  • Due to popular request, I'm showcasing my portfolio that got me into international internships at offices such as OMA and BIG. I'll be explaining what I think made this a successful architecture portfolio, focusing on presentation and layout techniques you can use for your own work.
The portfolio is an edited collection of one's best work intended to showcase one's style or method of work. A portfolio is used to show employers their versatility by showing different samples of current work. Typically, the work reflects an artist's best work or a depth in one specific area of work, namely architecture.

  • @Rhinoch8
    @Rhinoch8 Před 2 lety +3

The coolest things to observe from this portfolio is not the format or the way content is presented - rather, it is the subliminal and subtextual symbols that you convey. By carefully choosing what you want to show, you are crafting a story about yourself.
The pioneers, the alpinist scaling a mountain blizzard, the sense of warmth and comunity around the fire, the mindful zen monk, all at the top of the peaks, in the wind and snow.... Those are some strong emotions you are conveying. It is a bold and beautiful story you are telling about yourself and how you conduct yourself in this world. Beautiful!

Your drawings are amazing. I think that when your drawings and renderings are exceptional there is less of a need for physical models because they do not look as similar to the actual project as a rendering and with today's computational software, we can practically simulate every aspect of the site and model even more accurately than the model

Sounds nice. Not going to BIG, but I enjoyed Architectural Association and classes at Zaha's offices. Zaha and Bjarke both worked with OMA. It seems that since those are only 2 firms in a small demographic of expertise based firms. If people have your skill set, it would be useful. If people have other skills, or opportunities, they should aim for low hanging fruit. Even at BIG or Zaha or OMA, the next question is how long you want to be there and where do you want to go with your career. These questions will take you where you want to go before the effort to enter 1 firm. It's nice, but unless you will be partner, these firms are crowded at the top. The firms that will be leaders tomorrow are kind of small now.
Nice work regardless, and I hope BIG and OMA get lots of cool portfolios(spoiler alert, they get tons) 👌👌

      @@ArchiHacks HI,
I think it would be cool to buil it next to a lake. Because then you have on one side a Landscape with wide view and on the other the "hardness" of the mountain.
For example next to the Gramont. It'a mountain at the frontier between the "Lac Leman" and the Alps.
      www.randos-montblanc.com/moyen/grammont.html
oder next to the Lake of Luzern. there, the mountain are already pretty high.
      www.erlebnisregion-mythen.ch/de/erlebnisse/sommer/weg-der-schweiz/geschichte-zum-weg-der-schweiz/
Or you can built high in the alps. But then you have to think about what happen with the nature. This Bridge will attrack a lot of people which is probably not the best for the nature. But it could be an intersting subject, how to build something in the wild without negativ effect on the nature.

    Hello Bennett,
    Really enjoyed your work.
    I have a question about Page 24-25
I am curious to understand the workflow of the line drawings (sections).
Which file format did you use for these sections to import into InDesign?
I have some similar line drawings, made in AutoCAD > which I exported as PDF > and finished in Adobe Illustrator .
When I place this .ai format file in InDesign document, it looks fine.
But when I export it in PDF, all thin lines gets dark and thick in full screen display!
Also I have checked this same exported PDF in different display.
Lines thickness seems varying across devices ( PC/ iPad/ phone) and OS ( windows/ mac ) and display engine ( browser like chrome etc/ acrobat reader)
I am not to keen to use the drawings in .png format instead of .ai format.
    What do you suggest?
    Thanks

Glad you liked the videos! If you are printing hard copies of your portfolio, I would recommend using the local standard, so for the previous two, I think they were using US-Lettersize 8.5x11" page. I used a little bit less standard method to fit the spread in a 16:9 aspect ratio so that it fills up computer screen. I was applying abroad so screen preview became the priority. 1. Have you done it in A3 landscape?
    2. What fonts did you use?
    3. What can be the lowest visible font size for using in small diagrams ?

    • @ArchieBoldster
      @ArchieBoldster Před 2 lety

It´s neither the page format nor the font nor the size. It´s the overall conceptual idea behind it. A3 landscape is great since it can be easily printed. Font needs to be clean and crisp, I personally use just one font in various sizes. If you can´t read it without glasses and proper lighting or you have residue on your screen or portfolio print out because people bumped their noses on it then, well, it is too small.

It is amazing. Congrats. I wonder which programme you use for doing this portfolio? Indesign or anything else?
Is there a way to make it as a book as in the video in indesign. ?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi there, InDesign is used to make the layouts, and the book format comes from uploading PDF to issuu.com!

Hi, french architecture student over here. I discovered the channel something like two days ago and I'm already a big fan. Thanks for your contribution.
I was wondering though about the format of your portfolio and the few you reviewed in the channel. I'm european so I'm not familiar with these paper dimensions. Could you tell me what it is? In france we mainly use A0 (84,1x118,9) declination, so A4 (21x29,7), A3 (29,7x42), etc
