  • Estrogen cream for the face… it’s been a hot topic online for a while now. So many women are looking for remedies to fix “menopause face” which is when we notice rapid aging in our post-menopausal phase. Many women are experimenting with the use of topical hormone creams - specifically vaginal estrogen cream on their faces. Today we’re going to discuss whether or not using estrogen on the face will actually help you reverse the appearance of estrogen depletion syndrome or if it’s just another passing trend.

    I went on BHRT within six months of entering menopause. I am now 71 and my skin is still plump and glowy and youthful. Of course there are a lot other health and beauty beneficial effects but skin definitely benefits. I also do Tretinon. It’s a double punch to skin aging.

    I’ve used tret since age 16 started it for acne and then continued for anti aging I’m now 46 so 30 years in tret. I had a hysterectomy last year at age 45 I’m on full systemic BHRT estradiol patch testosterone injections and oral micronized progesterone. I use estriol cream on my face every night and my skin at 46 looks better than it did at 18 and I’m in menopause. Loss of estradiol is the number one skin aging component for women if you systemically never let your hormones decline and use a estriol cream in your skincare you literally will not age. Hormones get a bad rap they do not cause cancer

    Thank you so much for explaining the estrogen receptors. I’m in hormone suppressors after having breast cancer removed and radiation. My beautiful skin just started to crepe within a couple of months of starting the suppressors. I’m 60, but had done a great job keeping my skin nice for someone who couldn’t afford injections, etc. I began to also use a dot of topical estrogen on my wrists but it isn’t the vaginal type. It’s a weak estriol, however, it has been remarkable against the crepe skin. I’ve put my body through a lot of changes in the last 2-3 years, losing over 135 lbs, controlling type 2 with diet, the breast cancer thing, etc. It’s truly amazing the way our bodies can adapt.

    Thank you for your videos, I love your channel. II think it is important to note the difference between estradiol and estriol. Estriol is a very weak estrogen and in face creams in used in a very small amount, so it does not go systemic. Estriol does not have any of the side effect you mention.. Also, in all the research I can find, the risks of coagulation and arterial plaques is related to synthetic estrogens (like those in the birth control pill), not bioidentical estradiol and estriol.

    Thank you! I'm looking forward to part 2. I need hormone replacement because my menopausal symptoms are terrible and one of the many things that I see have changed is my skin and hair. But i have used estrogen cream on my face (to be clear it is not ESTRADIOL which is the main hormone lost in menopause but ESTRIOL. It is a weak estrogen). There is a little science but not a huge amount which is what we all deserve. I can say it really does make a difference. My skin is super hydrated, plump and soft. I also use Tretinoin .025. The cream is the only moisturizer i find effective against the flakiness and dryness of Tret.

    Oh My Gosh!!!!👏🏼 thank you so much for this frank and clear explanation of the delivery requirements to get ingredients into the skin!!!! I am now a lifetime devotee to your wisdom. Such a fabulous video. You even mentioned Ehlers Danlos, which I have. My question is if a patient has EDS, do any of the collagen stimulants work? If you already have a problem with collagen production from EDS, is it just a waste of money to use collagen supplements or stimulators?

    Thank you for this incredible information. You are so smart and beautiful. I am currently 50 years old and I’m still in peri menopause and definitely see a difference to my face and I think about how pretty I used to look and never realized it when I was younger however I have decided to accept the aging process and look to my daughter my son and my husband for joy instead of my own face. We will all have to accept getting old and come to the realization that God created the human body this way for a reason. If he wanted us to have estrogen past 55 he would have provided it. I think I’ll leave my health and my aging process in my creator’s hands.

    When talking about estrogen it's important to talk about the 3 kinds of estrogen - estradiol, estrone, and estriol. Estriol (e3) appears to be the safest. I use it just to keep myself with some estrogen after menopause. Here's a quote off the internet...Estriol is considered a weak estrogen as well. It has been postulated that estrone is a “bad” estrogen and may be the cause of estrogen's cancer-causing properties, while estriol is a “good” estrogen and may protect against cancer.... I have been on bioidentical hormones and estradiol is what we are most familiar with.

    Happy Easter Dr.Kappel! I’m 28 and have recently started noticing nasal labial folds and some fine lines under my eyes after losing the last of my baby weight😭 I’m skin type 4. What treatment would you recommend?

    • @DrStefaniKappel
      @DrStefaniKappel  Před 3 měsíci +4

      For the nasolabial folds doing a collagen boosting treatment like Thermage would be my recommendation to tighten the skin and lift up on the folds. I wasn’t much older than you when I did my first collagen banking treatment. I’d do that instead of filler for a more natural looking and longer term plan. As for the eyes, I’d try my MDAiRE ECM Eye serum to address the under eye fine lines of a very light resurfacing laser or under eye Thermage to tighten that skin. I’d avoid a Fraxel or CO2 at this age in you’re a skin type 4 to minimize risk of hyperpigmentation. Hope this helps!

    I have been using a topical estrogen cream made for the face for about one year now. To be honest, I can not tell you that it has made a huge difference (I also use topical Tretinoin as well as bio identical HRT), but I do get my estrogen levels measured somewhat frequently and can at least say that the estrogen face cream I use, which contain 0.3% estriol, has not increased my systemic estrogen levels in any significant way

I was naturally always very youthful looking, no creams needed. Now I am discouraged and trying to find a solution for the shocking changes in my skin ALL over my body! Artificial hormones are not something I am comfortable with because of the potentially dangerous side effects. I have tried Retin-A but my skin is super sensitive, I actually got burns from it, and my skin was always red and hot. I only used 0.05%.
