night show). They bring the energy and it’s cool seeing them play instruments while rapping. 😅
There’s another live performance that I just found. They do two short songs. And the second has Doug E Fresh beat box’n.

Thank you so much, I’ll for sure react to them soon
Take a look at Paul's Boutique album. It's a piece of art using samples. New stuff for that time.
Bet‼️🙏🏽
F-ING LEGENDS!!!!!!!! Pure hip hop and everything that was good about it.
🔥🔥‼️
Beasties good with samples. I believe the album ‘Paul’s boutique’ has the most samples of any album ever made before and will ever be made again. ❤️🇦🇺
Edit: spelling error
🙏🏽❤️
Beastie Boys are life! There music, from album to album is the definition of, evolution of a band.
Anything from Paul's Boutique!
Ik that’s right
This record epitomises hiphop. Peak Beastie Boys.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The thing is though, that this was in the day of making "albums". If all you had was one single, it would get a listen, but Classic albums were what we all wanted back then. You really should listen to that album because immediately following that funky bit was Sabotage which will blow your brain out. They had instrumentals mixed in to the albums flow. Beasties were on a different level of artistry in their day. RIP MCA
🔥🙏🏽🙏🏽
Beastie boys, rhyming and stealing is an amazing song in their official video is them recording it at a concert, you see how wild they are in that song. If you want to see them, playing their own instruments, which is amazing in itself, the song inspiration is incredible.
🔥🔥🔥🙏🏽
LOVE that you're diggin the Beasties!! Wait til you hear Paul's Boutique!!!! Oyyyyyy....I'm here for it!
Can't wait!
This was way before Mixmaster Mike joined the group and the song is sampled from Jimmy Smith "Root Down". They just replayed four bars of it.
Ahhhhh okayyyy
Back in elementary school, a good friend played a Fat Boys tape followed by a Beastie Boys tape. Their sound was around throughout the '80s and '90s. It's really fun watching you encounter them for the first time.
🔥🔥🙏🏽
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the sample, which is most of the track, is from Jimmy Smith "Root Down." JS was a famous Hammond Organ player who changed the game for organ, it's bad ass, check it out some day. Nice reactions man, thanks.
No one has, thank you for the recommendations and for the support
And the way it goes straight into sabotage is perfect. I know you listen to tracks here and there on your channel, but that ablum is a classic listen start to finish. Seamless. Its just a masterpiece. It blew my mind when it first come out and is still as good today.
So amazing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
That Jimmy Smith Root Down track is so funky that the Beasties didn’t have to chop it up. Could just rhyme over long sections of the song. Reminds me of Hieroglyphics rhyming over Hampton Hawes’ song Web.
Pure talent 🙏🏽
Yeah this is just the looped intro & B section of Jimmy Smith’s “Root Down”. Also a sick record. You hear MCA say “Jimmy Smith is my man, I wanna give ‘im a pound!”
@@DL_Hugely this song and so many others of theirs turned me on to so much music. I got Smith’s Root Down and so many others they sampled or referenced on wax.
They played their own Instruments too.
MCA Bass,
Mike D Drums
Ad Rock Guitar.
Thank you for letting me know that🙏🏽
So happy to see you putting time in with the Beastie Boys! One way I can always sum up the B-Boys is look at the first album, then the next then the next & so on, these guys evolved like no others. From being drunk & becoming rappers, to putting out their own instrumental album where they played all the music, & that instrumental album still gets tons of play at my place, because nothing else comes close to their grooves. I miss them so much, but look how relevant they still are!❤
Yesssss so amazing
3 guys rapping are the same 3 that do all the production.
That’s amazinggg
false. this is a mario c produced record.
2:28 Adam Yauch "MCA" (RIP!), Adam Horovitz "AdRock", Michael Diamond "Mike D"
Keep in mind, these were three jewish white boys coming from a punk rock background, trying to break into the NY rap culture in the early 80s... and they DID IT! They remain a steady mainstay on my playlist SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE they opened up a whole new musical genre to/for me.
🔥🔥🔥
True pioneers & legends....
💯💯‼️🐐
I forgot how much i loved this back in the 90s
🙏🏽🔥🔥
I had the privilege of seeing these 3 guys live, twice. The first time was the Licensed to Ill tour. They did the whole B-Boy hip hop show. The second time was later on when they started getting back to their roots. They did two sets. One was old school B-Boy and then they came out with their instruments. What an incredible legacy. There's never going to be another!
I wish I could’ve seen them live
Yeah! I'm still sad about MCA!😢
Man I could give you a big list of old school hip hop that would keep you busy for s long time! I have stories to go with it all. I met most of the members of the groups from a tour called Fresh Fest. I'm taking Run-DMC, Fat Boys, Newcleus, Whodini, Kurt's Blow... Those were the days bro! I don't like all this murder music and mumble rap. It sucks!
@@StaxReacts see if you can find FLOW SHOW by Sir Mixalot LET THE HOs GO by Naughty By Nature
We were not divided during those times...United by great music.
Facts‼️
Love the beasties. I grew up on this, loved seeing them live. Another lesser known group around the mid 1990s you might wanna look into is the fun lovin’ criminals. The album “come find yourself” is ahead of it’s time as far as a “chill-hop” album, every song sounds like it belongs in a movie soundtrack. Keep doin what you’re doin and I’ll keep watching.
They are so fire🔥🔥🔥thank you for the recommendations and support🙏🏽
I saw them in 1996 in seattle. Awesome show
Great reaction. My favourite Beasties track is called Pass The Mic. The video is on here. Highly recommended for both the song and the video.
Betttttt
MARIO CALDATO JR was their producer! BRAZILIAN GUY! Much respect from brazil 🇧🇷!
🔥🔥🔥LETS GOOO
It is 3 guys. Mike D. (Michael Diamond), Ad-roc (Adam Horowitz), and Adam Yauch. They worked with others, but when anyone thinks of the Beastie Boys they would say the core is this three.
Ahhhh ok thank you 🙏🏽
"Pass The Mic", "Shake Your Rump", "Hey Ladies"
Coming soon, I saw your request
Stax, imagine those of us who were your age when tracks like this, Triumph from Wu-Tang, and Nas' If I ruled the World were hitting. Like, how TF we gonna want to listen to ANYTHING that's produced now?
Amazing
Beastie Boys love from NYC
Thank you brother ❤️
Started as a punk rock band they play all the instruments when you see them love its a mixed batch of punk, rap and r&b with rock
🔥🔥🙏🏽🙏🏽
So watcha want and pass the mic both have that old school feel. So many bangers!
It’s coming trust me
Yep, its the three of them. Kickin it

I'll check it out

One of their last is "Too many rappers" featuring NAS... Worth a watch too...
old school 80s and 90s hip-hop was all about having fun; now it is all about guns and money and being hard guys. an unfortunate evolution. best early hip-hop keystones to focus on: the last poets, kool herc, run dmc, beastie boys, kurtis blow, epmd, eric b and rakim, public enemy, ll cool j, sugarhill gang, grandmaster flash, afrika bambaataa, boogie down productions, a tribe called quest, jungle brothers, de la soul, premier, mobb deep, wu tang clan, jeru the damaja, notorious b.i.g., nas, onyx, etc. the golden era.
Preach ‼️‼️‼️ thank you for all the recommendations

Yes three emcees… Unfortunately, MCA died in 2012. It was a sad day.
RIP MCA🙏🏽
Ill Communication is a SICK album!!!!!!
Yesssss
Hey man, I recently watched both your Beastie Boys reactions and they were both fire.🔥 Beasties are one of the greatest Rap groups ever. Some great choices are: Paul Revere, Pass the Mic, Shake Your Rump, Professor Booty, High Plains Drifter, The Move. There are many more.
Appreciate that a lot, and thank you for the recommendations majority of those are on the list so I’ll bring them soon🙏🏽
was in the crowd when Beastie Boys performed at Big Day Out Auckland, will always be one of my favorite live acts
Wowwww that’s amazing I bet that was an unbelievable experience
I haven’t read the comments on this one, but a heads up that breakdancing was old-school even for this video that was old-school fitting in with the new school, which would’ve been Beastie Boys- back then the Beastie Boys were new school went along with skateboarding new school, skateboarding all sorts of stuff
🙏🏽🔥🔥
Check out 3 MCs and 1 DJ video to get an intimate sense of how they jammed together. Also a masterpiece performance by Mix Master Mike DJ ing

Richie Rich " Lets Ride"
Sir Mix Alot " Posse on Broadway"
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Officially they’re a trio. But in the studio, they frequently collab’d with DJ Hurricane, and later Mix Master Mike, and Mario Caldato aka Mario C on keyboards, and producers The Dust Brothers on the Paul’s Boutique album and more. From about the time of their third album, Check Your Head, they mostly played their own instruments. They were originally a Punk rock band.
Wowww that’s amazing 🙏🏽🔥
Produced by an old white hippie with long hair and beard his name is Rick Rubin Look him up he is a god
Betttt
Yo you need to check the sang CAR THEIF by the beastie boys
I’ll add it to the list for sure
SUGGESTION-Back in the 90's they made a movie called judgement night. Not a bad movie. For the soundtrack they did something a little different. They got a bunch of the top rock bands and rap groups of the 90's together. Every song is a collaboration of rock and rap.

Beastie Boys was the first album i ever bought, License to Ill, so many banger tracks. One of my all time favs was Hey Ladies though, Beastie Boys were shaking up the music videos there whole career and the video for that song was so much fun to see as a teen, and the song was a real anthem. HEY LADIES!! Get Funky! *cowbell* need i say more? Give it a a try as well as 3MCs and 1 DJ, Sabotage and Fight for your Right to Party.

These guys were so good. I'd highly recommend "The New Style" on their channel. It's just audio, but it's fire! 🔥🔥🔥
I'll check it out‼️🔥
You speak of production. Funny thing is that there is little involved. Not like today. No big crews or millions in gear. Just some Macs in a basement. Just raw talent and music.
I could imagine them with todays gear🤧🤧just raw talent as you said‼️
“Root Down” is one of their very best tracks. 👍💜 *Totally bad-ass.*

@@StaxReacts yup, another must! DJ Magic Mike is mind-blowingly good!
If you want to see a great sampling of the range of their versatility and at least a dozen different beat transitions in a single track, check out B-Boy Bouillabaisse from their legendary Paul's Boutique album. The entire album is amazing, but that one track is 12+ minutes of shorter tracks they mixed together into one joint. Stoked you're on this journey though, enjoy!!
I’ll for sure add it to the list
@@StaxReacts And when you're ready, definitely check out the band Tool. I'd suggest starting with "The Pot" and going from there. Also if you haven't done any Metallica, there's another journey for you. A few suggestions for them would be Master of Puppets, One, and Fade to Black. I'm telling you, you'll end up with at least a dozen more reaction videos out of just those two bands, and an excellent intro to the rock side of music.
THIS would be a hit at any time, even today. I am wondering why this is oldschool and so few today fill that "niche" of pure fun art & hot tunes. Every BB-video is musically serious rap, has a positive fun-vibe & totally original in its whole concept. When everybodys "gangsta" nobody wins.. and its boring.
🔥🔥🔥
Sure Shot.
