My interpretation is this is not just about an obsessed fan. This song is reaching out to people (specifically young men) who had bad role models or none at all.
He became an idol for a lot of poor young men with unresolved anger issues and this was his way of saying "don't emulate my slim shady persona, get professional help". I was one of these young boys and only recently have I understood the real message behind this song.
In 20 years, this is the only time I saw someone who actually got the exact meaning and reason for this song. Especially not a lot of Stans. And the haters just miss the whole point.

This is one of those songs that goes way beyond rap. The story, the emotion, the production is just unfathomable. Especially when you consider a young rapper known for shock factor lyrics and being outspoken put this together

The guy on the left is a great long time listener reactioner. No singing or rapping along, no excessive body movements/dancing, no "heres the best part!" build up ruining.. just lets the song flow, only commenting during the chorus (and keeping it short), and giving the spotlight to the first time listener to do a proper reacting. Eminem is a great story teller. And alot of rap artist articulate and have slow beats. I wouldn't throw out the whole genre because "you can't understand what they say". Lol!

Another really good story and a pivotal part of eminem is told through Castle and arose it actually bought a tear to my eye at the end the people that say eminem only talks about killing his girlfriend and mum and cant relate have not listened to his songs theres songs for everyone feeling every emotion in his catalogue

never actually seen the music video for this one. I'm not sure If I want to watch it or not, this song always paints such a vivid picture in my head on every listen.
I've heard (I don't know for sure) that after Em wrote the song, and Dido heard it, she reached out to him to make the video, and plays Stan's girlfriend in the video.
It's about eight minutes long, and it really is like watching a movie. The story of the song is transitioned beautifully.

The censored version leaves out the ending...so much so that reactors completely get the wrong idea about it! They dont understand what really happens at the end! In 2017 ...The term "Stan" was actually added in the Oxford dictionary! Definition: An overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity."! lol. Eminem wrote this song in 2000...22 yrs ago! Since the song was posted on YT in 2009 it has gotten over 500 million views! Was nominated for several awards in the US & Europe! Eminem is a great storyteller!!!

First let me say thank you for not doing the edited version! Also the actor playing Stan is Devon sawa who you might remember from Casper the friendly Ghost or I believe the other movie he was in is called idle hands. He took his own life a long time ago sadly. Also you should check out one of his newer songs called darkness. Skip the first 5 seconds so you don't see the disclaimer because it kind of ruins the surprise.
