As someone who started in film way back when it was film, and cameras had to be 'blimped' so you could shoot with sound... The game has changed so many times, I've lost track. Embrace the change and always be at the forefront.
So I wonder about the noise these things create. I'd imagine they will be for foley work only as microphones will always pick up their rotor wash?
I'm a small business owner that has nothing do with the film industry. I have a friend thats a successful photographer that can edit. Would this be a stupid industry to try to break into?
Yeah, man. This thing looks amazing. "There's a touch to it". This has always been my complaint about the consumer grade drones. They just don't have a good feel. Super jealous!
@@bartofilms the microphone would be near the shot being recorded and not from the drone itself. If the sound of the drone does get picked up they can isolate it and remove it.
It’s so, so, so TRUE this statement. Adapt or die. Too many people hold onto the past because of their fear of change making them redundant. Technology & change has opened so many possibilities for future film makers now it’s impossible to say it’s a unionised profession that is ELITE. Just like photography in 2000 when digital changed everything. What was once an elitist form of expression / profession - so has filming in a digital world now become available to a globe of expressive creators. Going by all the very average footage we see from most youtube drone operators, I feel your job is very safe. It’s about so much more than simply flying a drone. It’s about the eye, the attention to detail, about producing the most insane footage. Thanks for sharing - I could watch your drone footage every day.
Most of what you said went wayyyy over my head. But one thing I am sure of: If Batman used a drone, this would be the one!

Thanks for the review Trent. Great job. As a commercial pilot with 2 Inspire 2's, I am excited about how much of an improvement this new version is. It has been long overdue and I am glad it is finally hear.
DJI are just constantly lifting their game. Very impressive. Once they all move to toroidal props they will also be way quieter which will be a game changer for on set work.
The world needs more Trent Palmer videos. At least I do. I didn't understand half of what was said in this, but all these videos are a calming break from the world. Thanks.
This is entertaining to me. RTK has been in use in agriculture for vehicle navigation for decades now. Amazing to see it come to a use case like this as a new application of it!

I've spent my time working on survey crews & using RTK units & I'm blown away that they've been able to incorporate that functionality into this unit.
RTK GPS seems to be a new term for what we called *“Differential GPS”* when I was working at Trimble Navigation. We used it for crop dusting systems. The ground station is simply a fixed reference point that compares its known position with the GPS calculated position and then send the difference as a correction value to the in- flight GPS. This correction is what increases the accuracy.
RTK is sort of an "addon" to DGPS. "Pure" DGPS is comparing the known to the GPS position as you describe, but RTK goes beyond this. A RTK system augments the basic timecode used to determine position as transmitted by the GPS satellites with carrier phase information as seen by the base station. By comparing the phase as seen by the base station with that as seen by the receiver RTK can provide additional accuracy beyond "basic" DGPS. DGPS lets you get down to about 3cm level accuracy, while adding RTK lets you reach 1cm or less.

@@ulsig95 GBAS is one implementation of DGPS that provides a communication infrastructure, some special functions, and a common means of access; to my knowledge, GBAS doesn't include RTK functionality (it doesn't use the carrier phase as part of positioning). Usually, then, an RTK system will provide more accuracy but will require more effort to find and use a compatible base station.

From my point of view the big game changer in cameras was the move from film to digital ,all this new stuff basically builds on the digital revolution. Of course if your job is making films/movies having kit that makes your job easier is a bonus.

Wow this is a really amazing highly technical advancement for the camera drone industry. But only for the truly experienced professionals who knows all the aspects of a machine such as this. Years of experience is required for a flying camera system like this. When needed, I’ll call you for that work.

I've just seen the inspire 3 in person a week ago and the difference between 2 and 3 is huge. Also the controller is finally what it should have been from the begging, a computer with a large screen, and loads of custom buttons just so you set everything up from there. I finally see the need I'm buying the RTK kit for this one, I'd imagine multi day event coverage would be insane to stitch everything together with a simple fade.
That repeatable shot thing is going to be a MASSIVE selling point for real estate videos, but I couldn't help laugh at the vanishing dog at 14:07 :-)
Next level living and experience. I’ve found that life is lived in upward levels of advancement in technology and if one is to stay relevant one has to move along with it. Master this one, and move up to the next.

The reality is the quality coming out of the Inspire 3 is just insanely good. The way the movement feels / looks + recroping, stabilization, tracking (in camera and/or post), composites on routes. You don't need to know anything about all this - you can just look at the quality of the images coming out - the night shots are unreal given the small size on that.
There's absolutely no way I could afford this drone with my current income but I still love it. I'm not even a drone pilot nor a videographer but I used to be a professional photographer and I would be obsessed with learning all I could with this thing. I've watched a few other reviews and it's extremely impressive and it does stuff that I couldn't even comprehend with my lack of knowledge of the TV industry. Love the videos and I hope I get to see more of this beauty in your YT content
Very nice video to watch . DJI INSPIRE 3 is pretty cool drone for aerial cinematography. I am also using DJI Drones for more than 7 years in Indian Film Industry. I started to use DJI Phantom 3 then phantom 4,Inspire 1,Inspire 2 and now very proud to own & operate DJI INSPIRE 3 . I am a DGCA(India Govt) certified Drone Pilot from Kerala/India. Love all DJI PRODUCTS…❤❤❤
That dolly thing is sweet. My skydio 2 does that as well. So much fun.
RTK GPS is wild. I've been custom building a system for multirotor. It's not cheap!

Thanks for a great video mate! With Inspire 3 it might become one man's job. First, you can set your waypoint/3D dolly track and then concentrate on the camera gimbal operation. Am I right?

if I wanted to get into cinema drones after getting my part 107. Where is the best place to get learn more about or best drones to get started with?
In addition to all the benefits you explained I guess (1) its more portable and (2) it's a lot less $$$ than a heavy lift. I use drones in the construction sector (UK) based and have RTK enabled fixed wing (AgEagle Sensefly eBee X) plus 5 other DJI drones. I used to have an Inspire. Whilst some clients may wonder why the drone chap is using a Mavic Mini 3 Pro the ever decreasing size and capability is impressive. I flew 8 construction sites yesterday all in built up areas, 7 with a mini and one with a Mavic 2 Pro. Client got the edited videos a couple of hours ago and is very happy. His H&S Manager also pleased as he likes the smallest drone available to be used to eliminate risk. Have to say though how many times do DJI drones fail, very rare. Next purchases will be a Mavic 3 Pro & Enterprise RTK.
I use rtk on my tractor to get repeatable lines sub inch accuracy it’s really awesome it is satellite tho I am surprised this still uses a base station mine uses a modem and AT&T service subscription
Great job doing a thorough review and reporting on how well this works for your business. Anyone want to buy three Inspire 2’s? Well, not really,..as good as the Inspire 3 is, it does not blow the Inspire 2 out of the water. I will be ordering once they have more batteries.
If you don’t need interchangeable lenses and all the other great Inspire features, Keyframe on Skydio can do the same barn shot. Except it’s 1/15th the price. Would love to show you.
Great informative video, let's hope they update the phantom range next or has the phantom been dropped?
I don't see a lot of need for a new phantom, since the mavic 3 line delivers enough quality, while still getting the super portable benefits that you miss with phantom style drones.
With that said, maybe there is something in the middle between Mavic and Inspire for people like me that would love having a full frame sensor up there but for which the pricing of inspire is just too far away for my business.

Great video on the topic, but you forgot to mention costs?
The RTK and real time aperture control are next level for a platform that size. When you overlay all the images like you described for the hangar build, do you just crop in a little bit and the editing software will align them to remove any variations from image to image?
If you mark the spot where you set the RTK tripod you'll be within a couple of cm if the terrain is the same.
So what would Freefly need to do to the X to make it a go to again?

RTK seems to be much like LAAS at airports for precision like approaches. I would really like to see more videos of you working at your job, but I imagine there are restrictions by the production companies. But, maybe, after the movies or ads come out we could see how you did the shots.

Killer machine - but it's funny - some of those features were in the 3DR Solo from several years ago (3D Dolly, etc) - but of course just flying a GoPro 4.
Egads, a bazillion features! How does anyone keep track of all that?? Just today I tried Adaptive Cruise Control on a loaner car. I had trouble figuring out how to turn it on (no words, just tiny icons I'm supposed to figure out what they mean), but once engaged, it was weird to see it working. Following a car going 5 mph below the speed limit, I was annoyed, but the system didn't care. It just kept its distance and did everything it was supposed to. Technology is so mind-boggling!
They say a poor workman blames his tools, but I say a good workman has good tools. Seeing the results, I'd say you're a pretty good workman.

It's funny - I've used RTK in our stills work for years and it was a total game changer. I actually bailed up a DJI rep at the launch for another drone about 18 months ago and said whatever they are cooking with the I3 they should give it RTK'...said it as a half joke really as DJI seem to keep the 'film' gear and features separate from 'industrial' gear and features. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the I3 had RTK. I'm pumped and can't wait for ours to arrive here in Oz, seemingly the last place on the planet to receive any new DJI release!!!! haha

A Baofeng UV5R. Unless you're licensed and haven't told us, I'd hate to see you get entangled with the FCC too, even at 1 watt and in the middle of nowhere. Those old ones are prone to scatter RF. Just sayin'.
