The Goblin Hewer was a Dogs of War unit, made by a mad slayer engineer. The real question is where the hell are Long Drong's Slayer Pirates!!!!

As the pirate slayers are formed after their ship was destroyed, probably this happened much more in the future compared to the timeline of tow. So it's pretty fair to don't have them in this period

I think the other special character will be the White Dwarf, gives off huge nostalgia and could move merch by himself
Doom Seekers and the Goblin Hewer are from the Storm of Chaos campaign book which had a Slayer army in it
Credit to Cuebiyari on the Warhammer fantasy subreddit, but the dwarf box is close to 1000pts of which 780 is core and that's without runes and without trying to optimize.

The newfangled relationship to the tech (black powder and gyrocopters etc) was a theme in earlier editions of WFB, so, with Old World being earlier in the timeline, it does make sense.
These dwarf characters are giving me an Asterix and Obelix vibe, especially the wings on the helmet!

Imperial Dwarfs are a curious thing. As far as I can remember all Dwarfs Citadel ever sold as 'Imperial Dwarfs' were nothing to do with The Empire ('of Man'). At that point an Imperial Dwarf was a dwarf who was committed to fighting to re-establish the old Dwarf Empire of the World's Edge Mountains i.e. regiments of Dwarfs that weren't attached to a particular hold and went wherever there was fighting to be done on that front. The models sold as such were mostly a really varied range of Perrys in blister packs, many of which are brilliant sculpts and at least some of which have human equivalents from the same period if you look at old ranges called things like 'fighters' or whatever. The other Dwarfs sold as Imperial were the Dragon Company - also Perrys. At the time pretty much all the Dwarfs you could buy were either these or the Norse Dwarf range (Perry again) plus things like 'adventurers', 'villagers' and so on which were a bit more RPG or perhaps good for a baggage train though some of them were good as warriors. The thing to do was use a mixture of Imperials and Norse for warriors and some of your Imperials as Imperials.
Marauder Dwarfs then came out and were sold just as Dwarfs. And somewhere down the line the notion of 'Imperial Dwarfs' meaning 'Dwarfs living in The Empire' came along. The funny thing is that quite a lot of Marauder Dwarfs look like they belong in The Empire as their clothing fits that aesthetic - the ones with pikes/spears and some of the crossbow-dwarfs really fit the bill. So really if I wanted 'Empire Dwarfs' I would want Marauder ones - very surprised we haven't seen any of these in the rerelease yet - and for 'normal' Dwarfs Imperial ones!
So here you go, the Goblin Hewer rolled to hit like normal with a 48" range. If it hit, the target unit suffered D3 hits per rank, at S4 AP-2.
The Doomseekers were individual slayers with 2 wounds each. In combat, they would hit every model (friend or foe) in base contact automatically, with a S5 hit, then every model in base contact with a model that was just hit, is hit on a 4+. This would happen before everything, including impact hits. Against single model units they caused D3 automatic hits.
And since Malakai Makaisson was shooting the goblin hewer it hit at BS5…

I ran Dogs of War (among others) and still have my Goblin Hewer! I’ve built a Highland Miniatures Dwarf army, and will sprinkle in some old school dwarfs as well!
The Dragon Company and the Big man Cart are the bits that excited me.
It makes sense to find characters for the period TOW is set in from the oldest ranges, as many of these characters were built on in later editions.
Regiments of Renown are a great way to build a body of mercenary units that get rolled together as a Dogs of War book later on.
The chance that Skarloc's Wood Elf Archers might return is exciting enough but there's even a chance that the totally-practical-in-a-forest Wood Elf four horse chariot might return.
Bring back pikes!

The chap on the cart isn't supposed to be Bugman himself - he's just the guy who drives the cart. The Bugman from that era came in a boxed set Regiment of Renown - the same generation of Regiments of Renown as The Dragon Company though in Bugman's case there had also been an earlier pre-slotta version. These were not 'Dogs of War' Regiments of Renown though when those came out maybe ten years later I believe they re-used one of the names (Golgfag's Ogres).
Regiments of Renown like the Dragon Company did come with unit profiles/rules on the back of the box so it's nice to see that alluded to. From a collecting point of view I'm not that keen on these things being rereleased anyway, but it is what it is. The Dragon Company figures have not been difficult to get recently - only really super expensive if you want the full box set - so like Val I was very surprised that the more recent Longbeards and other 90s figures weren't the centrepiece of this preview as they seem to be deemed more desirable or at least are less affordable second hand.
We need a mini of that one dawi in gw basement that's in charge of making the metal miniatures. Anyway I'll make him one, the guy's a hero !

Now, many third party miniature makers are doing dwarfs in the new style, which is very telling. No-knee-dwarfs look bad next to knee-having dwarfs. Really tempted to go Sons of Ymir or Avatars of War for the whole army, to give it a single aesthetic.

2nd, Regarding Plague of Rust: The description states that the ARMOUR VALUE decreases by 2, and “maximum armour value” is in the INDEX. The index told me to turn to page 220, and ARMOUR VALUE is clearly defined there. There is no mention of non-ARMOUR saves like wards and regeneration. Great discussions and questions, guys!
Lots of the magic items in the existing Arcane Journals are useable by the core army, but many are locked only to the Armies of Infamy.
The new dwarf lord makes both models, so you get 5 models total. 3 shieldbearers + 2 lords. You can see the bodies are different, but the arms & heads are interchangeable between the two
Impressed by the plastic Dwarf king, a really artful dynamic mini, i was worried they'd mostly be a bit meat and potatoes and that if they had a mini that good they would have showed it off by now. It's cool they had a plastic mini that good in their back pocket so hopefully more to come. I was a bit worried by the first 4 Armies of Infamy/Rites of War as they seemed somewhat suggest/advocate a particular (boring) vision of the game/armies of infamy as a concept with numerous Soft Touch rules that don't really do much in game but i am Optimistic about the Troll Rite of War, not just to maybe try Trolls but what it suggests about others in the future.
The O&G box is just over 600 points. Dwarf box approaches 700 depending how you kit things out, and if you take the dwarves as rangers, hammerers or longbeards.
There's no Hammerers in the dwarf box though? You could reasonably use Warriors as Longbeards and Quarrelers as Rangers, sure, but you'd need some major kitbashing to use them as Hammerers. I saw a post on Reddit that got the dwarf box to 935pts without any runes and without any attempt to optimize.
I used the old dwarf box and made about 10 Hammerers from it.
Dug out my old storm of chaos book after this.
Goblin hewer was like a d3 hits per rank bolt thrower and doomseekers seemed a lot of fun, like a less random dwarf version of a fanatic.
Cant wait to get my hands on then and get them on the table.
Every AJ has technically had new units, it's just that some have been things like the hybrid skeletons.
The boots on the Thane on Shieldbearer's are actually just a part of the shield and he's strapped into them like ski boots.
I played Dwarfs back in 5th edition, and this box has got me excited! I was thinking of going Tomb Kings or Empire, but I might just have to break out my old Dwarf army as well.

I was particularly excited about that chaos warrior on a monster, AKA the dragon for my WoC sorcerer.
Just picked up the goblin hewer a few weeks ago, as I thought it would not be returning, and always wanted one.
Fun fact about those 2 option dwarf kits: if you print just 20 generic dwarf bodies you can actually build 40 models from a 20 man box, since you got enough extra head and gear (arm) options

Orcs and goblins i was able to play a 1500 point game and my only adding to the battalion was 4 models from underworlds for characters and 1 fanatic.
Around 27 mins I assumed Val was thinking about wrathmongers
Getting fired up for dwarf king on shield bearers and anvil of doom which id never gotten before so it’s good to get a chance now and more plastic gyros as I never got a chance to get them back in the day.

I mean yeah, Slayers are missing and GW never released them in plastic, but what about the Throne of Power? Not only an iconic and awesome model, but surely that’s the other special character?
Dwarfs were a rough army to use back in 6th unless your group never rolled for scenarios. I.e. Dwarfs only excelled when they could sit back and shoot,and even then the games weren’t gimmes. Never getting to pick a combat was some rough business.

The new models look great and the Lord being plastic is awesome. Was expecting it to be resin. My pipe dream is the Dwarf Tank that was never released. If they can release that Bretonnian Lord with the botched face lift they can release the Dawi Tank. 🤞

A set of 5 metal lords? Are they bringing back the two handed axe lord with the winged helmet? I didn't think they'd re-release that.
Regarding the comment that in the arcanes you can only use the items in the armies of infamy: that's not true for brets. About 1/3 of the items are usable in the main army list.
Oh and pro hills in the corners to support my dwarf brothers.

I believe the classic much desired longbeards are Perry designs and legend has it that they have a royalty deal, which may be why we are not getting them.
They're by Colin Dixon (who sadly died recently). The Dragon Company were sculpted by the Perrys and they're being rereleased.

I went through my Dwarves recently and the only thing I set aside to sell to fund more Dwarves were the box of Imperial Dwarves - Ulther's Dragon Company - Cheers GW now I have to use them instead!
You could always use the Dwarves and sell the box to someone who wants to pretend their new ones are the real thing.
so I am wondering. I have preorderd the orcs and gobos arcane journal, and I have not been able to get my hands on anything else old world. do I need the forces of fantasy and ravenous hordes boks? or will the orcs and gobos book be enough, and cover all of my options?
Oooh yes! Currently building an Oldhammer Greenskin army and wasn't too fussed about most of the releases. But these models are making my wallet twitch!!

As someone who recently refreshed his old dwarf army with several Ironbreakers and Hammerers the box looks pretty uninteresting. The new characters on the other hand are all must haves, Youngrim in particular
As much as the Avatar of War wolf riders have been praised last episode, I would say go look their regiment of warriors, rangers, hammerers and slayers. They are fantastic if you like the viking dwarf aesthetic.

According to the forces of fantasy, pretty much every dwarf is on 25mm bases. The war machines and shieldbearers are the only things on larger bases

Question: a lvl 4 wizard is 160 pts. The anvil of doom is 235 pts. A model which can't move counts as a lvl 3 wizard, is somehow 75 pts more than a stronger lvl 4 wizard. Absolutely makes no sense.
I think taking an allied lvl 4 wizard is a must for the dwarfs. Particularly the illusion magic, where you teleport a unit anywhere in 12 inches.
Native magic resistance plus the anvil is at least a start. It also has the benefit of never miscasting. And if I'm playing dwarfs I'd much rather take it than ally in some strange wizard...
a shame that dwarfs are at the botton inntournaments with 40% win rate and this wont change untill they do shooting dont be useless in tow

Rob… the anvil is terrible in game. It’s outclassed by any lvl 4 at both casting and dispelling besides being immobile, costing a ton of points and needing extra protection because of enemy warmachines
