    The entrenchment rule speaking of non character war machine is there because otherwise we could entrench the Anvil which is War Machine (character). Btw, this also means that the Anvil is immune to Killing Blow.

    Just a thought about slayers, with all the drilled flying about it’s probably quite easy to hide a little Killy unit of slayers behind lines, then using open order get into a flank arm and charge in doing 10 attacks. 65pt unit of slayers not bad. They might also make an annoying conga line unit. Seen as how they can keep challenging and they are unbreakable. 100 points for 5 giant slayers doing 15 attacks out the front is pretty sweet

    5 irondrakes with the torpedo is cheaper and better than a cannon for monster slaying

      Good point, I think both compliment each other but yeah troll hammer torpedos hitting on 2+ is pretty darn sweet.

    Master Rune of Hesitation only negates weapon and special rules when charging. I don't think it negates the boost to initiative innate to charging, for that you'd need both Hesitation and Confusion.
    Hammerers with Strollaz and Confusion to block an entire side of the board sounds delicious though.

      @@BearfootMiniatures i think Confusion will be best on Hammerers against any non-elf armies so you always get to either strike first or at the same time against charging units, not losing attacks on a unit like that os amazing.
      Hesitation is the better rune on any other tho. Knights losing lances and chariots losing impact hits on our shield units is naaasty.
      Also excited about trying Detachment on irondrakes too. Think a small unit of those next to ironbreakers will be good value.

      @@poopitypoopoppopoopI was on the irondrakes detachment train but given that 5 of them with champion and troll hammer is cheaper than a cannon and hits on 2s, I wonder if they will just be gods at monster hunting?
      My theory hammer ranged dwarf army might mostly be rangers and irondrakes

      As weapon, take a Great Weapon with a MR of swiftness and Striking as well as Cleaving. now you have a -3 AP Weapon that also against other WS7 charaktermodels gets an advantage for hitting. And you strike first. you could even hack through opponent units to prevent attacks by utilising step up. thats the king of my dreams XD

      @@Grimmrog master rune of swiftness doesn’t not negate the strike last of the great weapon so with both stoke first and strike last on the weapon you will hit at your normal I as both cancel each other out. Might be worth it but given dwarfs low I I’m not so sure.

    Love the video guys just wanted to point out that items/runes are not hidden information this edition so you won't be able to hide they rune of hesitation in your army.

      @@davidappelbaum1712 Indeed, this is specified on p. 276 of the rulebook "Players should share their muster lists with one another before deployment". Muster lists must contain everything about your army, including magic items.

    Great video! Slight correction at around 46:00 - the Master Rune of Hesitation does not actually deny your opponent the initiative bonus for charging. They only count as not charging with regards to weapons, or any special rules the unit has, and the initiative bonus for charging is neither of those. It's still a great rune though, being able to ignore impact hits and lances is pretty huge against certain armies. The Rune of Confusion, it's worth noting, does deny the initiative bonus, as that is part of a disordered charge. For this reason, it's ideal for Hammerers, who gain an initiative bonus for being charged that will make them strike at I4, ahead of most other units.

    The edge case for Hearth and Home is Terror. Wood Elves can field a Dragon and gear that reduces Ld by 2. Terror, if built for, will be a game changer. Immune to psych will spoil that a lot. Yes, you sacrifice the armour reroll, but your dudes are still there.

      Youre only immune to first test, they stilo reduce youre ldvby 2 if you break from them. Event units with terror have ld reduced by enemy terror

      Ye mate your potentially right (lets see how the meta shakes out but I agree in principle!)
      My group hasnt got a ton of monsters atm, more a bunch of ranked up units, but I know a few are on the paint table!

    if you have points to spare, ally an imperial mage and or a nicely sized unit of inner circle knights. Fixes a couple of missing boxes very well!

    Something you dont be taking into account is that this game is not designed as previous editions with a "gotcha" moment, army lists are not secret a it used to be. So you can not hide where you have your rune of hesitation or any other runic item that could provide your opponent with a nice surprise. Have in mind this also goes for your opponent.

    Dwarf King, great weapon, Shieldbearers, Master Rune of Gomril, Rune of Preservation, and any choice of weapon rune so Ethereal models aren't immune to you. That's how you make a character that will never got into combat.
    On a tangential subject, I don't think your magic items are secret in this edition/game.

    Great vid guys ! Love the breakdown. Ive been putting toether my High Elves and eyeing the dwarves. I think a good army to find alternative models for as well as looking at the GW stuff, its all out of stock atm.

    I dunno I disagree a bit about miners. Yea the opponent can mitigate them but you can also force the enemy to need to be closer to some board edges based upon your own set up and movements. They aren’t a must have unit but hardly as easy to stop as was said. They’re only going to be as bad as the tactics employed to make them useful.
    However I do agree you need to have a plan for them otherwise just small unit/s are for use. Just in case they can land a good strike.

      I suppose, i may just be bias as i tend to favour fast armies or counts
      (my chaos are normally entirely mounted/marauder cav) so maybe not the best showings as ive just moved away or been movign forwards away from them when ive played them

    Great video, one point though is that Great Hammers are not the great weapon type and thus cannot have runes in them sadly. A hammerera rune would have to be in their hand weapons

    On flame cannons, do they not cause panic on units they cause casualties on? This was a great way to cause lower leadership armies to run away.

      they dont automatically from what I can see, just based on the damage
      Flaming causes fear in swarms and war beasts and in the flame canon rules in the main rulebook it just fires and does damage

      @@poopitypoopoppopoop m dwarven hearth bleeds but read the book, they are superior they units are so much better it's painful to read. and they have proper missile troops with the glaives/hellfire guns.

      @@Grimmrog I dunno man, looking at it fireglaives has the major issue of ass for range + no quick shot + bs3, and nearly every unit in the book looks stupid expensive. Gonna have to see it in play to develop a proper opinion, but i haven't been impressed with an initial look-over.

    you should try a stack of 16 irondrakes in line with lord runesmith and bsb with 5+ invil and master rune of hesitation , just do some tests alone u'll realise that irondrakes are now the melters of foes.

      So my question regarding rune smiths is why wouldn’t I just take more irondrakes instead?? AB is good but that is only 1/6 shots. Adding more dudes seems just better. Now, if you want the rune of spell breaking then a rune smith holds value for that alone but 4 irondrakes seems better than 1 rune smith

      @@peterrautenbach1298 yup,runesmiths are useless. why waste 60 points only to give rend2 to 1/6 hits(in practical is around 0,3 rend) when i could just bring more models.
      rune smith have been done useless,he must give 1 rend to the unit AND dispell with +4. only a +3 is useless because we have worse chance than the rival to dispell it but we have the same chance of getting double 1

      @@peterrautenbach1298 because it gives you armor bane 2 so on 6s thats -5 on saves so it can melt anything just try sending 10 chaos knigh chosen at them with lord and stuff , with 1 shooting phase + stand and shoot you can kill more than half the unit

      @@peterrautenbach1298 do the following pack 16 irondrakes ( or more depending on points) trollhammer torpedo , master rune of hesitation , rune smith with shield and 3X spellbreaker rune , lord on shield bearers with great weapon rune of parrying rne of gromril rune of preservation rune of striking ( to hit lords on 3 re roll ) and BSB with gungni banner shield ( you can put ur bsb on bearers also and put parrying rune if you feel you need to protect him , dont put them in the center but on a flank in a single rank and your lord on the flank that's towards the middle of the field and cover the other flank with rangers great weapon

    You mention a few times getting dwarves to move 9" and it has something to do with the Drilled ability. Can you explain that?

      hey mate! So with drilled it allows you to adopt a marching column more frequently (so not all the time but just allows you to drill into a column one turn and drill out the next, and how weve read it charge though I think thats still being debated in the groups maybe?)

    @1:25:50 Lol, wut? Strollaz Rune is a waste of 25 points. How will 3" of pregame movement help? For Dwarfs, the Scouts rule is a better way of getting "Vanguard". Translation, spam Rangers (which are hugely under-costed).

    Master rune of gromril doesnt give you unmodified save, you just cant get IT aby better. You cant switch weapons if you just give ground.

      you can but the redress using half of the units move and being a manouvre I find very limiting (to the point of nor really doing it)

      ​@@jolamberMoving is the second most important phase of the game but the most important part was, is and will ever be the deployment phase before the battle starts. I took many grudging defeats for my errors in the deployment phase because it is harder for Dwarfs to correct this during battle

      Since this vid was filmed (night of day 2 after release I believe) ive changed my opinion on drakes, we should have certainly given them more of a mention:
      Theyre going to be very good when spammed in smaller units but I dont think earth shattering unless your going out of your way to sort of break the list by spamming them (IMO)

    You can declare a charge, but cannot make a charge move in marching column.
    Since you cannot make a charge move, you do not check for charge distance.
    If you can't check charge distance, and you can't make a charge move, it doesn't trigger drilled. For Drilled is triggered by, "just before moving". If you can't check distance and can't move, you don't trigger drilled to redress your ranks, to then back track and check distance to then move.
    Without FAQ, drilled isn't as good as initially thought.

      I know its a bit of a crap answer coming: weve gone off when me and Iain went to TOW release day the playtesters and intro games were doing it that you could charge, being when that unit is selected to move you redress and then can before you come to can you do it
      I recognise a hearsay we spoke to people isnt compelling but thats just what weve gone off

      thats why drilled is such an amazing ability, you can march in the previous turn for the full length and then utilise drilled in the next one to redress and attack. thats why march formation can declare charges because special rules may cause them to redres vefore the charge movement is made.
